He wasn't disqualified because he was afraid to jump so having jumped 171 ft before doesnt matter.

He was disqualified because he left the track in pursuit of an unfair advantage, could've run people over and risked a car on car accident at that crossing.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know you can't accelerate with your wheels in the air so whoever doesnt take that jump is at a huge advantage to those who do. Thats why rally drivers brake cresting a hill rather than going for big air
