This is a terrific clip. So much valuable information.  If artists understood the groundwork basics there would be more success. Being a successful musician is not just having a sound product it is about being willing to do the work. Mr. Blackwell started out by selling cd's out of the back end of his car. We can make the beats, and record our voices on tracks on a LaptopPC. Make our own CDs, and drive out in rented buses to perform shows.

Very useful information. We live in the age where most successful artists will do it on there own before a label will look at them. The fact that you can basically do all the things a label used to do for artists on your own, makes record labels spoiled for choice. They mostly ignore artists that are going to have to be built from the ground up. They want an artist/band who has a following, has a cd or album, and is reasonably malleable. Times are a changin ;)

Great video, and I really honestly agree with everything he said.  I've got a certain sound, with what I do, and if a record label came along I would maybe consider it, but never if that meant changing anything or giving up the slightest bit of control. Not worth it.
