  • Many of you may not be aware of this, but this song was written by Neil Sedaka. Who's he, I guess some you ask? Do your home work.

  • Your grndma was the reason for me being in love in hi school .Man what a great time to be alive ; say Thank you!

  • One of the reasons songs like this were overlooked was because they were not played on pop radio stations. Many were regulated to soul stations on A.M. radio. Now people wonder why the music of this period didn't receive more airplay. My guess? Today's rap, autotune and sampled music is ironic justice. Now the young people discover this music via Jay-Z, Dr. Dre and Snoop Doogg.

  • she look like the old lil kim

  • This should have been a major hit by Patti not the Fifth Dimension. Thanks record companies for non support.

  • When i saw you, i knew

That i was gonna love you

  • this version is much warmer and richer than the 5D. more soul and real emotion..........i love the 5D but i just think this is quite a bit better.

  • WOW Back in Lil' Kim's Junior Mafia day she really resembled Patti Drew can anybody see it.

  • gota love the old school love songs

  • straight in my day

  • Great version. Marilyn and the 5th Dimention aced this also.

  • *Patti Drew

  • Is it me, or does PattiDrew look like the old Lil' Kim on this album cover? Lol....

  • you are sooooo right, Patti Drew looks alot like Lil' Kim, you're good.

  • very good song patti.. E-town luv to you and carlton and CPk!!

  • tight rola dis ya boi yung_rich frm san jo

  • Yes! Better than The 5th Dimensions version. I was there the evening this song was recorded. My buddy, Carlton Black of The Naturals doing the bass, Fontella Bass and Jackie Ross doing the background vocals. It never got the play the other version did and that was a shame! Charles Perry-Kelly also of The Naturals.

  • @TheChuckperrykelly The 5th Demensions music is better and Marilyn McCoo Blows this song away..that is Why it charted higher than this version that I never heard..and trust I me I been listening to music since 3 .back in 1959, This version was not better than the cover. by the 5th Dimension. sorry

  • Well, I go back further than you. In Winter Park, Fl., we had a "turn-table" that I always listened to and played music by te Soul Stirrers before Sam Cooke sang lead(co-sang)and I still recall songs back then. Ever hear "Milky White Way" by them? Bet not. Patti's version was and is still better. Thanks anyway. CPK

  • @TheChuckperrykelly i just played both versions..Nope. the 5th music on the song is better..and Marilyn sings in a higher register. What has sam cooke and the soul stirrers got to do with the 5th and Patti Drew. Now Patti's Tell Him is immortal. No One can sing that. Patti owns that. and thats my favorite by her.

  • @blkshepherd Was just giving you a little of my background in music. Well, each is entitled to his/her own opinion. Carlton's bass is missing from the 5th's version & that makes a difference with me. Plus, the voices are different. Take care....

  • WORKING-it. nice job . Thanks 4/posting

  • dam patti iz hella fine

  • how great this song is.........didn't know there was a version before thre 5D.......tremendous song ...this version should have been #1.........very soulful

  • I love this song, it's so sweet. Something about it makes me want to cry, even back in the day. Thanks for posting!

  • A more upbeat version of this song was done by the Fifth Dimension. It was pretty good.

  • A timeless classic in times that we safe, calm and good, growning up was FUN, we didn't want to grow up life was so good. Thanks to songs and messages like these.None better

  • i love this song it reminds me when i was this girl that i cared about so much, but her obligation keep us apart but i loved what we had, thats what counts.i luv u mama u know how you are

  • 1968 Patti Drew and the Drewvells original is still a carolina beach music classic. This is so much better than the fifth dinsions remake a couple years later.Truly a grand strand sun coast classic..

  • My mother grew up with her and her sister's i see why she was a fan...

  • @xiloves who was your mother? patti is my auntie

  • @amandalalee -- Please let your aunt know how much joy her voice and phrasing still bring to so many! A thousand thanks!

  • The strings in the background are beautiful; "swirling" effect. The full orchestra thing goin on is framing her fabulous vocal performance in such a marvelous way...heaven to the ears.

  • Gorgeous! Thanks for posting this track.

  • your welcome

  • She is a wonderful singer. It's really sad when talent like her's doesn't continue. So many good artists on the wayside and ponder what we've got now.

  • Another jewel of the past!

  • To julian moreno whoes in avenal i know we can be working on a groovy thing baby i will be here waiting for you I looking forward to the day we can be in each others arms jessica

  • Those BO-DO-DO-DO's that open this cut totally appeal to my Doo-Wop sensibilities and pull me right in to "WOAGT" by Patti Drew. And I'm with hitomusic on that metronome laid down by her hip drummer. But not for nothing those lush languorous strings slay me with ecstacy & bliss! Dang! I was never one for drugs, it's music what does it for me. GOOD MUSIC, GOOD POST ~ snakeskate2000

  • your welcome. glad you like it.

  • Music=Brain Candy & it doesn't get better than this. She does a wonderous job.

  • I think do-wop was earlier, in the 50s. I can remember black music groups because that was about all that existed in early 60s until the Beatles came along. I wanted a pompadour hair cut really bad. I didn't know what it was called I just really wanted that hair style really, really badddd. Who was better than a guy with his hair styled like that?

  • Daaang! If I don't hear the spirit and vocal nuance of Bill Deal in this Patti Drew cut!

  • I got a +++message from Bill Deal, Jr. yesterday about a post I made relative to R&B and his father. I was quite shocked and had my ego jacked up about max. The're are still good people around and there has been some kinda good R&B in the past. Where is it now? I don't see any R&B or anything else based on what music we've had in the past. How can our souls be at peace without R&B?

  • One of my favorite songs..Ahhh

  • Jus luv how Patti Drew worked this. So fabulous. There's a "place" that's the magic of her vocal groove. It's like you can GO THERE. So unique; it's sooo it's own thing, know wot' I mean, mon? Check out the drummer giving her the awesome metronome beat to use her fabulous singing style on: 'tock-tock-tock-tock....'

  • your critique of Ms Drew is so on point...couldn't have said it better..FABULOUS!!!

  • Comment removed

  • As a former drummer, we call them, "rim shots!"

    Yeah, it sounds pretty-nice!! :)

  • good stuff,love da song!!!!!!!!good look'n!

  • tHiS jAM iS fUCkEN fiRME.ii l0VE it

  • This is a great song I really like this version a lot better than the 5th Dimension's version to me personally it sounds a lot more soulful.

  • When I saw you, I KNEW I was gonna love you!!!

  • WOW !!!!

  • Wow! What a voice. I think Patti rivals Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, and Etta James. I wish she hadn't given up singing and kept at it. I still appreciate what she did do. Patti Drew, Tammi Terrell, Brenda Holloway, the most gorgeous black soul sisters of their time, all three didn't get the chance to become as big as they should. Patti is the Queen of Chicago Soul. I hope she writes a book on her life. Beyonce, Rihanna, Ciara, Cassie, Christina Milan wish they could sing as good as Patti.
