I hate how people call anyone who likes this game a fanboy. If you really enjoy something of course you are going to talk about it like it is the greatest thing around.
Boo! FF6 had a way better story. Especially how they managed to make all the characters (except Umaru) feel like they contributed to the main plot. After small side quests, it felt to me that characters like Barret were just along for the ride. Also, FFVII brought us the cinema. If not for those, FFVII wouldn't have stood out nearly as much.
FFVII is THE Final Fantasy game that made so many people buy a ps1 instead of a nintendo :).It is by far the best build RPG ALL AROUND.Close Second is FFX :)

For all the people complaining that this is such a positive review... CGR is almost always positive reviews. Thats the reason I like CGR reviews! 40 - 50 hours? The first time I played through this, I thought you had to kill the Midgar Zolom, so I ground until I was strong enough to kill it. My timer was stopped at 99 hours before I killed it. I had a chocobo, went past it, saw the convo, then left that area w/ the dead snake. I didn't know i had to go back in... so I killed the snake, then obviously it let me past that point since that was my 2nd time entering... so i thought i did it correctly.... :/
@RAGNAROC511 I don't think that's what he meant. I think most people can finish this game in 40 - 50 hours, not that the game takes place over a span of 3 days.

oh my god. this game is not that great Yes i've beaten it. The story is so convoluted and forced as to not make sense. And the fact that Cloud's back-story makes so little sense that the game would be better if he wasn't the protagonist. He is just a distraction to the story. what little there is.

It's only on blueray but you should be able to find it online streaming somewhere if you lack a player. It added a decent amount of scenes, as well as redid a few....
@IIxXGhostTrainXxII lol maybe a little bit, but it's alright. It was a good movie so it deserves exposure. Have you seen the one that talks about Zack and the Nibelheim reactor incident? It's something I found on here, hand-drawn animation, in Japanese but with english subtitle...definitely something you should watch if you're a big fan of the story. Basically it tells you everything that happens before FF7 begins..

FF7 is the best of the series IMO, i love the storyline and twists of it the charismatic characters and the funny moments and dramatic events like aeris death and the Life stream thing.. its a masterpiece.

This game still to this day was the greatest Christmas present I ever got! I used to ride my bike home in 7th grade right after basketball practice and play this game for hours! And I never beat it! I got frustrated when I couldn't breed a gold chocobo and get KotR materia!! But I just downloaded this on my PS3 and I am going to right the wrongs of my past and beat this damn game lol! Seriously one of my (if not my all-time) favorite video games!
FF7 the great Japanese RPG ever made? Absolutely not. I enjoyed Final Fantasy VI, Lost Odyssey, Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy IX better than that and those games mentioned are great examples of compelling storytelling, in-depth characterization and great gameplay combined.

I'm no liberal (hardcore capitalist here), but I fail to see what's wrong with a story tackling things like environmental issues, possible corporate tyranny, and life after death, in a genius and often subtle manner. Most games are afraid to tell stories that have something to say, so we get game after game with shit stories.
never beat the game, i was leveling to fight sephiroth and my buddy came over. he started a new game and the only thing i told him is when saving DONT SPAM X. i think you can put together what happened. we dont talk anymore...
You can disagree but the fact remains this was one of the top selling games along side Super Mario Bros. 3 until Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops took the title. This game made people open their eyes to the RPG genre and respect it. If not for this game their would be no Kingdom Hearts or many of the others. If I had not played this I probably would not be playing video games today and I'm 24 right now and have been playing since I was 7, so long live Final Fantasy 7.

I prefer IV, but to each his own. Is it the best RPG? Again, debatable. It would most likely be in the running. Is it the best game ever? I wouldn't say so.

i suggest 4 the most tho
i highly advise not playing 11-13 because they are to me and many others they are the lesser entries to the final fantasy series
they dont really feel "right" in many ways
and if your up to it later on play 3, 5, 6, 8, and 9, but 3 is very hard btw D:
they are really good as well, but if you are not really into retro gaming i dont know if youll like 1 and 2

after 7(besides 9) they all suck. FF died completely after 9. 8 got it's ass kicked off the ff wagon too.

FF7 is the best of the series IMO, i love the storyline and twists of it the charismatic characters and the funny moments and dramatic events like aeris death and the Life stream thing.. its a masterpiece.

pros: great design,amazing music(one of my favorite sound tracks ever) fun combat.and very engaging gameply.
cons:pretty bland story(except for berrets side story)characters were nothing special.(pretty much your average anime characters.except berret)horrific fanbase.(i dont even want to go their)and caused the death of old school FF.(excet for ff9 which is my favorite in the series)overall a very mixed expirence

hes just a mamas boy .all he dose is kill aeris. she wasnt even a important or interesting character.and this games story is amazing?its barely on par with a generic anime.it basicly just about a emo mamas boy drooping a metor on the planet for no reason.and cloud taking on zack personality was just plain lame. only good character in this game was berret.

This game still to this day was the greatest Christmas present I ever got! I used to ride my bike home in 7th grade right after basketball practice and play this game for hours! And I never beat it! I got frustrated when I couldn't breed a gold chocobo and get KotR materia!! But I just downloaded this on my PS3 and I am going to right the wrongs of my past and beat this damn game lol! Seriously one of my (if not my all-time) favorite video games!

FF7 the great Japanese RPG ever made? Absolutely not. I enjoyed Final Fantasy VI, Lost Odyssey, Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy IX better than that and those games mentioned are great examples of compelling storytelling, in-depth characterization and great gameplay combined.

I'm no liberal (hardcore capitalist here), but I fail to see what's wrong with a story tackling things like environmental issues, possible corporate tyranny, and life after death, in a genius and often subtle manner. Most games are afraid to tell stories that have something to say, so we get game after game with shit stories.

You can disagree but the fact remains this was one of the top selling games along side Super Mario Bros. 3 until Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops took the title. This game made people open their eyes to the RPG genre and respect it. If not for this game their would be no Kingdom Hearts or many of the others. If I had not played this I probably would not be playing video games today and I'm 24 right now and have been playing since I was 7, so long live Final Fantasy 7.

the story, the emotion, and the cinematics, in combination with the So very intresting characters, Made this for me, The very best game today.
I could easily dare and bet to say that final fantasy has and will always be the Root for EVERY game to come. and that too is a fact.

I really dislike turned based RPGs.....BUT THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE GAMES EVER. I still have my original copy and will keep it forever. I love FF7. The story, characters, weapons, music, materia, visuals are all amazing.

@sinbysin666 While you may be right about most of the people who criticize it, this game does have its faults. Is it a good game? Yes. Is it the best Final Fantasy? That's debatable. I prefer IV, but to each his own. Is it the best RPG? Again, debatable. It would most likely be in the running. Is it the best game ever? I wouldn't say so.
