Since Anonymous does not encourage law-breaking, I believe it's up to the individual whether he/she wants to truly remain Anonymous, or be known as "Anonymous."
If the group acheives it's goals, soon EVERYONE will be Anonymous (free). The mask is an emblem, it STANDS for something, that is enough for some. There may be those who choose to truly remain anonymous for whatever purpose (and some who SHOULD, in order to cover their asses!!) I don't own a mask, but I'm FREE to take it off- RIGHT???

@victordemise The problem is that TCOS is **NOT** dead. They are still active, and still happy to grab a picture of anyone they can and will do everything to make that person's life hard, see for reference, Operation Freakout.
They are not unwilling nor unable (at least financially) to cause us little people problems: The only saving grace is that there are too many anonymous to do this, but don't rest on those laurels. COS needs to go down, sooner rather than later.
