The comments mentioned in the New Republic article were in newsletters published after Dr. Paul sold his controlling interet in the newsletters. And almost none of them were blatantly racist, homophobic, anti-Semitic, etc. Anyone who actually bothered to carefully peruse them with an open mind would realize that.

Whoever wrote the racist parts was borrowing RP 's identity then, and as touchy as he is on that subject, I'm surprised he didn't investigate it more. There's a reason White Supremest follow Ron Paul. Not because he's a racist. Paul has had a long association with the Ludwig von Mises Institute, a think tank based in Auburn, Alabama founded by Lew Rockwell, who served as Paul's COS ('78-'82). Paul was the lead speaker at the Rockwell / Mises '95 conference on Secession from the United States: "We'll explore what causes [secession] and how to promote it."
If Lew ROckwell wrote the comments thats pretty messed up too. I doubt paul wrote them but he needs to release the name of who did, Rockwell or otherwise.

The racist parts of the newsletter were published when Paul was working full time as a doctor. That would make me more able to believe that he probably payed less attention to the "Freedom Report" and may not have been aware of what was going out.

In this TV interview, Kirchick is placing responsibility for AUTHORSHIP for every last word on Paul's shoulders--and nonetheless admitting in his article that he can only "presume" that Paul wrote these things. He also says in his article, "...it is difficult to know whether any particular article was written by Paul himself."

Whoever wrote the racist parts was borrowing RP 's identity then, and as touchy as he is on that subject, I'm surprised he didn't investigate it more. Lew Rockwell was the editor, and he would have known the ghostwriter. It may have been him or RP himself. The campaign is handling this in the worst imaginable way, though.

it's all too old and it seems to me that TNR did indeed check their facts (see the the link that is lowest on 'about the video'. its rather impossible to find out if Paul is truly a racist if you look at the links. it smells like smear campaign, but even if it is true; the constitution is Paul's anchor, and that certainly does not promote racism

The racist parts of the newsletter were published when Paul was working full time as a doctor. That would make me more able to believe that he probably payed less attention to the "Freedom Report" and may not have been aware of what was going out.
However, it is still unsettling that Ron Paul had this type of hate going out under his name. It just seems so opposed to what he actually says or writes.
Oh, and did the guy say he speaks in racist "code". What an imbecile.
