  • Perfection!

  • Me too YounGun66. Get's me going every tme. My husband was overseas at the time this came out and I was pregnant. Brings back so many memories. Thanks for posting this.

  • One of the best song writers ever - Leon Russell

  • I feel sorry for anyone who thinks that this can be topped, it has got to be the nearest thing to musical perfection there can possibly be. What a song, what an arrangement, what a singer ! No one could ever categorize them, they were just " The Carpenters "

  • I AM SORRY..LUTHER'S VERSION WAS MUCH BETTER

  • The best female singer ever. Enough said

  • What a voice.

  • I feel like Peter the disciple denying their obvious talent

  • I was one that denied their talent

  • Tommy Boy.

  • loneliness,is such a sad affair,and i can hardly wait,

    to be with you again......

  • It is a rather depressing song which does not leave a dry eye for anyone

  • Long ago but not so far away I fell in love with her.......So many of did..........aw we wathced and dreamed and thought she would come back again someday maybe..........

  • One of the greatest voices ever.

  • crying, :(

  • karen, i love you. i really do

  • 59 Dislikes I suggest you get your ears syringed, Karen vocally is a one off.

  • My fave song sung brilliantly RIP Karen you are sorely missed.

  • SHE DIED SO YOUNG..THATS SOO SAD TILL THIS DAY

  • Even as a young kid, I loved chokers on girls...Susan Dey, Karen Carpenter, Karen Valentine among others who wore them once in a while.

  • the best of karen :)

    I love it ++

  • theres a melancholy element to karens voice that made her unique!

  • @er9804

Yes I agree. She had a hauntingingly beautiful tone I haven't heard in any other pop singer since

  • Karen, how sad you never felt the love that your voice inspired... I've often wished I could have shared your music with you but alas, we would never have met anyway. Yet, your voice continues to haunt my memory. Richard, you gave her your soul, let her be the star... and I know you died when she died. Thank you from my heart for letting us remember.

  • very talented.hell, she was a drummer fer christ sakes.

  • I was heartbroken when she died. She had such a beautiful voice. Of all the songs she sang, this is still my favorite.

  • Few teenagers in the 1970s would admit to liking the Carpenters but, as an "AM girl," I loved them and still do. This song, in my opinion, was one of the best they ever recorded. Karen was one of the best female vocalists ever. Richard put the group together, wrote a lot of the songs, orchestrated all the arrangements (sometimes he didn't get credit for it) and Karen was an excellent drummer--she considered her singing talent a bonus. But it was her vocals that sold the records. RIP Karen.

  • @wlhardy That happened with Abba too. It was "not done" to like that music. I did. And I absolutely loved the Carpenters. I was sooo devastated when she died!!

  • @wlhardy I love them, I love them, I love them, ^_^

  • @wlhardy You got that right YongGun66! The other thing, back in the day you couldn't tell if it was "live or memorex" No bending or blending in the studio like the today so called artists that need to lip-sync on stage. Are you listening Miley and Britney?

  • Does anyone remember the movie "Tommy's Boy"? This song was in it

  • @mmiller71 Heehee I can't listen to this song without singing it out loud like they did in the movie ^_^

  • English horn

  • Will someone please tell me the name of the instrument being played starting at :14 and ending at :25 is? Its some kind of horn, but which kind?

  • @Yepprd probably French horn in F?

  • Comment removed

  • @Yepprd i think it's a french horn.. not sure. maybe flute

  • hauntingly beautiful song... we miss you Karen

  • Why did you leave us? Make's me so sad with all that talent. Gift from god, thank you for the brief moment of time, your the best!!!

  • This is one of the finest voices in the business. Another one is Cher. The difference though is night and day. I've thought Cher has the one of the richest voices. Full of harmonics and other vocal artifacts etc that make it so. Karen's voice is pure and utterly clean; the other end of the scale. As pure as a lead glass crystal..

  • For me only two recording artist that can sing this are Luther Vandross and her...and they both are dead!

  • r.i.p hun xx i cnt believe u died from anerxica :(

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever written!1 And this from a guy who likes good old rock and roll and the Beatles LOL

  • I do not like pop music but I love Karen Carpenter. Her voice just grabs me for some reason. Its sounds pure and innocent.

  • merçi pour ses beau moments a d r e=avec respect et paix,amour

  • I do believe that Leon Russel wrote this song.

  • a very well made youtubepoop

  • U CANT COMPARE KAREN&LUTHER...KARENS VERSION IS THE POP VERSION&LUTHERS IS THE R&B VERSION......IT DEPENDS WHAT MOOD U IN ON BOTH SONGS....

  • awww the lovely karen carpenter, she is singin with the angels now.

  • @cujo9 That, she is .. such a pure and wonderful talent taken from us way too soon ..

  • @cujo9 She sang like an angel when she was with us.

  • Welp, time to cry again so here I am.

  • 57 retardados

  • @Disordercontrol You have no clue about voices OR love. Its sad. I hope someday when u r a big boy, you will have more adult experiences. Then maybe u will understand

  • WOW, what a performance

  • Ok....Grew up on 60's/70's music, been a true metal head since 1980 and here it is 6:50 am and i'm listening to Karen with tears in my eyes. NO ONE comes close to Karen when they sing

  • why havent they or someone remastered the video its a classic

  • przybądż i naciesz nasze uszy

  • God I love this woman, the voice of an angel! people 100 years from now will still be listening to Karen, her voice is timeless and ageless! THAT is the sign of a true artist.

  • This is the song they used to open their concerts with, plenty of time in the musical intro to come out take a bow, but an absolute bear of a song to open a show up with night after night let me tell you. Karen could sing anything, at any range. There's a new generation of talented Carpenters now & I know Richard will guide them in the right direction carreer wise. Aunt Karen I know will be watching proudly from above. GB KC

  • i regret LIKING THIS SHYT ...GO JUSTIN BEIBER FUK THISD

  • There will never be another voice like Karen's.

  • luther vandross version is way better

  • @snacks123 I've been split on who's version is the best for years. I think it depends on what mood I'm in. I love Karen's clarity of voice and the fact that she just sings the song without any extras. But when I need some soulful deliverance Luther is unbeatable. However, Whitney Houston did a very impromptu acapella version in 2004 after Luther had his stroke. I have a feeling hers would've been my favourite if she had recorded it. Cut & paste: Superstar(Until You Come Back) live in Hong Kong

  • @eugene1 Just my opinion Eugene, but no one could sing this better than Karen Carpenter. I am biased because I think Karen Carpenter had the absolute best voice in modern day pop history. No one in my mind has ever come close. As far as Whitney Houston goes, I never liked her. She had abilities, but she would oversing songs to me and she would use the vocal acrobatics and screaming sometime. Now it is just moot because the woman has completely ruined any voice she had by her drug abuse,

  • @Purple1984Rain I agree totally purple. I do like Celine Dion out of that lot, but I never was a fan of Mariah or Whitney. I have spent my whole life being a pop music buff and somewhat of a historian so I have heard lots of people and songs in my life and Karen Carpenter just is in a league of her own. She is also one of the few people who can sing flawless live. You can't even tell the difference! I just wish music would turn back to a place where songs had a melody and were memorable.

  • @snacks123

Are you serious? Karen own's this song. Nobody can be compared to her. not even Luther. Sorry

  • @Purple1984Rain I have to disagree. Luther's version is better, way better. Its more heart breaking, musically lush, haughting and of course soulful. Luther took the song and made it his own. He even added to it. The "Until You Come Back To Me" part was genius.

  • @enmaxus Many singers have recorded this song but Karen Carpenter sang the definitive version & the Carpenters were the only ones to make it a famous hit record. That says a lot about who most people think does the best version. Luther Vandross's slow whiny R&B version only appealed to a small group when he released it as a single. It bombed, peaking at only #87 on Billboard charts while the Carpenters' version peaked at #2.

  • @JimmyPorsche Look now, I did not insult Karens vocals although I love the Carpenters music and I love Karens version. Luthers version peaked at #3 on the R&B charts. Karens version simple yet beautiful. Luthers version soulful. LOL@ "slow, whiney." I see you have had your bowl of Hate cereal...lol! However, Im not hear to argue whose version is better but I respect your opinion. Have a good holiday.

  • @JimmyPorsche While the Billboard charts indicate the then current listening trend...it pales in comparison with the many hits on youtube for Mr. Vandross version. I personally like them both.

  • @snacks123 Pass that bong, dude. If the stuff is that good, I'm falling off the wagon.

  • @snacks123 Yes it is.

  • I had to listen to Karen Carpenter's version of this song to cleanse my mind of the rap travesty version from X-Factor.

  • Her voice will always have a special place in my heart. It's very sad to think of how young she left us. For that, I can't listen to a Carpenter's song without getting misty eyed.

  • Darn! why did she have to die so young?

  • Superstar demonstrates Karen's superb ability as a torch singer. Arguably their finest piece over their lighter commercial music.

  • OMG... Karen, you are the best baby!!!!

  • @Angiellitta

YES!!! Karen was in a league of her own we haven't seen since

  • Now on Christmas time check out her classic "I'll Be Home For Christmas" really a classic. Amazing voice she still is!!

  • My favorite Carpenters song!

  • Shivers..

  • God, what a voice!!!

  • @1UNCOOLMIKE

    Lovely Indeed!

  • You left us too soon Karen, heavens gain!!

  • If there ever was a more pleasing voice than Karen's then I never I heard it. Her voice is so peaceful....it puts me at ease.

  • @johnex3303

Agreed! Her voice reaches inside you and turns you into a weeping little baby :))) It's inexplicable!!

  • gdziekolwiek jestem słyszę tą muzykę w głowie

  • Karens voice is like sleeping between warm velvet sheets. Just the most beautiful voice in pop music.

  • @sisterstiffticket1 Karen Carpenter is beyond any level of a singer Barring NONE

she was not a singer but an angel sent by the father himself! her voice will haunt

anyone right to their soul! what you are saying is a mild understatement! there isn't

a voice today to even match Karen Carpenter! the memories of her are worth their

weight in GOLD!!! Amazing couldn't even start to describe Karen! Thev heavenly

father gave us a gift that is and will be treasured forever by her fans.

  • @sisterstiffticket1 Perfectly put. Karen Carpenter had a voice in a million. Beautiful.

  • These were great records.

  • I love them! great voice!

  • This song has a haunting atmosphere feeling to it. I can't help thinking after all these years that her death and this song are some how linked together. don't ask me why just a feeling.

  • I was a hard rocker back in those days....but even I was knocked out by Karen...even if I didnt admit it to my bros..she was SPECIAL....always will be

  • love...

  • Extraordinaire et bouleversant ! L’âme des années 70....La bande-son de mon enfance. Karen, I miss you so much.

  • Incredible impeccable song......nothing more needs to be said about this song....

  • Her voice was perfect. Nobody could sing a sad song like Karen Carpenter.

  • WHAT LUTHER VANDROSS REMADE THIS SONG!!! I NEVER KNEW THAT IT WASN'T ORIGNIALLY HIS SONG!!

  • boy i wish i had paid more attention to this group in the 1970's.they really recorded some pretty songs . and her voice sooo.. smooth, sooo.. purrfect, sooo. easy on the ears.she is the 'superstar"

  • i could listen to her voice all day -- great voice great song !!!!

  • @genesis12222

I even listen to The Carpenters when I work out at the gym. How lame is that?? :)) Karen's voice is like crack for music lovers. You keep coming back for more and more and it's stil somehow never enough!

  • @Purple1984Rain omg i listened to them at the gym today :D

  • You know... it might just be that there are some very "mouse-challenged" people out there who are aiming for the LIKE hotlink...

    ... and miss.

    Poor souls.

We should pity them. Their decision to indicate their love for the beautiful and talented Carpenters has been lost. :-(

  • Only the good die young. Karen had the most angelic voice I've heard to this day. Ann Wilson for female rock vocals and Karen for pop. Doesn't get any better.

  • @marketweis

I agree 100% and would add Patsy Cline on the country side. The 3 greatest voices in their respective categories. Untouchable imo

  • Oh Tommy Boy

  • 55 assholes now :-)

  • thumbs up if you came here cuz of Chris Rene

  • @supermariasalas I came here for Karen Carpenter

  • @supermariasalas its all good now you know who Chris is.

  • @supermariasalas i'm here for karens beautiful voice. not some shit 'talent' show...

  • leon russell wrote this tune. the carpenters perfected it, made it their own.

  • pure --- pure --- wonderful

  • Sonic Youth's plox.

  • 53 tonedeaf ppl voted.

    Miss you Karen!!!

  • Flawless!

  • The sound from building to building certainly varies in concert venues, but I have to say that The Carpenters sound was so close everytime it just about sounded like the record. Karen had a way of streching a vocal if she had to. (meaning if she wasen't having her best night, which was rare) They expected the band to be up to par everynight as well, no question about that. Believe me Karen was a great drummer, but the truth is that Cubby O'brien was responsible for alot of that sound. GB KC

  • Holy shit 1971 is the year my house was built!

  • Rainy Days and this song are my favorites. Beautiful, rich, deeper tones to Karen's voice make this song a stand out. The chorus part disappoints in that it becomes a bit bubblegum pop, in stark contrast to the forlorn melancholy of the intro.

  • Perfect

  • 53 morons plainly can't hear a "superstar"! Pax to all from 73soulboy.Xxx.

  • Karens voice was like having a Superpower, or God given power beyond that of mortal men,,,,or women.

  • RIP Superstar!

  • This particular version of THIS song. Unbelievable. Rock my soul.

  • beautiful woman, we miss you!

  • <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

  • I forgot how much I love this song..chokes me up everytime I listen to it..

  • The special thing that song theorists and critics fail to realize is that while many sang this song, Karen Carpenter made it her own. There never has been, and suspect there will be another voice like hers. The sad, haunting melody lives deep in everyone's soul...and is truly poignant as it is true. History was made here and will live forever. Love you, Karen!

  • thumbs up for the chinese guy

  • 好聽!

  • Karen Carpenter had the voice of Angels! I'll never forget her.

  • God bless Karen Carpenter

  • i reckon this is their best song....

i mean everytime when i listen to this at night

i cant stop listening to it......

  • Karen hits a nerve in the kid that heard her sing...long ago...

  • timeless..

  • I love you Karen

  • Karen's incredible voice is just the finest thing that can be bestowed on any living creatures ear, not only does it lift the soul but it gives you an almighty hug at the same time! I dearly miss her so very much! xx

  • "Superstar" is a 1969 song written by Bonnie Bramlett and Leon Russell (Delaney & Bonnie and Friends). The Carpenters version is the most famous. A wonderful song...

  • I am starting to dislike the Carpenters because her songs make me cry.

  • i love her singing......RIP karen.....love you

  • Such a shame but we must be grateful for having her even for a short time

  • Probably the best Female voice ever.

  • To Randy Schmidt (Author of Little Girl Blue) Karma's a bitch!

  • Karen was PERFECT!!!

  • her voice is a sick fucking instrument

    hail

  • A once in a lifetime soulful and rich voice. RIP Karen. We love you.

  • 52 fucking assholes

  • @MIKE21071964 Now it's 53 soulless bastards.......I feel sorry for'em that they can't appreciate her

  • God was she beautiful !

  • Nobody has, nor ever shall have, her voice. When I reach heaven, all the choirs of angels will fall silent as even their voices won't be as beautiful as hers.

  • "What to say to make you come again, come back to me again."

  • One of my favorite Carpenter songs. She was such a class act! Karen was young, healthy, looking great and carried herself in perfect voice with such professional posturing. Her angelic voice will echo for numerous generations.

  • what a voice.

  • Todays artists need the help of a software to achieve this kind of performance.

  • Karen you are a SUPERSTAR in music. Sorry that you left us so soon!!

  • Carpenters are Cool!!!!

  • Love this song!! I didn't know the name of the song, now I do!! Thank you!!

  • Ya who are the 51 idiots

  • I hope Randy Schmidt (Author of Little Girl Blue) had the chance to watch Piers Morgan's interview with Michael Jackson's brother Jermaine Jackson, where Jermaine talks about how people write "UNAUTHORIZED" books about celebrities. Sound familiar Carpenter fans??? For as many people who have bought & read his mere pamplet of a book. Family, Friends, people who lived & toured it know most.

    Q. Did Mr. Schmidt ever even meet Karen?

    A. NO!

    Q. What would Karen think of the book?

    A. She wouldn't

  • very rarly i give credits to cover songs , but luthur vandrosss dis very good as did joe cocker on with a little help.

  • OMG! In high school my friend got me hooked on them!! Now I still know the words! haha

  • Her voice is a religious experience.

  • thumbs up if you looked for this song after watching Marvel/DC Happy Hour 3!!

  • Her voice&song make me sad.

I wanted her to be alive.

  • I always felt this was their most beautiful and emotional song. Okay, will the 51 idiots who are the dislikes please step forward?

  • @primogennaio they dont know which foot to put first. lol

  • @theDeckisStacked I love Karen Carpenter. A voice like no other. I don't care what my rocker friends think. I'm owning it!!

  • @localcrew

Tell your freinds if they knew anything about music they would appreciate her as much as you do. Karen was the greatest female pop singer that ever lived imo. The music industry has never been the same since.

  • Those opening oboe notes just make me want to dive headfirst into the mosh pit!! CARPENTERS EFFIN' RULE!!!

  • Thumbs up if Tommy Boy brought you here.

  • Her vocal range was 4 octaves. Extremely rare.

40 years - seems like much longer with all the stuff going on now.
