@Chameleonard I was referring to the other comment you posted. Gene Roddenberry would have killed Abrams then killed himself if he were alive to see the movie, I agree. But Abrams could have actually thought Star Trek was like TOS and wanted to create a secondary reality.
My teacher once asked me if I liked Star Trek. I was like, "Yeah". Then she said that TOS, TNG, ENT, VOY, and DS9 sucked, and that the new movie is what we should remember Star Trek by.
@LOLBisonStudios A teacher wanting to remember good sci-fi with flashy crap made to appeal to dullards and literally nothing else going for it...also a barely coherent plot? You can tell she loves her job.
@LOLBisonStudios It being an alternate timeline has nothing to do with J.J. Abrams' movies being absurd. I suggest running a diagnostic on the part of your brain that controls logic.
The start of this was good, like a proper new version of the opening. However you didn't put next generation in the title. Also no sign of the ship while the credits roll is bad, i imagine its hard to find footage but still it just looks wrong
Don't stress so much about the JJ Abrams film. It takes place in an alternate continuity caused by the destruction of Romulus in the prime reality. There are plenty of episodes throughout the show to support multiple co-existent universes - the most obvious is TNG "Parallels". The prime reality still exists after the destruction of Romulus.
@hewhosayszonk What you're saying doesn't have anything to do with fans' anger toward J.J. Abrams' interpretation. What they hate about it is that it's nothing like Star Trek. It's lost many things that make it Star Trek.
The 'Spock and Uhura' thing just seemed so wrong. And then there's the Romulans that don't look like Romulans. But the biggest 'd'oh' part was the plot. Really, Nero gets angry at Spock for trying to save Romulus but failing? Wrong, just wrong.
@Chameleonard Being fair, with the whole Spock and Uhura thing, there are a few episodes where they hinted at a hidden romance between the two. They just never actually showed it due to the racial barrier of the time.
@blurookie True, but I've got to say, Abrams really managed to portray Uhura as a skank, and Spock as someone who is far more emotional than he's supposed to be.
In the original series, Uhura's manner of talking etc. was portrayed as playful, insincere flirting. It's a shame it's been degraded to what you see in Star Trek XI.
It's just another thing I hope doesn't stick in people's minds when you talk about Star Trek.
@hewhosayszonk The real issue I have with this is not the concept but the execution. It's like someone wrote it in their lunch break. It is not, in basically any degree, worthy of the Trek legacy. Or to be put on film. Or to be posted on the internet as fanfic.
I don't mind if Star Trek is going to change, but it needs to be a good change; something that has depth to it. Abrams' 'action flick with retarded humor' is nothing like Star Trek.
Just because it was given the same name, doesn't mean it's the same thing.
A pear will never be an apple, no matter how often you call it that.
I don't know why no one pays attention to how truly bad this movie is. I'm like, did we watch the same movie? How can they think this is the best thing ever?
Absurdity? Please! Abrams's Star Trek was loads of fun, and I'll take it over Star Trek 10, Enterprise and Voyager any day. Note: This comes from a rabid fan of TOS and TNG.
Sadly for all the haters, J.J. Abram's Star Trek was arguably one of the best Star Trek movies every made. I rewatched First Contact the other day; utter shit. Even Wrath of Kahn - the Star Trek fanboy's Holy Grail - suffers from piss poor acting and a shoddy story line. You all need to grow up and stop living with your head up your assholes. TAKE OFF THE NOSTALGIA GLASSES FOLKS :)
I liked the old movies, but i do agree that everyone needs to let go of the past. ST is for a new generation and they like this kind of stuff. one old trek watch it on DVD and stay in the past if its so hard to grasp that ST has moved on with the times.
Also, to the "inconsistencies," watch TOS. They were hardly ever consistant of what to call what came to be known as starfleet and the federation until a good chunk of the way into the 2nd season. Roddenberry created the stardate system so as not to set a definite time period for star trek. Some episodes had the 20th century 300 years in the past, others had it as 200 years. Relax and enjoy the movie for what it is.
I personally loved the JJ movie. So what if they didn't get every technical detail 100% "right." The story was good, the characters were dead on, and it was fun.
@dallatorretdu The Galaxy Class Enterprise-D was destroyed in Star Trek Generations, and the Sovereign Class Enterprise-E was built and launched sometime between Generations and First Contact, as Geordi mentions in First Contact that they had been in space nearly a year at that point.
a note to the JJ Haters..it wasn't a restart it was a continuation in an alternate reality...one where things turned out a little...different. Also if anything the JJ Enterprise was a cross between the TOS and Refit, so he honored both and made something a little different.
@moonstarmac Thank you. I just hate how everyone seems so butt hurt about it. If everywhere I go someone wasn't complaining about the newest movie, it wouldn't be as annoying. Purists are just....well I don't even know where to begin. I love old and new alike, and not because of the new movie. I've been a fan of Star Trek since roughly I was born. People need to embrace change, not push it away. Life is all about change. People need to get out of their comfort zone.
@RevanRA Change isn't always good. Not all change should be embraced. Especially when the change yields very little good. Many went into Star Trek 09 with open minds, and what they saw was insulting to fans. Not because it was new, but because it simply used the old as a very shallow nostalgic lens. Played off that. Trek 09 has very little to do with what Star Trek is really about. Beyond the elements of spectacle elements Trek 09 doesn't really have a story to tell. It's shallow popcorn fun.
@OpenMawProductions To you, maybe. You cannot speak for all Star Trek fans. I've been a Star Trek fan for a long time (since I was born). "Insulting"? That's a foolish term. If you thought it was so insulting, just go back to what you love. I embrace new and old alike. While I agree that not all change is good, to me this did feel like Trek. I respect your opinion, but as I said, you cannot speak for everyone. I've talked to some hardcore Trekkies who did love the new movie.
@OpenMawProductions Adding to what I said: It's REALLY hard to please you kind of people. I don't mean that in an offensive way, but it is nonetheless, a bit annoying. Movies and shows were meant for people to enjoy, not to bicker over and complain about inconsistencies. Star Trek has 10x more inconsistencies than Star Wars. I'll bet you anything even if they did keep everything we knew, there would be at least 50 things being nitpicked about it....
@RevanRA I agree howeber Star Wars has had the same writers and production team all through it's run Star Trek has had several/ I'm a Star trek fan but I tend to perfer to think of each generation as it;s own seperate story anyway and if you terat the show that way I think it fits better Enterprise on it's own as is TOS then TNG,DS9 and Voyager all as one
@Ken12741180 I never said it didn't have inconsistencies. EVERY show and movie series known to man has them. I just noticed more with ST than I have SW. Wasn't complaining by any means if that's what it seemed like. :(
@OpenMawProductions Yes, I agree, the main focus for Star Trek overall is the Starship Enterprise exploring those strange new worlds....seeking out new life and new civilizations and to boldly go where no one has gone before. Along with solving those hard questions we must ask ourselves. However, we must not forget that TV shows and movies were meant for entertainment purposes. Enjoy this movie for what it is or don't. I could care less about what's canon and what's not.
@moonstarmac An alternate reality that, by it's very existence, wiped out everything after the point the timeline diverged, which includes everything in all trek except Enterprise. Although I have to admit, the New Bridge is kinda cool...
@SANCTIOND Star Trek isn't the longest standing sci-fi franchise, that goes to Doctor Who (It began in 63 and TOS started around 68-69). But it is the best when it comes to TV shows :D
Next Generation was a Good show. however it was not a Great Show. it's Stories were overlly kepy Weak and Bland. it did have a Great Episode once in a Blue Moon, But they were mostly all talk.
Captain Picard was a Great Character. But he was placed in a Weak and Bland Setting.
Imagine if the Hardened and Experienced Picard had been placed on the USS Voyager when it was Tossed to the Edge of the Milky Way Galaxy and left there for 7 years on Star Trek: Voyager
@kd84afc There's a comic of him getting Data's emotion chip - it reactivates him and effectively revives Data in B4. Eventually becomes captain of the 1701-E
@SeabroMime And which had a much longer continuous run, wheras Trek has been very much on and off, Doctor Who only had a hiatus of about 17 (I think?) years
@KIFulgore I didnt like JJ's film it was all wrong! The engine room looks like water treatment plant, the bridge looks like a hospital or something. The plastic curtains in the shuttles. The Window glass view screens. The bridge was way way way too large.
@SANCTIOND Heh, sorry to say it, but I've been a fan of the series since TOS first aired, and J.J. Abram's 'absurdity' is one of the best I've seen of the star trek related movies. Simply put, fanboy bitching like what you and Fulgore are likely doing over it isn't going to change the fact that your favorite franchise is going to change.
@McDonaldWilliamT i did not mean to dislike your comment i actually agree 100% i thought that the movie was great......its a change of time and the series has to change with it for people to like it
@SANCTIOND while I agree with you fully, I do have to correct you on one thing. TOS ran from 1966. Doctor Who ran from 1963, which makes that the longest running Sci-Fi franchise. I do favor Star Trek, though. :3
It's only a matter of time before a new Trek series will come out. Hopefully along the aspects (that is filming techniques, story arcs, character depth) of SG: Universe. :)
I like he attempt, but there are some things missing. You should have had some more "flybys" because without them, the "whoosh" sound seems like it shouldn't be there. And, at the end, where the engines "speed up", there's no visual effect.
did anyone ever notice that all the naging might had lead to the "death" of Star Trek?
I always saw Enterprise as the beginning with all those flaws people have before establishing something like the Federation. Archer once said, that an organisation is needed to prevent people from stepping over the line.
I don't get it why people always need to complain instead of giving a new series a chance.
If you don't, something like the last star trek movie happens and screws the whole thing up.
The Series of Star Trek Died with Enterprise ( That show stunk)
The Star Trek Movies Besides the exception of the new one died when they made Star Trek Generations god that was a pile of shit. First Contact was okay. Inserection was okay. Nemesis meh.
If they make a new star trek series please dont suck.
@samusaran11 they need to go forword's in the timeline and not go backwords in the time line with star trek but I do wish they could make a new series.
@TheCaut36 I get the odd feeling that neither of you have ever even really watched an episode of Enterprise, It was very careful to stick to cannon while also promoting a new image for the franchise which was desperately needed.
There has been talk of a group of Fan writers coming up with a future timeline of Star Trek that rearranges the show a bit. Unfortunately, it seems very Andromeda like.
I would love to see more of a Sovereign class ship. They look great and they kick ass. If they make a new series, I hope they make it on a flagship, like the enterprise D was, but more advanced. Although I loved Voyager / Intrepid, I prefer giant ships.
i'd love to see a new series too. TOS was great, TNG was great, DS9 was great, and although i personally dont like voyager, i think it was ok for others. ENT was a bit of a dissappointment for me, but i'm sure it was good to bring other ppl closer to star trek. i wish they'd do something like TNG again, only after the dominion war and the borg invasion, u know, with typical exploring and a new species every episode. like TOS or TNG. and i highly suggest having a bald captain again lol
@TheRealityJack Enterprise had a bad start. FIrst 2 series were dissapointing. Series 3 was epic. Series 4 dropped a bit fom S3 but it was still good. TNG was great no argument from me. DS9 was my personal favorite but I heard people saying it was only good for the battle scene's and it kind of was but.. what battle scene's they were! Voyager was a no brainer. They covered the Alpha and Beta quadrents and just finished DS9 with the Gamma Q. It was only comon sense to do a series on the Delta Q.
If only... I would rather it be a whole new crew with something actually new to bring to the table. Like in the 25th century so they can bring fresh ideas for technology, races, politics, etc. If they just rehashed TOS instead of bringing TNG about, the franchise would have never been as successful as it is now
unfortunately Star Trek has had its day, if they could make a new series on the same calibre as TNG then they might be able to revive it... it all depends on the quality of the writing
@thefinalfrontier1701 well so long as its not excessively corny like Voyager and isn't as boring as Enterprise then ill be watching! thanks for the heads up on the new series good sir, gana google search info
@thefinalfrontier1701 can you substantiate that with anything? media report? Don't want to look like an ass, but I have been hurt by rumors of a new show before.... ;-)
and Enterprise was good once they reached season 4 (3 was also good, but just coming up with such a major event out of nothing and the way it was run weren't too good).
And if there is any more time travel or Suliban, I think Roddenberry will rise from his grave!
@ZheGerman When you google it it's the link which says 'David Foster Preparing to Pitch New ‘Star Trek’ Series'. Ferengi would be the big-villains in Series 1.
Hm, found it in the mean time. But the Ferengi thing is a joke, right? They failed to do that in TNG. I heard its the Klingons, again! YAWN! Then again, almost all main villains designed for a new show failed (Ferengi, Jake Sisko, Kazon, Suliban). So the Klingons are the fallback villains. Like in TNG, DS9, ENT....
Did you hear that the new captain will be non other than the (now adult) Wesley Crusher?
@GozersApprentice I think Voyager had that potential, but never quite achieved it. Deep space 9 would have made an interesting premise for a season or two, not 7. Star Trek Enterprise was just stupidly, stupidly badly written.
@SirDanOfHell It certainly had potential sure, it was just full of what i call 'alien clowns' like that bloody Neelix character. It was too lighthearted, kiddish and VERY corny even though the situation they were placed in was a desperate one. It had the odd good episode like when they found that rouge starship Equinox. In the end the only character i liked in it was Tuvok and that was because he was the only guy with his head screwed on. I also like Seven but that is for more obvious reasons :)
@GozersApprentice Voyager DID have quite a few stinker episodes that made me cringe and throw up my hands and say "Are you idiots brain dead?!". It got worse towards the end PLUS there were numerous plot points that they failed to tie up like with Species 8472, Sesparia, what happened to the Kazon Nistrim after they fled Voyager, etc.
@GozersApprentice I think they should stick to the movies for now. "JJ Trek was popular with critics and made lots of money. It was simply over-saturated with TV series and movies at the same time.
@GozersApprentice Sorry but I disagree with you. Star Trek could never survive on TV again, because all people want is sex, violence, partial nudity, adult situations, and more sex! You saw how ST: Enterprise tried to be hip and failed miserably. The environment that TNG and even DS9 and Voyager were successful in no longer exist.
The Winslows aren't learning life lessons anymore at the end of Family Matters. Now its Laquanda getting banged up & people are high fiving her. Family TV is dead.
@lcromy somehow you are right, but STAR TREK was never for the m-Asses... and there are millions of good old STAR TREK geeks out there who would wet their uniforms if there was a new series... me included... quapla!!!
Sorry, even numbered EXCLUDING Nemesis.

About the 2009 star trek... Thing.
To me the truth of the matter is it doesn't hold to the "Spirit" of the series.
Wrath built to the final confrontation with Kahn.
First Contact Built to the final confrontation even if we had action hero Picard.
What I look for in star trek isn't them JUST flying in phasers-a-firing. As nice as the space special effects may have looked.
Star Trek is at its core more dramatic than sheer action.
Exploration and Diplomacy.

So what if they didn't get every technical detail 100% "right." The story was good, the characters were dead on, and it was fun.

someone remember when picard switches his ambassador for the sovereign?
dallatorretdu 3 weeks ago
@dallatorretdu That was not ambassador, that was Galaxy class
Akrablak1 3 weeks ago
@dallatorretdu The Galaxy Class Enterprise-D was destroyed in Star Trek Generations, and the Sovereign Class Enterprise-E was built and launched sometime between Generations and First Contact, as Geordi mentions in First Contact that they had been in space nearly a year at that point.

trekker8342 3 weeks ago
a note to the JJ Haters..it wasn't a restart it was a continuation in an alternate reality...one where things turned out a little...different. Also if anything the JJ Enterprise was a cross between the TOS and Refit, so he honored both and made something a little different.
moonstarmac 4 weeks ago
@moonstarmac Thank you. I just hate how everyone seems so butt hurt about it. If everywhere I go someone wasn't complaining about the newest movie, it wouldn't be as annoying. Purists are just....well I don't even know where to begin. I love old and new alike, and not because of the new movie. I've been a fan of Star Trek since roughly I was born. People need to embrace change, not push it away. Life is all about change. People need to get out of their comfort zone.
RevanRA 3 weeks ago
@RevanRA Change isn't always good. Not all change should be embraced. Especially when the change yields very little good. Many went into Star Trek 09 with open minds, and what they saw was insulting to fans. Not because it was new, but because it simply used the old as a very shallow nostalgic lens. Played off that. Trek 09 has very little to do with what Star Trek is really about. Beyond the elements of spectacle elements Trek 09 doesn't really have a story to tell. It's shallow popcorn fun.
OpenMawProductions 3 weeks ago
@OpenMawProductions To you, maybe. You cannot speak for all Star Trek fans. I've been a Star Trek fan for a long time (since I was born). "Insulting"? That's a foolish term. If you thought it was so insulting, just go back to what you love. I embrace new and old alike. While I agree that not all change is good, to me this did feel like Trek. I respect your opinion, but as I said, you cannot speak for everyone. I've talked to some hardcore Trekkies who did love the new movie.
RevanRA 3 weeks ago
@RevanRA I think comic book guy wrote a complaint to Mr.Abrams about that movie and he said quote: "worst star trek, ever"
xentrix89 2 weeks ago
@OpenMawProductions Adding to what I said: It's REALLY hard to please you kind of people. I don't mean that in an offensive way, but it is nonetheless, a bit annoying. Movies and shows were meant for people to enjoy, not to bicker over and complain about inconsistencies. Star Trek has 10x more inconsistencies than Star Wars. I'll bet you anything even if they did keep everything we knew, there would be at least 50 things being nitpicked about it....
RevanRA 3 weeks ago
@RevanRA I agree howeber Star Wars has had the same writers and production team all through it's run Star Trek has had several/ I'm a Star trek fan but I tend to perfer to think of each generation as it;s own seperate story anyway and if you terat the show that way I think it fits better Enterprise on it's own as is TOS then TNG,DS9 and Voyager all as one
sjsharp2007 2 weeks ago
@sjsharp2007 You do make a fair point. Well said. :)

@RevanRA Star wars has alot of inconsistences Trust me I know I have watched them all over and over.
Ken12741180 2 weeks ago
@Ken12741180 I never said it didn't have inconsistencies. EVERY show and movie series known to man has them. I just noticed more with ST than I have SW. Wasn't complaining by any means if that's what it seemed like. :(
RevanRA 2 weeks ago
@OpenMawProductions Yes, I agree, the main focus for Star Trek overall is the Starship Enterprise exploring those strange new worlds....seeking out new life and new civilizations and to boldly go where no one has gone before. Along with solving those hard questions we must ask ourselves. However, we must not forget that TV shows and movies were meant for entertainment purposes. Enjoy this movie for what it is or don't. I could care less about what's canon and what's not.
RevanRA 3 weeks ago
@moonstarmac An alternate reality that, by it's very existence, wiped out everything after the point the timeline diverged, which includes everything in all trek except Enterprise. Although I have to admit, the New Bridge is kinda cool...

I like he attempt, but there are some things missing. You should have had some more "flybys" because without them, the "whoosh" sound seems like it shouldn't be there. And, at the end, where the engines "speed up", there's no visual effect.
Good visual effect, but it could do better.
jonenat 2 months ago
did anyone ever notice that all the naging might had lead to the "death" of Star Trek?
I always saw Enterprise as the beginning with all those flaws people have before establishing something like the Federation. Archer once said, that an organisation is needed to prevent people from stepping over the line.
I don't get it why people always need to complain instead of giving a new series a chance.
If you don't, something like the last star trek movie happens and screws the whole thing up.

i'd love to see a new series too.
TheRealityJack 7 months ago

ZheGerman 5 months ago
@ZheGerman When you google it it's the link which says 'David Foster Preparing to Pitch New ‘Star Trek’ Series'. Ferengi would be the big-villains in Series 1.
PapercutTwilight 5 months ago
@PapercutTwilight

@GozersApprentice SADFULLY ITS TOO LATE!!!!! star trek sold all there sets so NO MORE TREK DX
bennett1562 5 months ago
@GozersApprentice I think Voyager had that potential, but never quite achieved it. Deep space 9 would have made an interesting premise for a season or two, not 7. Star Trek Enterprise was just stupidly, stupidly badly written.
SirDanOfHell 4 months ago
@SirDanOfHell It certainly had potential sure, it was just full of what i call 'alien clowns' like that bloody Neelix character. It was too lighthearted, kiddish and VERY corny even though the situation they were placed in was a desperate one. It had the odd good episode like when they found that rouge starship Equinox. In the end the only character i liked in it was Tuvok and that was because he was the only guy with his head screwed on. I also like Seven but that is for more obvious reasons :)
GozersApprentice 4 months ago
@GozersApprentice Lols, I think her whole appearance IS the obvious reason ;D
SirDanOfHell 4 months ago
@GozersApprentice Voyager DID have quite a few stinker episodes that made me cringe and throw up my hands and say "Are you idiots brain dead?!". It got worse towards the end PLUS there were numerous plot points that they failed to tie up like with Species 8472, Sesparia, what happened to the Kazon Nistrim after they fled Voyager, etc.
girlgarde 4 months ago

@GozersApprentice Sorry but I disagree with you. Star Trek could never survive on TV again, because all people want is sex, violence, partial nudity, adult situations, and more sex! You saw how ST: Enterprise tried to be hip and failed miserably. The environment that TNG and even DS9 and Voyager were successful in no longer exist.
