@blackman4lyfe44 YES! and CM7 is the latest stable and I highly recommend it over CM6 which is 2.2 FroYo and CM7 is 2.3 Gingerbread. AND you CAN install apps to sdcard, So i recommend buying a class 6 or even (if you can) class 10 micro sdcard. if you use a class 2 (what comes with most phones) then apps to sd will be REALLY slow.

@AllensWorld2 DUDE, CM7 actually MAKES THIS PHONE USABLE! it's actually OK and bearable.... I simply can't use this phone without it! plus you have root, wifi tether FOR FREE, and other root apps like Titanium backup and backup your stuff! like your angry birds game saves.

@ericomega88 you have to figure that out on your own. put your micro sd card in an adapter and put it in a friends computer. I don't know buddy.

@ericomega88 NO! You do NOT need a computer. YOU do need to figure out how to get z4root on your sdcard and then install it from your phone. It will root your phone. Then you install rom manager from the market. if you buy the pro version, you will NOT need a computer to download the rom AND it notifies you of updates. If you get the free version, you need to download the TWO zips from the cyanogen sites and transfer them to your sdcard & then go to Rom Manager and chose install rom from sdcard

@Lyricalassasins860 because the directions state to download TWO update.zips. one of them being the google apps. the cyanogen site even says you need them for the market, gmail, and etc. you need to go back to the link and download the zip that was right under the zip you used to update your phone

@skaterkirk1 download the google addons pack dude! The forum that you downloaded the ROM from (6.1 Stable is out now!) has the google addons update.zip right below it.

Now it's stable and when you click my link, you download the 6.1 update PLUS you download the google addons update.zip. first put 6.1 on your phone, then boot to system, then to recovery and apply the google addons by flashing it as an update.zip

I have rooted my htc hero with the z4root...(Next Step) I have downloaded ans install Rom manager from the market...when i go into Rom manager I dont see where it says "Install Recovery" but i do see "Reboot to recovery" and when my phoone reboot ro recovery it shows a black phone with a red sign and you please tell me what I am doing wrong

@quantell843 You have to install clockwork recovery through rom manager. Look up on youtube, I am sure someone has instructions on how to install recovery. If I had another hero, I would record the whole process.

@quantell843 NO! Just one. Either the Experimental or Stable release. The third link is for the Droid. And I WILL APPROVE your comment. I wasn't able to get to the computer right as your submitted your comment. You choose CM 6.0 or 6.1 and load it to your sd card AFTER you use z4root in the marketplace to root your phone. Then download and install ROM Manager from the marketplace and then choose "Install Recovery". Reboot to recovery, clear Dalvik cache, WIPE YOUR PHONE, and install update.zip
