  • A modern rendition the background awareness of which clearly sounds distorted of original intent by later accretions and favoured strategisms of latter day murder group systemologists, albeit one's I reccognize as Australian. (BTW, is this Russel Morris or just one of an on-going series of body doubles?)

  • Real Revival of Seventies Superb Songs,

    Nother Nice Number.

    Explosive Entertainment.

  • Pete Robinson from Electric Mary on the guitars, He's really gettin' around these days.

The talent on that stage is mind-blowing.

  • straining to hear I am the Walrus ? Mebbe if i go club some baby seals the connection will become clear

  • Russell Morris - "The Real Thing" an Aussie Legend

  • It was written by Johnny Young and produced by Ian "Molly" Meldrum, who having been influenced by his association with the Beatles as a reporter for Go-Set magazine, applied some of the tricks he learned while in England......or so Molly said.

  • What a voice....better than his original IMO

  • Russell Morris has a god-gifted voice. It's beautiful.

  • Aussie legend,..,Real legend AND THE REAL THING!!!!

  • These Old Rockers have still got it. They can show the youngsters how to do it

  • good to hear that this song is still going.

  • Such an epic ending!!!!

  • we need to see more of you russell............

  • As fresh as the original from '69 ........if not better

  • Johnny Young!

  • Thanks Peter really enjoyed this. He still has a great voice. Good on him.

  • And again...Amazing please tour NZ!! fantastic!!!!!!!

  • Absolutely BRILLIANT.

  • I've seen Russell perform quite a few times over the years and I agree he just gets better with age..awesome!!!

  • @scorpj64 just close yr eyes and enjoy the moment ,such excellence.

  • May be missing something .. What year is this ? ( soryy DUHHH if if it missed something) He sounds even better the the '69 original ( oh what happened to the hair ? ) :- ) ROCK ON RUSS !!!

  • Well done russel keep it up. Cheers mate

  • Strange then that Russel did also the cover of I am the walrus ... no doubt they all love the beatles and got them as a shock in the 60'... anyway, his real thing sounds more than pure aussie Rock with melb' blues influences ...

  • Sounds like a few people are getting their oo mow mow mows confused with their googoogajoobs. This song is NOTHING like I Am The Walrus. It's an Australian psychelic classic in its own right - and it reached Number 1 in Australia which I Am The Walrus never did ;) (and I can say that because I'm a huge Beatles fan as well)

  • I think you will find striking similarities in the chord progressions of Real Thing and Walrus.

My guess is Mr Young just strummed the chords to Walrus and and came up with this -Ok the melody is not exactly the same but the feel and chords are

    Doesn't mean it isn't a good song

  • Too much Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds for you.

  • Legend... 'nuff said

  • brilliant

  • I am the Walrus ? the vibrations sent are more than totally different ... closer to the zen's aum ...

  • Actually, Russell said on the night that I am the walrus was an influence in the song. Totally original none the less.

  • That was beautiful

  • Brilliant ~ simnply brilliant and this was no based on anything other tan Down Under ANZAC music

  • This is obviously based on the beatles I am the walrus - wonder if there was every legal action taken

  • My gawd i used to wear a Russell Morris t-shirt.lol.

  • I am the sea in you. COME, see the real thing! Love it!

  • Awesome,,,,thx for posting this classic,,,much appreciated,,,,,,,,it still rocks and rocks and rocks

  • still ROCKS!!!!

  • Wow man, this stuff rocks! I love this acoustic version, sung by the same person all those years later... He's stilll got it!

  • oh noes, wish I'd known at the time, I would have gone to see them :(

  • Wow. I love this song even more.

  • Good song, great song but I wish Brian Cadd was there in the Background

  • where's your hair?

  • Being a Midnight Oil fan I like their cover but you can't beat Russell Morris this is THE Real Thing!

  • omg i couldnt beleive ghow much this shat over the original vidio clip version..

    I am the real... thing!

  • I had this song on cassette, I used to listen to it in the car on my tinny sound system. Over the years the tape stretched and it sounded like someone had dropped something in your coffee...lol. This is a much better version. Thanks for sharing.

  • I saw him at Trubute08 for the Vietnam Vets in Wellington last month. Hes still got it. Great!

  • This was written for him by Johnny Young from Young Talent Time.

  • Actually it was written for Robbie Burns

  • er... you mean Ronnie Burns ..it was also produced by Molly Meldrum

  • I humbly apologize. You are quite right.Just a typo and i posted without re reading.

  • (-:

  • shame he sold this to that fruit add.

all i got in my head is golden valley.

    and oh yummy yum yum

  • Two guitars and simple drums... Superb!

  • WOW! Still can hit the notes and play the guitar!! This song is psychedelic- soul revealing/expanding- in the best sense!

  • @mackb909 Hi just on your comment on the psychedelic effect wasn't done by placing a finger on the 'real to real' tape

  • Excellent !!!

  • I loved the 1969 version of this song, but this is much better. Mate he's great live!!!!!! The acustic guitar work is amazing!!! Knock your socks off stuff.

  • Wow!...from the Back of a Truck at the Dandenong Hospital to a Video on You Tube...Russel you still Rock my Socks...

Clint - Dandenong 48 years later!

  • unreal Orange Peel

  • Just saw this on a WA advert - tracked it down to here. Thanks for posting, as a Pom didn't even know about this guy until now.

Shows the power of advertising - now I want to get to know the rest of his music AND visit Perth!

  • wow "the real thing" on an acoustic guitar and he really hits the notes, awesome stuff!

  • Russell is like good wine, he gets better with age. Seen him perform a number of time and is great every time

  • He's a real aussie talent this man.

  • This man is my Idol! I was there that night at capers when this was filmed. I could see Russ in concert every night and not get tired of it.

  • Hi Russell
