  • So computers on the same network dont have to go to the ip adress in the web page, correct?? if so, how?? thanks

  • @trainz222 You will need to use the webpage. open the browser just as he showed you in the video. type ftp://IP ADDRESS HERE, then press enter. Enter the credentials for access.

  • can i host a runescape private server on a ftp server ?

  • cool, thanks a lot

  • Hi!

    I have a problem.

If i want to visit my server on another computer,

there is Timeout can someone help, please?

  • @arfonicle sounds like a routing issue. Check the router to ensure traffic is able to pass. Check the firewall settings to ensure ports are allowed.

  • Nice tutorial.

  • thank you, you're one of the first people to actually post a useful tutorial.

  • Hi, someone said I should set up a firewall to keep out ALL incoming web connections to the Filezilla FTP server. I only need my other computers on my LAN to connect to the server. But, how do I set up a firewall to stop "only" web, and not LAN? I have Filezilla FTP server running on Ubuntu 10.04 by using Wine. It works ok, but because it is running through Wine on Ubuntu, Filezilla won't "autoload" on re-boot. Anyone have any ideas? I would appreciate them.

  • nice idea.. thx..

  • thanks so much for this tutorial, Got my Home file server up and running now.

  • why is this guys voice so fucking gay?

  • This is okay for a simple file server, but if you want a more secure, multi purpose server, best go with Linux. I run a server on 850MHz PIII that acts as a file server, Minecraft server, and router all in one. This requires some pretty advanced computer skills though. ;)

  • Nice tutorial, is it possible to map the server to a drive letter so that it appear in "My Computer" as a network drive?

  • Thx

  • how would you access files on the server from a computer outside the network?

  • WOW!!!....i cant believe how well made tutorial is this....i mean i see tons of tutorial...but you speak slow....show everything you neeed to know....wow dude we need people like you to make tutorials on youtube =D....congrats 5 stars =)

  • Thanks SO much man, i was looking for a cheap way to do this

  • Brilliant, thanks very much!

  • i dont have a local area connection... how i fix?

  • lol my server is 653 mhz and its running like pentium 4

  • Okay thank you

  • What if you want to create a gaming server or wow server?

  • @NoParkingProduction0 Well setting up a game server is much different than this, I'm afraid. There should be tutorials on it somewhere on the internet, but I think it's agains WoW's terms of use to make or use a private server. ;)

  • linux is better ;)

  • can i use a computer running windows 7 64bit to do this?

  • @puraraza5 yes, sorry for the late response

  • Very good tutorial!

I will get a Server too!

  • Hi, good tutorial. Filezilla ftp server is working, but I need to know how to block ALL web connections. I only want it to allow connections from computers on my home Lan network. Nothing from outside web. How do I do this? Can you make a tutorial showing how to set up this way?

  • @blueuniform911 Personally, I would just use the user and password features. However, that isn't really blocking other connections. There's an IP Binding section where you can list the IP addresses that you want to connect to it... I have not tested this option, but you could try it.

  • @blueuniform911 If you dont forward the port in the router, no internet traffic....

  • @blueuniform911 its never csesible from the internet, you need to do some advanced configuratio for that

  • @blueuniform911 they are blockd unles you portforwarded your ftp port

  • @blueuniform911 set up a firewall

  • THANKS A lot for this video it saved me time! Before I was using 2GB flash drives to transfer files between computers.

  • The installation part is not needed, cause yea we know how to install shit

  • Ive done it, when i try to accses it it says the username or password is incorrect :S helpp!!

  • i reccomend team viewer its easiers and you can send files free

  • Hi. How is this different to sharing files the normal way on the network? Isn't sharing the files on the network be it a server or client, roughly involve the same process involved as if you were doing peer to peer?

  • Thanks for the Video! This video was very helpful. I am going to try it with mac ox server, but the concepts should be same.

  • You Sound Like A Pedo...

  • @Max1636

well, i guess sounding like a pedo is better than being from australia

  • oops... hehe, didn't mean to delete your comment... but yes you are right

  • Does this work on windows vista?

  • @dq476 it should, as long as you download FileZilla for Vista.

  • cool so can i connect to it using my laptop?

  • @ashthepokemonmaster yep, as long as it's connected to your home network.

  • in windows 7 Microsoft have home group now so u can share ur file secure, already installed in the operating system, easy, fast, and even grandma can work with it lol

  • dude why u have to do all that??? why u don't just share files between ur computers it is easy and will do the trick

  • I'm not against that either, but it depends on what you mean by "share files between ur computers". Sure, this may not be the fastest, easiest solution... but it has far greater capabilities once it's established. If you're lazy, sure, this isn't a good solution.

  • you can even share ur drives so u can do anything u want for example u can map C: drive between two computers so u can listen to music etc...

so why u have to do all that. its gonna be easier and faster ;)

  • yeah, you could do that too... this method has a web interface and a lot more features... some people prefer using FileZilla, some people don't.

  • a2freaky: If you want to setup a website, and upload files to it, you need the computer with the files to be an FTP Server, so that the website can access the files from your IP. That, and you only have to do that once. If you have more than two computers in the house, then you have to go hook up each one with multiple wires, as opposed to just typing in an IP address.

  • this is pretty cool ! thanks bro !

  • So do I, but this is actually one of the cases where showing the computer's specs IS helpful. What you said would be true, except there's no specs to show off on this computer, lol.

  • Learn some grammar, then be a douchebag.

  • Why can't I do what you're doing?

  • so basically a shit computer

  • yeah, lol, it is. that's the point of turning it into a small file server. what else is it good for?

  • you should make a tutorial on how to connect it to a domain name!

  • maybe sometime...

  • um... isnt that required to access it over the internet without your personal IP showing up? cmon show us everything dont leave shit out, that is important!!

  • I wrote a video about how to set up a PRIVATE file server, so don't give me shit about stuff i should've included in the video. all you do to set up a domain name is register a domain, then type in your IP address in the settings of your account... it's not really that hard. Besides, if you have a decent firewall, you don't even need to worry about people knowing your IP.

  • Just set up a no-ip account.....

  • yeah thanks, I figured that out a long time ago after I got an assholio response. Idiots think that no one can see your IP if you have a firewall but that is not true. I think I used a proxy instead of no-ip so that my IP kept fluctuating and it was re-routed constantly.

  • Besides even if tthey did see it WTF could they do with it? if you got a firewall your protected from all IP based hacks XD even Windows firewall protects agenst that stuff haha

  • wow.... sounds like file sharing?

why not use the windows file sharing?

    is there any benifits?

    please answer...

  • It's a little like file sharing, but it has some major benefits over using the file sharing wizard in Windows. For one, each time you want to share files you are going through a wizard to set everything up. Secondly, you can use an older computer to safely backup files in case another computer gets infected. You can also access your files remotely if you set it up right...

  • File sharing would be beneficial in some cases, but setting up a server has the benefit of having a reservoir of sorts, a place where your files are stored and anybody on your network can access them (even at the same time).

If you're using windows file sharing, why not use a flash drive? lol, jk

  • nvm. i got it. =)

  • we never made a user name or password! help!
