1988 he announced he was moving up in weight to pursue the world heavyweight crown held by Tyson. His first fight as a Heavyweight took place on July 16, James "Quick" Tillis by a knockout in five(Tillis had gone the distance with Tyson). He was undefeated and had all the cruiserweight belts. Then in 89 he took out dokes, stewart, and rodriguez. By this time, Holyfield had been Ring Magazine's Number 1 contender for two years and had yet to receive a shot at Tyson's heavyweight title.

Tyson had many opportunities to fight holyfield in the 80's. Holyfield wanted to fight Tyson long before he took out Dokes, and Holyfield was in his prime in the 80's not the 90's. The only reason people think his prime was the 90's is because thats when he ran into Bowe, another real competitor Holyfield fought PAST his prime.
Holyfield actively sought a match and called out tyson after his fights, how are you going to say Holyfield ducked Tyson. He wouldn't eve duck him in his 40's...

I don't believe Holyfield would ever duck Tyson but I don't think Tyson did either. No matter what was taking place...Holyfield was never going to get in the way of Tyson getting Spinks in the ring. After that, any match could be made.
Now the problem with Holyfield was that he was still being built up as a threat despite people mentioning his name as the best threat. But with Duva, it needed more time.

Cayton and Rooney both mentioned Holyfield as the next big fight and wanted it. Of course that went to shit when Tyson got rid of them. Then King took over and it took a lot more time. Of course Tyson continued to screw it up by losing to Douglas then going to jail after he earned his position back after beating Ruddock.

lol Tyson literally didn't train for that fight, his sparing partner dropped him, Tyson said himself he didn't train for that fight and never took it serious. and Douglas dedicated that fight to his mother so you know he was giving it everything he had, then he came in fat and over weight when he lost to evander then retired and gained over 300lbs and almost died in a diabetic coma these are all facts. just watch the movie Tyson.
