I've got the same guitar, but mine was made 2 months later than that one with serial # V014799. Mine has the name "Torres" on the bottom of the neck where the date is located. I bought it in 85 and it I've worn the finger board down over all these years but at it plays like butter!
i just posted a video of my 4 early coronas, the early ones have those thin fullerton contours, from what i've read the coronas were closer to the 62/57s after cbs left...but, i look at these guitars both the fullerton/coronas as their own strats, stand on their own..they are all simply wonderful instruments
Hi..i have a 2TS 57 american vintage from 1995...does this have the poly undercoat on the body as i hear the early ones didn't...is mine classed as early? Would be greatful if anyone could help me with this.
@DangerousBastard The necks were very thin on the early re-issues. I have a 1983 '62 re-issue and there is not much neck at all. The edges are sharp too. Other than that it plays great and doesn't sound any different than one with a bigger neck. The neck on your 2000 has a bit more wood on it.
@DangerousBastard in fact they were thin C shaped necks, whereas the newer ones ( since 20 years in fact) ahve the original V shaped neck you would find on an original 57... however david gilmour's favourite neck is the " wrong" C one from the Fullerton era ( 83)
You didnt mention the name stamp on the neck heel as there should be a name stamped on the neck heel that identifies the person who shaped the individual guitar neck. Its very faint, as I missed it the first time I looked my '82 over - I would be curious to know what name is stamped on any 82-85 Strat neck.
Thanks for informative video. I saw this Fender 57 reissue a a local mom and pop music shop. Its a maple fingerboard, and looks like fiest red color...it is very faded and road worn, but very playable and the neck is in great playable shape, but the laquer finish on the fingerboard and the back of the neck is worn also. I was informed the guitar is stock and comes with the stock tweed case. Serial# is V0407xx. What year would this be?? It also has the 3 way switch installed.
just a question, i have a '93 '57 reissue, will the fretboard get that played in rubbed patches like vintage strats? i heard something about a poly undercoat not allowing that
Im pretty sure the early ones dont have the poly coat. Why do you care about fretboard wear so much anyways? If ur guitar plays good who cares. ive had 2 guitars with extensive fretboard wear and it doesnt play as good as a new clean one
I've got a 1982 two tone Sunburst with a maple neck. Neck date 7-29-82, there's a name on the neck tag A Castenata. Lots of finish wear on fretboard from 27 years of playing. I bought it brand new.
@wamster101 Yeh dude, castenata was an employee when george fullerton and leo fender re-started the factory when they bought it back from CBS. Do you want to sell it?
beautifully made, and nothing feels better than a nitro finish. the narrow neck radius makes for difficult bends but its something you get used to. I've got a couple videos of my 1982 '57 reissue...
I have one of these in tobacco sunburst. Bought it used in 83. I loved it from the first time I played it. It feels and sounds great. Will never sell this one!
Its about time someone did a video like this. I have seen these guitars heat up on ebay the last few years and it was so hard to get any info about them. So how do the red pickups sounds? Any different than the black bottom pickups?
You said this was vintage white in your video. It looks more yellowish to me. Cool guitar though. I play an ibanez, but I also have an old squier that I like to play here and there.
Yea, the old vintage white strat yellow with time. If you look underneath the pickguard you can see just how much this finish has yellowed. I have seen some of these that almost look banana yellow.
The newest Am. Standard sounds pretty vintage. However, for the last few decades the pickups that fender has been using in their Standards strats are higher output than vintage strats.
So, either get a 2008 Standard, or a vintage reissue/classic vibe if you want a vintage tone.
Wow, this is one heck of a guitar! I have never seen a serial number this low. How long have you been collecting these strats? I have a 1987 american reissue strat that is my number one, has been for the last 10 years. Keep these vids coming! Sweet website too.
Thanks. I have been collecting these for several years. I have only seen 2 guitars with serial numbers lower than this. The lowest serial number that I have seen is V000137, but that was a pieced together frankenstrat.

Anybody know what the necks are like on the old reissues compared to more recent ones? Mine is from about 2000 (its a '57), and plays very nice!

Yea yours has a poly undercoat. The Poly is there so that you WONT wear it out.

but did all the 57 reissues including early ones have a poly undercoat? because i've seen 57 reissues with fretboard wear

no, it is not for sale, she's my baby
I recently saw a Telecaster on e-bay with a Casteneta neck and the same date,
I would have liked to have grabbed that guitar, but I had just bought a 2007 R9 59 Les Paul reissue
and didn't have the cash on hand.
