  • This was a really helpful video. I was having difficulties finding a source that actually explained what Postcolonialism was without just tearing it apart first! That said, the whole last part of the video was probably unnecessary. Thank you for making this :)

  • @MissRissaXox Thanx 4 ur critique

  • @MissRissaXox I have another video on Orientalism and Postcolonialism

  • That's right! STOP Imperialism! STOP using the iNTERNET! STOp speaking in English! STop using EMOTES!

All who use these are being COLONizED!

    Yaaargh!

  • Tommorow is the 37th aniversary of Turkish invasion in Kypros. Instead of the withdrawal of foreign troops, western countries are talking for peace, as if the matter was an internal quarrel between Greeks and the turkish minority. And they are paying for conflict resolutions seminars...

If peace building and conflict resolution are part of postcolonialism, why here in Kypros western countries are paying for seminars for peace and conflict resolution?

Is post-colonial studies still our weapon?

    -.

  • @Mauromoustakos U have good points. I respect your critique. What are your suggestions so that I can learn from you?

  • I am all against colonialism and imperialism. They create wars and poverty, they destroyed and destroy whole peoples. But I was very angry with this f****** stupid bird of peace everywhere. I hate peace. Peace is the ideological weapon imperialism use each time our peoples stand up for freedom.

    from Kypros (Zypern, Chypre).

    -.

  • @Mauromoustakos Thanx 4 your comments. Instead of the bird of peace sign, what do you recommend as appropriate substitutes? Please justify. Looking forward to your advice. Thanx.

  • @reyty2 - It could be photos from demonstrations of the peoples. In Kypros, Kurdistan, Palestine, everywhere. It could be guerillas in the mountains of Kurdistan, Palestinian freedom fighters. Since it is intended to combine action with analysis, massive popular demonstrations should be the first to come to mind. (to be continued) (!!)

    -.

  • If the people struggle for peace, then peace is an anti-imperialist aim. If its simply a graphic, it leaves unchallenged the western point of view that "differences should and can be solved non-violently", summarilly counts freedom fighters among terrorists, etc. .

And yes, I'll study your channel. Thanks.

    -.

  • @Mauromoustakos u r right. instead of illusions of peace conceived abstractly, photos of people in struggle against injustice everywhere are better alternatives. i learn from your comments & i will do that in my succeeding videos. thanx 4 your thoughtful insights.

  • This is painfully slow. And why have the viewer read the text when the benefit of Youtube is that you can watch and hear? And you really think Postcolonial theory is not studied by Westerners? That is pure rubbish. Take a look at any literature department, there is always at least one specialist in postcolonialism.

  • @matthewstands I am in the West. I *never* said Westerners don't study postcolonial theory. What is rubbish?

  • this was so helpful in demystifying terms and references i'd heard of but didnt fully understand. thanks!

  • @bmw0688 I'm glad it helped. Thanks.

  • I'm very green re Subaltern studies - I'm constantly coming across the word 'Subject' for instance in the phrase 'Subject formation exceeds the borders of the intending Subect'. What is meant exactly by the word subject? Very basically I understand it to be an ideological group/political entity that can influence/be influenced? I'd really really appreciate help on this.

  • @MrSpanky87 Hello! I'm not sure in what context the word "Subject" you refer to. In general, "Subject" is central in phenomenology and postmodernism. Please refer to my video on Husserl's Phenomenology In His Own Words -- "Rey Ty". Perhaps that would answer your question. Best wishes to you!

  • @reyty2 Thanks very much for your reply! I watched the video you suggested and it was very instructive. I understood how the subject views phenomenon through his/her distinct cognitive perception. However when I still can't understand how the word is used in this particular text I'm reading by Gayatri Spivak entitled 'Can the Subaltern Speak?' If I may quote the first few lines:

  • @reyty2 'Some of the most radical criticism coming out of the West today is the result of an interested desire to conserve the subject of the West, or the West as Subject. The theory of pluralized 'subject-effects' gives an illusion of undermining subjective sovereignty while often providing a cover for this subject of knowledge." (...)

  • @MrSpanky87 I'm not an expert of Gayatri Spivak. It would be best if you search for youtubers who are experts of Gayatri Spivak. Best wishes to you.

  • @reyty2 Ok then thanks so much anyway!

  • thanks for the vid. ! it was a great help, thank you,.

  • ur welcome!

  • Thank you very much for this video, you've been a great help, mate.

  • This is idiotic.
