@ahlmahl i partly disagree the quattro, rs4, rs6 and the r8 v10 sound great but they are not the best looking. alfa romeos are better looking. my favourite engine notes come from v10's
I love these cars, they were not the best by a long shout but the most powerful by a nose, but why do people keep quoting 660 -700PS - give it up, great engine producing a maximum of 610 PS for Pikes Peak and 575 PS for Portugal 1986, yes this motor did produce 870 PS for practice in a IMSA event in 1989 but never in the S1!
@MrELECTROANDREW Hi, yes, we had a manual 6-speed gearbox inside. The S1 E2 version all were equipped with 6-speed gearboxes. Only few of the 20 bulit S1 E2s had a semi-automatic 6-speed gearbox, this car not.
Unfortunately not the armchair, Drayton Fields in Daventry and occasional visits to Ingolstadt on secondment, great comment though shows your true intelect!
This car was capable of 0-60 between 2.5 and 3.5 seconds dependant on gearing, generally the car was geared for 200km/h with 240km/h available but rarely used, more telling (imo) is 10s run from 0-200km/h

Absolute Spitze, super gefahren. Die Kameraeinstellung suggeriert eine enge Fahrbahn, doch dann überholt er den silbernen Stromlinienwagen (Audi? BMW?...) Toller Sound, kontrollierte Fahrweise. Klasse 5 Zylinder sound!

Da muß anscheined erst mal was passieren,dass der Demuth erkennt das es sich nur um Demo fahren handelt und nicht Zuschauer in Gefahr zu bringen.Irgendwann passiert mit dem noch was.Dem sind die Menschen die einen Meter neben der Strecke stehn anscheinend egal,hauptsache er hat seinen Spass.
Also meiner einer ist sich ja nicht ganz sicher ob der Harald nicht auch im S1 schläft... Ich seh da in seiner Fahrweise kein Problem da ich nicht glaube dass das der absolute Grenzbereich des S1 ist - vor der Kurve stark anbremsen und das Auto leicht ausbrechen zu lassen um sich anschließend durch den Allrad wieder aus der Kurve ziehen zu lassen ist meiner Meinung nach Grundvoraussetzung um überhaupt mit den stark untersteuernden S1 vernünftig um die Kurve zu kommen.
AHH I have missed the gorgeous sound of 5 cylinders at 8200 rpm and 530BHP, worked on this car in 1985 and it was awesome, handled like a dog nothing we could do (engine too far forward) but kept increasing the power, we had 600bhp in the end with Hannu and Walter moaning it had too much power - those were the days!!!
you worked on that god like thing? i envy you! i would never wash my hands again after touching that awesome S1. you`re my hero hehe. want to chat some? i would love to hear some stories from you and your experiences with the car
@paultatters You were working on the almighty S1?!?!?! True respect then! It will always be my top dreamcar :) I heard some moths ago, that there was a mid-engined 900HP prototype of the rally Quattro... is it true?
@paultatters the nose heavy makes it easier to recover the backend from a seemingly impossible slide. Get it sideways, thats how it was done. you needed balls to drive one of these, no fancy mid engine setup here. hahaha!
@paultatters too many people has died unfortunately, so Class B is over. R.I.P for the drivers and co drivers and spectators died in those races. It was pure insane and they had to have the balls for this kind of rockin. But something to learn from them: Go get it son! GO GET IT!
