hason was BORN to be metall bassist(metallica's bassist as well) but he will never be able to do what Rob is doing. rob is like more funky bassist. he was on his place in infectious grooves, but i really like how metallica chenged after he came in.
Love Jason and his intensity but he couldn't carry Roberts gig bag, Robert is an amazing bassist and I have followed him since his days in Suicidal, Robert is up there only with Cliff as far as I am concerned, and I actually saw him with Metallica in the mid 80's and let me tell you I saw Metallica in the 90's and while it was good, the first time I saw Robert play with Metallica in 2004 I felt like I had taken a time machine back to 85 man, Robert is far better than Jason in technique period,
Cliff was an untimely loss, Jason was a sad loss in time and Roberto was the HAPPY end to a SAD loss. With all three METALLICA GAINED! What a rock band it would be nice for a COSTA RICA REPEAT!!!!

i think they are bot amazing in they're own way. Jason left the band after years of success and you can't fault him on his playing. Rob's great cos its closer to cliffs way of playing. Both are extremely good bassists with their own qualities. To the point I can't judge them on bass playing alone, and have to look at other things. Jason's stage presence I much preferred, and his vocal contributions make the modern Metallica live seem a bit weak...but hey, the past is the past, right? It's like fapping over the master, Cliff...but he's dead lol. He ain't comin' back.
Even if Jason was better, he suck because he left Metallica for those fucking reasons in the toughest times. Anyway, try to listen Rob playing flamenco ^^

For me Jason is better than Rob, why? ... Jason have more presence in concerts live look watch cunning stunts. the Jason solos are simply beautiful, look 'jason newsted bass solo san diego 1992'. Jason in backvocals is amazing look cunning stunts again, so... Jason is better than Rob.

Not really a fair comparison because the solos are completely different styles. Rob's is a lot heavier while Jason's is slower and mellow.

@mohitmetallicarai stupid he said "ive done personal damage to myself while playin the music i love" and thats not the reason y he left,he left cuz metallica was takin a long break frm music cuz they were spendin time with family and stuff,but jason never married cuz he just wants to play music(thats wat i call passion) so jason decided to do side projects,but james said this would weaken metallica so jason said "k then looks like this is it"

i think they are bot amazing in they're own way. Jason left the band after years of success and you can't fault him on his playing. Rob's great cos its closer to cliffs way of playing. Plus with rob they created death magnetic which is one of the finest albums i've ever heard. Got to say that jason's solo bit taken from 'my friend of misery' is too fucking good for words. the real answer is that metallica have never had a bad bass player

Both are extremely good bassists with their own qualities. To the point I can't judge them on bass playing alone, and have to look at other things. Jason's stage presence I much preferred, and his vocal contributions make the modern Metallica live seem a bit weak...but hey, the past is the past, right? It's like fapping over the master, Cliff...but he's dead lol. He ain't comin' back.

Even if Jason was better, he suck because he left Metallica for those fucking reasons in the toughest times. Anyway, try to listen Rob playing flamenco ^^
