South Africans abroad should be allowed to vote, the Pretoria High Court ruled on Monday.
Handing down judgement, Acting Judge Piet Ebersohn ruled that the current legislation infringed on the rights of South Africans living abroad.
The court ruled that the electoral Act "limited" the casting of votes to people temporarily living abroad. It referred the judgement to the Constitutional Court for confirmation.
Most countries allow their citizens to vote no matter where they are based. If South Africa is the beacon of democracy then how can they do this? We want to vote, we want our voices to be heard - South Africa is our country too.
The struggle is over, we need to build our country and everyone has a part to play
•The IEC and government cannot continue to ignore the call of the number of the South Africans who want to vote abroad regardless of their political background and the colour of their skin.
•It seems that we need to remind the IEC our grandparents who had sculpted this South African democracy. Lets make the promise of our Constitution work for all of us: black and white, men and women, irrespective of their political beliefs or choices.
•Our hope is simple: We want to vote! We are entitled to vote. Three elections later, the IEC must come to the party. They have been complaining that South Africans must not be apathetic and must vote.
•Ironically here we have millions, willing and ready to vote and yet we are being ignored.
It's a good idea, it is our democratic right as South African's to vote but the guy in the video is a dissapointment, there may be a bigger number of people attending if the guy coud speak properly. No offence.
We at SAYFA are taking this very seriously! We want to vote abroad. You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word is Victory! Victory at all cost!
The fact that Dr Brigalia Bam, head of the Independent Electoral Commission, is giving positive consideration to the request that South Africans living overseas be allowed to vote in next years general election is good.
For us, however the key question is not just about receiving consideration. We need to see concrete results. We want the IEC to announce the dates for registration abroad. We want to know that as South African living abroad, that we will vote in the 2009 elections.
In this Global World South Africans are not limited to the boundaries of our country, Let your voice be heard. I hope South Africans abroad respond to SAYFA call to join us in the march. See you there!
Let's get out and vote! Let's make our voices heard!
We've been given the right to choose between a douche and a turd.
It's democracy in action! Put your freedom to the test.
A big fat turd or a stupid douche. Which do you like best?

Theocfan2, Thank you for your comment.
•Q: What does SAYFA hope to achieve with this?
