I'm a singer who has studied Lou Gramm's voice. He had this amazing punch power and and tone and sang a half step higher than Kelly which contributes to a brighter sounding vocal. Many of Lou's songs are very vocally demanding on the singer. As a singer Kelly is great.
Its so funny you wrote this because I just watched a vid on youtube of Foreigner (the "new Foreigner"), and Kelly and 2 other band mates are playing Guitar Hero, and you could hear that the vocals are off and Kelly give the mic to someone else when the real high part comes in, its definitive proof that Lou has greater range and his voice just has some thing about it!
Truth is: this Kelly guy is a great singer and under any other circumstances everyone would love him, but we're all used to Lou and he's so impossible to follow up. Srry about your luck Kelly! =D

Which we may or may not see in this lifetime.

A latest history of the band..I do know that lead singer Lou Gramm has had bigtime medical experiences that ended up leaving him unable to sing very well anymore. I do believe Mick Jones did try a tour with Lou before. I do think Mick should let it go though with the new band lineup. Mick is a top of the line producer and songwriter and could easily pay bills doing that and respect Lou in that reguard. The other members could get construction jobs (like me) and get over it.
