  • Interesting comment Miket3hshinobi, given the rotary engine has been embraced by car manufacturers in your country, and ignored in the country of origin. Have you ever driven one? The rotary is engine is pretty awesome - particularly a tricked out 12A in an RX2 or RX3.....

    its like saying i want a chopper with one cyclinder insted of a V twin. if its gas i can see that but other then that 20b is the perferred choice.

  • actually, the 20b three rotor is n/a and the 2 rotor 13b is turbo, so its all depending on what you want... but you can fabricat two 13bs together and have a 4 rotor and well... then the 20b and 13b are nothing because you have a 4 rotor turbo angine... i dont know what company it is, but they have a video of it on here.

  • The 20B only ever came from the factory as a sequential twin turbo, as an option in the Cosmo. The 13B was NA until the turbo version of the series 4 (FC3S). It is very expensive to fabricate an eccentric shaft for a 4 rotor to start with. You can look for "Queen street racing"

  • @andrew93nz I wouldn't exactly say the U.S. manufacturers embrace rotary engines,,, I don't know of one US built car that has one. As for the country of origin,, ya, I can't say I ever saw a German car with one either. (maybe back when Wankel invented them, but not since)

  • @Jackle61 Nobody else makes them because Mazda are the only ones with the rights to them.

  • @Jackle61 Ive seen a few BMW's with rotors in them. Of course they didnt come like that from the factory though. Can't wait for the RX9 which is supposed to have a 1.6L rotary with aluminum housing. The car will be on the ND MX-5 chassis so hopefully it will weigh under 2400lbs.

  • @JD0x0 Actually its been reported that the RX-9's displacement bump has been from 1.3, to 1.8 liters. So it looks like it'll be getting a three rotor styled in the same manner as the RX-8s side intake and side exhaust ports.

  • @DivineWindSerpent im hearing that it will be a 2 rotor. The increased displacement will be from a larger rotor, with a bigger "stroke" which will solve some of the problems rotories can have. It should also aid in fuel efficiency a bit. Im also hearing rumors that the engine will have an electric supercharger. And FYI the info im getting is stating the the engine will displace 1.6L, and named the "16X" accordingly.

  • @JD0x0 Please feel free to post a source for your info then. All I have is from fastlane daily, though I don't doubt they could be mistaken. Additionally, rotaries dont really have many problems, outside of chattering, which is rapidly going away. A larger rotor might be nice, for the increased torque/inertia could produce, but I can't see much difference outside of that.

  • This was the Racing Beat Bonneville Racer, from before it was repainted. Its got a 13G Race engine from Mazdaspeed with THREE turbos on it, makes well over 900 horse, and is currently the fastest rotary in the world at 242 miles an hour

  • Where I got this video from described the speed as 217mph - but I don't believe that, so I didn't include that in the description. If he was doing 94-95 metres / second (340 kph) then he stopped pretty quickly without any brakes. He had also recently changed from 4th to 5th gear so in theory was still accelerating - I'd say it was less than 200mph.

    That video looks like a great effort, but the car's body looks stock and lacks the aero package to successfully get it to 200 mph. Thinking about it, that's probably a primary reason it became stable at that high speed. Tonks

    Explanation: Vehicle becomes unstable when aerodynamic upforce unloads the rear wheels.
