It's an Australian psychelic classic in its own right - and it reached Number 1 in Australia which I Am The Walrus never did ;) (and I can say that because I'm a huge Beatles fan as well)

I think you will find striking similarities in the chord progressions of Real Thing and Walrus.

My guess is Mr Young just strummed the chords to Walrus and and came up with this -Ok the melody is not exactly the same but the feel and chords are
