Thanks for giving us access to these wonderful old tunes-I came to you through a link from musicvf.com which has all the american charts back to 1900 and british from 1952 and each song has a link if its on YT-enough for a lifetime of entertainment and research. Please keep putting up songs from your amazing collection.....
I wish we could have gotten a better look at the record label. How odd it is that I recently threw out a 6 year old record player because I couldn't find a stylus for it anywhere, even on the internet, but you can apparently still find needles for 90 year old machines.
Very very nice video. Your gramophone has surprised me! But, ehi folks, dont forget we are listening now a MP3 on web!!! The original is another thing and I am sure the feeling is great listening at horn.
This has a great sound. I notice that a lot of the external horn ones have a tiny sound that is unbearable. I have heard several cabinet style ones that have a great full sound. Do you think most of the external horn ones are going to be high pitched, or is that just the cheap reporductions?
I agree, I'm looking for one two. When I was 11, I had great fascination with gramophoes and wanted one badly. I begged my parents to buy a $100 reproduction but they said no. 7 years later I'm glad they did, I want the real deal. Records have better playback than CD's and old wind up gramophones sure are a site better then those plastic boxes we call CD players.
Yes... When you hear a wind up gramaphone in person, you realize that speakers and digital recordings sound fake, and ruin the sound of old records. Digital may be find for new music, but not the good stuff.
Hi, Sean. Great sound from that wooden horn...and the selection is one of my favorites. Thanks for this video. What a fabulous line-up of players noted in the background. You're right about that "never enough records!" You're 10,00 ahead of me in the 78's department. I tie you on the cylinders. Again, thanks!
Hiya...I have about 35 machines in my house (a chore!) and another 30 or so stored (safely and climate controlled!) elsewhere, I'm a phono-addict. I have about 30,000 78s, 5,000 LPs, about 12,000 45s and 2000 or so cylinders.
Where do you live we had to dump my folks bing crosby, paul whiteman, billie holiday, louis armstrong etc '78's on the dump no one wanted them to buy or or for charity. I thought it was a waste but I couldn't play them. Keep looking and preserving. Go to retirement villages and advertise.Search the internet because once the companies aren't interested either. I 'cleaned' one up electronically it sounded like new!.Good Luck
@Jazzbaby1973 Do you by any chance have Pat Best Someday/Karen lynn on Manor Records? I've been looking for it all-over for 5 years as my 78 copy has been destroyed :(

I'd bet it was the cheap reproductions. I also noticed on them that the turntable wobbles unlike the origional which stay's flat most of the time.

I think your right. The "crap-o-phones" are complete junk. I'm looking for a real gramophone.
