  • wasnt roy c (shotgun wedding) in this band/group?

  • The one dislike, didn't hear ANY knocking evidently!

  • that's doo wop. great

  • For all the doo wop fanatics of the Genies, Bill Gaines, passed away this past February in Quebec province, Canada. William McKinley Gaines, was one of the original "Genies." He was 77. If you're a true fan, you remember that Bill bolted from the Genies and left for Canada with a young canadian woman. This is true life, not the fake Eddie and the Cruisers stuff. Anyway, R.I.P Bill.

  • @desoto57firesweepBill (Willliam was the grandpop of my children Roxy & Willy;A TRUE standing BLACK man after what everything life stole away from him;his music, his family;his pregnant WIFE migrate too CANADA.Qc1965s.In 1993 he moved in MTL city he should have been since the 1st come...untill his last breath he hold on so hard & encourage me with his grandchildrens he did 20 years of dialysis, blind (the good news1st black man in QC.,CA to have a Mira dog)RIPMr.Gaines Knocknok!

  • Great song. They're the best. I believe the group is from Orange, NJ?

  • @luckyluie1 No, they were from Long Island, New York.

  • Greatest music ever.

  • Makes me wanna jitterbug and rock out ...can you dig it daddy--O!?

  • This was a one-hit wonder released in 1958. The Genies broke up the following year in 1960. Listening to this song on a vintage jukebox will blow you away. Sensational sound quality -- good production.

  • Oh God, my friends and I were in the car headed to Wild Waves listening to a mix CD and when this came on we all looked at each other and began singing obnoxiously.

  • Great song, real doo wop!

  • Classic. Very subversive.

  • This song used for Kelbris.

    ...Fuck I'm dying.

Now all I can think about is Kelbris doing the shimmy to this.

  • Don't open it...

  • I don't know for sure, but you probably shouldn't have done that.

  • This song brings back memories of my last year in High School. Washington DC class trip. We sang this song to the teachers as they tried to wake us up in the morning to get us out of our hotel rooms.

  • BEN brought me here, but I actually really like this song.

  • Fun song. doowop lives forever.

  • Could it be Mable, Could it be Floooo, got myself in a awlful ditch when I got involve with those 2 chicks. Man he " Nailed " it dead center. LOL

  • One of the Greatest Doo Wop songs, EVER!!

  • I would like to see a cover of this song made by The Beach Boys

  • Im only 14 and I love this 50-60's music

  • I had forgot about this great doo wop and the sax. Heard it on a local oldies station last week and had to just find it on YouTube. Thanks for posting.

  • It's Kelbris.

    DON'T ANSWER IT.

  • "Hang on, someone keeps knocking on my door."

    Famous last words.

  • great oldie from my youth. thanx for the great post.

  • IT'S KELBRIS KNOCKING ON YOUR DOOR, ALL LAST NIGHT AND THE NIGHT BEFORE.

  • The late Claude Johnson (Juan of Don & Juan) was a Genie and his voice is unmistakeable on both "Who's That Knocking" '59 and also on "What's Your Name" '62. Neither Eugene Pitt nor the late Roland Trone (Don of Don & Juan) were true Genies. Eugene was associated and perhaps founded the Genies but never sang with them. Roland never sang with the Genies.

  • This is such a cool song.

Too bad everytime I hear it I'll be paranoid because it's part of the hole BEN deal... And it's got that "overly happy, perfect for a horror movie" vibe to it.

  • That would be Kelbris knocking.

  • You shouldn't have done that...

  • Comment removed

  • AHHHH. BEN really is everywhere, isn't he?

  • @LadyAlzers Of course he is, because we all know about him. Spreading the word about him only spreads him more... The more we fight the stronger he gets... How do you fight something that gets stronger the more you think about it?

  • @JBRewind Stop thinking about it?

  • @LadyAlzers Hard to do... He's gotten quite popular :P

  • @JBRewind Then we are doomed.

  • @LadyAlzers I'm fine either way. If the moon falls down and kills us all, I won't really mind.

I probably would have killed myself a while ago out of pure boredom if it wasn't for BEN...

  • @JBRewind @.@

  • @LadyAlzers *shrugs* Think of me what you will.

  • @JBRewind Ha ha I'm sorry I didn't intend that as an insult. I was just thinking any bad thing that would come about as a result of BEN would be a lot worse than the moon crashing into the Earth.

  • @LadyAlzers I need to find the full lyrics to this song. Hard to understand some parts...

  • @JBRewind I can hardly understand any of it. Besides "Who's that knockin'"

  • @LadyAlzers well, some of the lyrics are that someone was calling his name and threw a brick through his window pane, he thinks it might be Mabel and/or Flo and he got himself in a awful fix when he got mixed up with those two chicks. Maybe that will help when you listen again.

  • Last night and the night before... plus the current night... 3 days... There must be more meaning to this song... I wish he would knock at my door...

  • always reminds me of the film!

  • I think it's ben.

  • absolute classic

  • A GOODIE AND AN OLDIE GOODIE! LOVE THE GENIES!

  • Thank you love!! I love it!!

  • Don and Juan 1959. I heard this song many years ago on radio station KVMR with host Brian Lee.

  • Eugene Pitt! I know you're in there somewhere! At least, that's what I've been told. Before the Jive Five? C'mon Gene, give us the scoop!?

  • I have this record on a 45 (did I read once that Don and Juan [What's Your Name] was also members of the Genies?). I also recall an art movie/sexploitation movie back in the late '60s titled Who's That Knocking On My Door, and the Genies song was featured in the movie. I didn't see the movie, but rather only saw the trailer (preview), and the Genie's song WTKOMD was used (playing) during the trailer.

  • @1royalpalm Song also played in the 1979 film, "The Wanderers."

  • @1royalpalm I Love The Song But The Movie Sucked

  • Absolutely one of the best "rock and roll" recordings ever. Enough said.

  • doowop of finest art , TOP !

  • this song is funny lol

  • I remember when this song was a big hit....

  • Me, too. All the kids on American Bandstand could come up with was, 'It's got a good beat.' That probably didn't help its popularity because it never did break into the 'Top 10'. Still, I love the tune, as you do.

  • I so like this music!!!. Thank you very much!!!: Cheers!!!!; ~Sergio.

  • Gracias mi amigo!

  • GREAT DOO WOP PIECE!!!

  • One of lesser known rock songs but great to listen to just the same. One of those songs one can listen to and just chill out and think about how music used to be. Thank you for the post. Rock N' Roll lives.
