Even in the film version of the duel, Dumbledore dominates Voldemort, because he basically counters everything Voldemort throws at him. The film shows that Voldemort is trying harder to win, while Dumbledore's simply holding his ground and trying to ward him off. Both the book and movie version of the scene rock.

I love it how so many people comment on the "Dumbledore vs Voldemort" thing without even reading the books. Dumbledore is clearly, CLEARLY depicted in the book as the more powerful wizard. He defeated Grindelwald while he was wielding the Elder Wand. In Harry Potter 5, Dumbledore was fighting to scare Voldemort away and protect Harry, not beat him, he already knew Harry had to be the one to beat Voldemort. In the books, he easily dominated Voldemort the whole time.

@KRUX006 I dont think so, the first time I read the books I thought the same. But the more I read, the more I thought that Voldemort was the more powerful. Dumbledore stated that Voldemort went further than any wizard into the relms of magic, and Dumbledore could only stalemate with the Elder Wand, Voldemort held his own with a basic wand. Theres the line in the books how Dumbledore was shaken by the summer duel. I think V was always more powerful, just Dumbledore was still good enough to fear.

When he was young he beat Grindelwald, who was just "a shade less skilfull" than Dumbledore, but wielded the Elder Wand to compensate. If he had his youth and still had the Elder Wand, I do believe he'd beat Voldermort.

If we could call upon elements, mess with time, talk with animals, that would be a sign that we have taken our next stage in evolution. This is actually pretty close to the book's battle...except in the book, Voldemort only uses Avada Kedavra and Dumbledore mostly sends objects to intercept the spell. Glad they added Voldemort's scream - epic!!

I don't understand how that fire didn't just burn Dumbledore alive. He only produces water five seconds aferwards, by which time he would have been dead had the snake not taken it's time to snap the air and look menacing.

And Voldemort should have drowned in that sphere of water. DROWNED I say. It's frustrating when Dumbledore loses control of the water to get Harry out of the way.

A great scene though, this is an epic duel. :)
