  • Who do you think is in charge of the switchboard.... the majority in the house.

    WAY TO GO REP. MURPHY!

  • @UhDontEatThoseApples It's certainly reassuring to know that Republicans are not stripping working people of their long-held rights. They're merely stripping them of their long-term privileges, what a relief! Rest assured that if enough people buy your argument, the road leading to a fascist corporate state and a low-wage workforce will be smooth sailing indeed.

  • Rep. Murphy keep fighting for average American! Good for you.

  • All I got to say about this bill is the fucking republicans is state are all a retard. I will agree with Pat. 200% these republicans are all a shame and a waste of iowa air....!!!!!!!

  • @imrl391 I would have to say it is you sir that is the true waste of air. Perhaps once your learn to compose a sentence you can come back and intelligently comment on this worthless representative of our part of the State. If you had perhaps spent time in school paying attention rather than being so very busy figuring out how to get and take what is not yours and give it to those who have no desire to earn it you would be able to write something intelligible.

  • i'm from iowa. these republicans are way out of hand. props to rep. murphy!

  • you rock pat murphy.

  • I am told Rep. Murphy is eluding to the Republicans shutting down the switchboard so as to stop communications with his constituents. I guess I'm not seeing this. If Rep. Murphy wants to be more clear and concise, let him make that statement. Otherwise, the only thing I see is a public employee not doing his or her job. Not necessarily a reason to stop collective bargaining, but certainly a reason for taking some power back to minimize the number of inept workers in public positions.

  • @VLZVLZVLZ He obviously wasn't trying to debate, his point was to draw attention to the repugnant and anti-democratic attempts to subvert the legislative process.

  • @lazyconquistador What attempts? A worker not showing up for their post is not subverting the legislative process. A representative, as seen recently in Wisconsin, running away from their sworn duties is subverting the legislative process.

  • @jspahn Having the switchboard abandoned on such an important day was an obvious attempt to ignore constituents voicing their disapproval. Yes, the representatives leaving the state was done to subvert the legislative process. I'm concerned with motives, both scenerios are related to corporatist trying to defund the democratic party dispite the fact that they will be dismantling an institution that has been a champion for the middle-class.

  • @lazyconquistador I had dinner last night with a former Iowa Senator. This Senator (Democrat BTW) told me the switchboard was not manned many times, irregardless of what issues were on the floor at the current time. Sounds more like a typical government job rather than a party attempting to prevent someone from contacting a member of the legislature.

  • @jspahn Well, if that's the case, then why would this legislator fabricate this story just so he could yell about it? People in these positions don't just drop their baskets for no reason. I agree that it is probably not the first time in Iowa history that the state switchboard was unmanned, but on important days this behavior is unacceptable.

  • Ballsy!!!!!! THAT'S a man with principles right there! THANK YOU!

  • Fuck. Powerful.
