  • I'm so glad he came back. It's not Conan without Andy

  • Well Andy moved on with Conan to be on the new TBS show, but what happened to their drummer Max Weinberg? Did he decide to stay with Bruce Springsteen?

  • @KaiserJames Yup

  • Plan B.

  • Maybe it would be different if I was in his shoes but I can't understand how someone goes from an a struggling actor just looking to support themselves to Someone whose unhappy with a great gig like late night with Conan O Brien. To call himself Ed McMahon is really selling himself short.

  • Jimmy Kimmel spying on his competition in the front row.

  • It seemed (to me anyway) that it took a while for Andy to get back into the 'groove' as being the Andy (i.e., Conan's "sidekick") we all know and love on the new TBS show.....but it's clear he's now back, and in GREAT form again.

I get the impression that people don't fully appreciate how difficult a job it is to constantly be funny, when you're only able to interject a thought here and there, when stuck down at the far end of the couch.

Kind of like being a good pinch-hitter in baseball...

  • Drink it already!! I'm thirsty now...

  • I never saw it as just Conan - but a comedic duo - Andy and Conan, and most fans will tell you its Andy that gets to have his name come first. When the word slipped out Andy was coming back, I remember fans going ape $h!7. Abbott and Costello, Laurel and Hardy, Beavis and Butthead, Andy and Conan.

they are going to be a part of entertainment history, that future comedians will admire and pay homage to.

  • This interview makes me sad that Andy feels this way and then after 'Andy Richter Controls The Universe' went back to Conan as his fall back. Andy makes me laugh more than anyone else on Conan and he does it with only snippets. He shouldn't see himself as the sidekick but as a part of the show. and for the record I love andy's laugh!

  • Glad hes back and I think he is too.

  • and yet he went back to do the tonight show

  • He is a good actor. He always gets series that belong on cable and not a network though.

  • Andy went no where when he left the late show the only movie I've ever seen him in was scary movie 2

  • O how that net was cut:(

  • to me, you need andy there for it to be labeled a "conan o brien" show, whatever show that may be

  • Ouch, x.x

  • Once you go Conan you never go back.

  • andy, you suck, you kill conans funny mojo.... Go somewhere else, get off the show please. I like watching late night tv because of conan, and ur killing it.

  • @mnypwrrspkt it's true.

  • @mnypwrrspkt i know what you mean. his annoying laugh is enough to turn me off

  • @ThisIsNotPictureTube he has gotten better lately. conan has him on check now.

  • @DungaroosRFun2 They do mention the tonight show tho near the end

  • that's really interesting

  • @CaptWii60 i agree

  • @AlbinoGhandi i agree

  • Looks like Andy fell through every showbiz crack. Two years prior he laughs about it and elueds that he would have to be desperate to return as Conans side-kick -- poor guy is crying these days rather than laughing.

  • he's not funny nor talented enough to be a solo act

    too bad.

  • IT's OvER 9,000!!!!!!!!!

  • Personally, I just don't think Andy is funny enough to be a comedic actor.. but I love him on Conan's shows, I just feel bad that he will always, ALWAYS be Coco's sidekick.

  • @symmylynn /you have clearly never watched Andy Barker P.I. or the Arrested Development episodes with him.

  • @troopertrue I haven't. But what I've seen on Conan's show, i don't think Andy is all that funny..

  • @symmylynn Understandable. He's a much funnier comedic actor than McMahon type person.

  • Andy had the best job in the world. He sat a on couch and got paid for it. Ed McMahon made millions from it

  • well looks like hes back now

  • @Warriorinnkeeper You beat me to the punch. I thought "Andy Barker, P.I." was great.

  • I for one loved his tv shows and think it's lame they weren't given time to find an audience. His P.I. show was awesome and freakin hilarious!

  • It´s 90000 views.

  • haha---Andy crawled back to Coco after he failed in TV / movies

  • He might have been asked to leave by Lorne but he really left to do that show on Fox he mentioned "Andy Richter Controls the Universe." Of coure, it lasted less than a season and he hasn't had much of a career since. And he's not a very good actor, he was great as a late night sidekick but he wanted more. He makes that very clear in this interview. He wasn't pushed out.

  • Is Dr. Katz conducting the interview?

  • andy is a not a good actor. My god...

  • I like him & Conan & all,but he was asked 2 leave by Lorne Michaels back then. Also i bet he didn't "decide" not to take his % of Coco's severance package!

  • @eliizme asked to leave by Lorne Michaels? where do you get that information? just curious

  • @danamon5000 It's not true at all. He left by his choice. Conan and Lorne wanted him to stay.

  • @eliizme yeah please tell us where you got this bullshit info?

  • @eliizme

Not true. Lorne and Conan both tried to get him to stay, but he left to do a short-lived sitcom.

  • @eliizme He wasn't asked to leave by Lorne. Conan got his wish to do the tonight show back in 2004 and he was supposed to finish Late Night in 2009.

  • who picked the screenshot for this anyway?

  • @gherch twas i

  • @gherch he needs a drink

  • @gherch - A National Esquire Photographer - Caption "Andy Goes out in blaze of Glory breaking out a bottle of Tequila and tells Conan to Stuff it on the Air".

  • A little humility could have taken this guy a long way.

  • LOL.. And his career has gone nowhere.

  • Conan's late night show got better after Andy quit. It seemed like Conan was always trying to keep up with Andy while he was there and was never quite himself.

  • Andy and Conan are good together, he's a good sidekick to Conan.

  • Interesting. I wonder what made him change his mind?

  • Andy Richter just isn't funny. I like Conan without him.

  • @spacegeek I wonder if Andy felt a little awkward about leaving and coming back. That could have been why he was kissing up. Plus I can tell you from being on the radio myself sometimes you aren't aware that you're doing something until you play back the tape. I hope Andy joins Conan on TBS and they tear things up! I just hope they don't get too raunchy. I liked what they were doing with the Tonight Show. I thought "Twitter Tracker" was hilarious!

  • I just want to add one thing. Andy and Conan have a chemistry that even Johnny and Ed didn't have. Chemistry like this is rare and we were lucky to get to see it. We might not see it again but I hope we do.

  • At least he left and got to see how hard it is not to have a steady job in Hollywood.

If he stayed he would always wonder "what if?"

In some degree it is sad to see him back as Conan's "side-kick" because we know how he feels deep down about it.

  • @2taggs2 yeah cuz watching the current show on tbs, there are moments where andy gets to put in a zinger or two and you feel awesome for him because he rarely has anything to do besides announcing at the beginning and i could always tell when conan is on the roll and you hear andy in the background trying to respond off of that but conan becomes into it too much that he has no choice but to retreat and it makes me cringe because you never know what brilliant comeback he might've had.....

  • POKEMANS

  • Final Fantasy? Pfffshaw! It's all about Dragon Quest.

  • 7 is by far the best

  • digimon > pokemon. Discuss

  • Andy Ritcher is an interesting person. i'm on a horse.

  • hahahaha, the things that people argue about in comments sections are hilarious!

  • hahaha, how did this become a final fantasy fight? and by the way, the best was 6 or 3 whichever you want to call it

  • True!

  • @hippysasquatch no 7 was!

  • Way back during their stint in New York.

One of the funniest Conan - Andy skits was when Conan had Larry King on, and Larry was taking pot shots at Andy then Andy got up and kicked Larry Kings head off... a manequin that looked like king. OMG I wished Andy could have done that for real. Can't wait to see you guys in Sept..

  • Watching Them on the Tonight show I grew to appreciate Andy and Conan even more. Conan at least let Andy have some funny lines where Ed was never allowed to top Johnny. I thought Andy made a great contribution to the Tonight show.

  • @WFTL14 agreed. his side remarks to conan's or a guest's comments were VERY funny and witty. I really liked skits in which he was involved, as well. great guy. amazing talent. so sad that he hasn't gotten the recognition he deserves.

  • @WFTL14 i agree, especially if you watch the first show June 1st, Andy was not that good, he had a fake laugh and kissed ass, until the next week, they had there old chemistry back. and i liked that Andy better

  • @WFTL14 Yeah, I thought Andy was perfect. He made the show "complete", if that makes sense.

  • If this interview is from 2007, then he's talking about Late Night with Conan, not The Tonight Show

  • If you actually listen to the clip, he talks about The Tonight Show.

  • @DungaroosRFun2

Did you even listen to the clip? The interviewer DOES ask Andy if/when Conan takes over the Tonight Show, would Andy consider going back to join him. Andy flat-out says "No."

  • @DungaroosRFun2 Conan was told he was taking over the Tonight Show and the deal was done on September 27, 2004. Maybe he was referring to not wanting to do it when it came time to switch.

  • @DungaroosRFun2 Towards the end they mention that Conan is in line to get The Tonight Show and ask if he is interested in going back for that. His answer? "No. No." So I'm sure that is what they are talking about.

  • @DungaroosRFun2 He says right in the video that he wouldn't do the Tonight show, obviously his plans didn't work out because he did do the tonight show. Or he was just lying to surprise everyone.

  • @MaxBialystock Being on his own didn't quite work out, he had three shows; Andy Richter Controls the Universe, Quintuplets and Andy Barker P.I. They were all canceled.

  • @DungaroosRFun2 at that point, it was already announced that conan would take over the tonight show.

  • can't this guy just enjoy interviewing, joke'n around and enjoy conversions with the stars, not like anybody gets to do that and get paid for it. but i don't know follow ya dreams Andy. in time they do come true. even if it is for 7 months sheesh, better once then never. for Conan.

  • it didnt look good to watch andy on conans side kick after this

  • ARCTU was a really funny comedy.

Plan B was a bust, thanks to the NBC bumbling suits....wonder what Plan C is gonna be for Andy.....

  • Comment removed

  • Seriously, why the fuck did andy come back then.

  • money

  • I loved Joel Goddard from the Late Show, rather than Andy from the Tonight Show. I miss Joel.

  • i miss joel. :(

  • I think andy's a better comedic actor, than a host. Hes a funnier actor, I loved andy richter controls the universe. Conan's just funny, period.

  • Wow. Sorry, Andy. Not a retirement plan or safety net, my friend.

Conan will get a new gig though and hopefully take his staff and Andy with him.

  • and then Andy Barker PI got cancelled, making it his 3rd cancelled sitcom.

  • he should be on tim and eric

  • D4ni31: Hahaha that would be interesting.

  • i wonder if he's joining conan in his move to whatever network he's going? it'd be kinda nice. i think they're good together.

  • thats jimmy kimmel in a cap behind :P

  • haha that does look like him.

  • well at least andy's real funny than leno.

  • Andy's the man. Extremely underrated in my opinion. And I definitely understand how he feels but to me he's always been a lot more than a sidekick. I never looked at him like he was just Conan's crutch or something. He is just seriously funny. I hope Andy will control the universe someday.

  • @sigurjong i used to always watch conan back in the day just for andy's little quips. i love his quick, dry wit. i was so disappointed when he left and even more when his series didn't take off.

  • Late Night wasn't cancelled.

  • I kinda feel bad for him too.......and that picture of him isnt helping haha

  • Maybe his dream was to drink bacon-flavored vodka on national television.

  • after hearing this... I just feel bad for him... conan at least got a good taste of his dream, he was there for that moment however long it lasted... it seems like andy never got there

  • I would also like to note that his performance in "Big Trouble" was amazing!

  • Andy Richter is Andy Richter. Easily, he couldn't touch Ed. But McMahon could never be Andy.

  • i understand how he feels.

  • So much for the safety net

  • lol plan B it is...looks like he might need a plan C as well

  • fuck you brickman. hope u die in a collapse of bricks

  • brickman must be a leno fan sry that andy and conan are funnier than him wait and see this whole nbc mess will only make them more popular than leno and by the way you suck richter is one of the most underatd comedians out there what r u doing u probably spend ur life playing video games and watching vids on youtube and maybe even live with ur parents or in a run-down apartment and like coolpilot sort of said brickman sucks at least coolpilot is a good name brick means ur probably fat u hipocrit

  • Andy Richter Controls the Universe was an AWESOME show. FOX doesn't know what's good.

  • @vecman86 Well, NBC doesn't know what's good at all! Forcing Conan (and so Andy too) to quit.

  • None of the main networks are good anymore. It's all about cable/satellite channels anyway.

  • Yes. Give me Lifetime or give me death.

  • Hmm, now I notice that all those nasty comments are from JummySmers.

I think the one with the ego problem is the person who is raving about sociopathic(is that a word?) comedians.

But seriously man, I don't know what you have against this guy. You seem, kinda....deranged.

  • Why the hell did he do the show if he proclaimed that he wasn't interested? Maybe it is time to retire, Andy.

  • What are you talking about arrogant? He said it was the best that happened to him! And he's just saying he wanted to be an actor! He's saying he didn't want to be pigeon-hold. Geeze you guys.

  • I agree, I was going to stop the video early but I watched the whole thing to try and see what everyone was talking about and I didn't see it.

Where does he imply he is better than conan? He just said that it was good but he needs to accomplish his own goals and realized that he can't piggy back his whole life.

  • He never said he was better than conan but you could tell he was bitter that he wasn't able to prove to the world he wasn't anything more than a sidekick. that's fair enough, but just the way he was saying it made him seem arrogant. I means seriously andy, its being the sidekick on the TONIGHT SHOW not being the sidekick on last call with carson daly.

  • TEAM CONAN!!!!!

  • You guys are right. This guy is arrogant. I can't believe Conan brought him back if this is his attitude. I wonder if he will follow Conan to Fox.

  • Read between the lines, he's saying, "I didn't want to share the spotlight with Conan, I wanted all of the attention on ME."

What an ego problem this guy has. I've noticed that Conan actually likes Andy much more than Andy has EVER liked him.

  • My God....listen to this....he thinks he's BETTER than Conan.........

    What a massive ego problem.

  • Andy Richter has a big ego, he is not this humble funny fat man that he plays on TV. If you look at him closely in the eyes he looks like a sociopath.

  • fake

  • I bet he regrets saying that he would only do the tonight show if all else fails now

  • even when andy was still with conan on late night i remember guests who were asking andy what the hell his job was on the show in the first place ...

  • He definitely provides the comedic punctuation that Conan needs. Maybe now Andy can get that second wind he needs after his first show.

  • I disagree. The comedic punctuation that Conan needs is awkward silence -- it worked for many years on "Late Night" after Andy left and that's when the show became popular.

  • Though when Andy left, Max filled the void to a degree. Personally, I liked the awkward "tension" between the Conan and Max more than the inane banter Conan and Andy shared.

  • leroyinc you are a douchebag poseur. I bet you think Final Fantasy 7 was the best game in the series too. Don't you? Retard...

  • And lots of people do. That isn't "retarded", it's an opinion. Heaven forbid someone has one that differs from you, right? You should try a new example.

  • @surfingthechaos I loved final fantasy 7 whats wrong with liking it the best

  • @dreyersg Lol, not sure how this FF7 argument got started on this video only saw it and needed to comment. FF7 was my first FF game, since then i have played every one through to completion except 1, and you are right, it is easily the best FF game they have made and everything since has just been an attempt to equal it. They haven't done it yet, or even really come that close.

  • @leroyinc

I agree. I watch more of it after Andy left. Joel Gotter was a better announcer too and made the show feel alive from the opening scene.

  • Andy was so wrong. Poor him :(

  • I liked andy's show Andy Richter Controls the Universe, was good show. Thought he was better away from Conan.

  • I know exactly how Andy feels. In life, sometimes, what you want to do is at odds with what you're actually good at.

  • yeah but he was good at acting and his shows were good but there want any interest for 2 reasons 1 reality shows are destroying tv and 2 he was known as a sidekick well those are my opinions

  • Looks like Andy doesn't have to worry about it anymore, LOL!

  • Andy was actually pretty funny and entertaining when he was on Late Night with Conan. However, the moment he left up until now he's just become an annoying douche.

  • I think that Andy is funny as hell. I love him! Just the face he makes is hilariuous!

  • Andy adds the whimsical side of the tonight show, without him Conan would seem cold and alone. I love Andy will try it! Stop fucking Conan and his crew! NBC's whole team is babies...

  • "But little did he know, that three years later..."

  • he wouldnt eb on the tonight show anymore because of big jaw leno lol

  • Hahahahaha,funny.....NOT

  • Greg hahaha Douche

  • @greg8698 Leno is about as funny as Crib Death.

  • conan and andy rock together

  • Totally agree. You guys need to understand that even if you're fans of Conan and Andy, from a mainstream POV, Andy does not make the show work. He needs to go. Sure, he doesn't want to do the show, but he wants to make money. I'm sorry.

  • so glad Andy's back. it was mildly devastating as a teenager when he left... Conan's great on his own, and so is Andy. but together? magic.

  • man how can anyone hate on andy.

if you're watching conan for a slick leno-esque monologue you're doing it wrong, the funniest moments come from the improvised, genuine comedy between bits. anyone can tell a warmed over paris hilton joke.

  • I think Conan and Andy have awesome chemistry. they are both very clever, very intelligent guys, and their sense of humors seem to feed off each other. At first I wasn't sure about Richter rejoining the Tonight show, but now I wouldn't want it any other way.

  • I don't like Andy on the show. He could be a funny comedian, but on the show it don't work. I think if the show is mainly failing cuz of Andy he should do what is right for his friend and leave the show. It's the truth isn't it? If you know your friend will be out of a job and his show will plummet cuz of you. Wouldn't u quit instead of bringing him down with you? If Andy knows this he should definitely follow through. Unless hes in a binding contract then we're all fucked

  • @statman06 them being friends is fine And I'am even ok with Andy's plan of falling back on Conan's show as a crutch for safety. But if people don't find him funny or don't like what they see, they r entitled to there opinions and ultimately it's up to the people themselves whether or not the show should stay or go. And god forbid that it should go but from what I hear and I'am not going to confirm it but I heard NBC is looking to replace Conan with Jerry Seinfeld as a talk show host.
