"Both Jackie and Elvis had a great admiration for each other. Why can't we just appreciate that?"
So true. For all those who must bring race into it, the fifth Beatle was black, The Jimi Hendrix Experience was white, Merry Clayton with the Stones and those Alabama boys, the Stax and Motown bands - do we see a pattern?
This is so much better than the material he recorded in the 1960's. I don't understand why he changed, he had such a tremendous vocal range. The boring 60's soul did not do his voice justice.

Sad, but true. Motown changed it all!
im an african american man. 40 years old and although i agree jackie was one of elvis's inspiration, he was by no means the only one and .I love Jackie ! but elvis is no carbon copy of anyone.
Elvis Presley is a corbon copy of many blackS that came before him. Alot of blacks song like Elvis and Jackie before they both started singing, but Jackie is no corbon copy, becouse he is black, and that voice is a common black sound!

When Elvis died he only had $4million. His ex-wife opened up Graceland and created the Elvis that even Elvis didn't imagine possible! A multi-million dollar EMPIRE!
Elvis was hangin out with Blues singers WHO DON'T EVEN DANCE! LOL...he copied his moves from the black teens at the time. People can copy younger people because its the young kids that do alla da dancing. Elvis was deeply immersed into Black culture because he could relate to blacks (he was very poor). He's like Eminem is today. a poor white trash kid that made it big, but Elvis hit his highest pinnacle of success post humous.
jackie wilson is older then elvis soo what u saidd below me makes no sense...even down to the way jackie wilson wears his hair elvis copied dammnnnnn!!!! the white man was soooo evil back then that even now they cant except the simple facts
Sweetie acceptance is the last thing many want to accept. The fact that many Blacks made music that was later copied, even down to the album covered of Wbites is something many will not accept. History is something many do not want to venture, so what they are able to see right now is the acceptance, but to venture into the past would be more devastating to many, that what they THINK was done by there peers, was done by Blacks. Many took credit for doing so. It's the pass. Accceptanceis thekey.
jackie wilson is older then elvis soo what u saidd below me makes no sense...even down to the way jackie wilson wears his hair elvis copied dammnnnnn!!!! the white man was soooo evil back then that even now they cant except the simple facts
For any and everyone claiming Elvis stole his moves from Jackie Wilson...quoting Mr. Wilson himself: "A lot of people have accused Elvis of stealing the black man's music, when in fact, almost every black solo entertainer copied his stage mannerisms from Elvis." A bit of an epilogue, Elvis hit big with his dances while Jackie was still a teenager in Detroit.
Stop lying. That is all that is going to be said. Jackie was OLDER than Elvis! White men COULD NOT DANCE THEN OR NOW!! Elvis acted like a drunk man trying to shake piss off his legs. He was no dancer at all. He had NO rhythm. You could see that later in his career. Jackie NEVER lost a step. That is all.
um you gotta look into your dates, jackie was in the dominoes from late 52 early 53 while ELVIS was a teenager in high school, and on top of that there is a much published session of elvis talking about wilson while he was in vegas with the dominoes from the million dollar quartet session.
Why all this racist crap talk!!! Elvis was inspired of the jackie style dance so he even asked jackie to show him some moves witch he did to! They were each others idols! Jackie even said to Elvis to eat saltpills before the concerts to sweat moore, it drives the chicks wild he said! And if Jackie was greater than Elvis, why oh why dident the fans buy more Jackie records uh! It is we the fans that decides the history of our stars!
That's why I said the gave the good material to Elvis. Jackie was given a few good songs but nothing extraordinary to launch his career. It seems to me he was pushed to the back while the spotlight was placed on Elvis. They both had talent and deserved recognition, but Elvis copied Jackie's style of singing and dancing as it it was his own. It's tragic.
thats right and everbody knows in them days how hard it was to be a negro singer. back then every black man or women who mad a hit there was a white version to that song wich got pushed more because of race issues.
everbody knows in them days how hard it was to be a negro singer. back then every black man or women who mad a hit there was a white version to that song wich got pushed more because of race issues.
the moviw five haeartbeats bird was based on jackie wilson because jackie wilson was dangled out a window for questioning his royalties and wanting to leave his label
It does make me mad that Jackie was not as popular as Elvis. He had the talent! I guess it was because of his race and that is so unfair. Back then - if someone would have given me both an Elvis ticket and a Jackie ticket for seperate concerts being held the same time, same day - I'd run to see Jackie!:)
I don't know why you guy's have to compare Elvis and Jackie. They're both good and you can decide for yourself who you like best. But I have to say Jackie has a shortage of good material.
Elvis was good, no doubt about it - BUT I like Jackie! Jackie had a fantastic strong voice! Elvis did not do a bad acting job in "Love Me Tender" Still not much of an actor but the guy could sing and dance - a bit. Jackie was better at singing and dancing in my opinion. :) He should have been as famous as Elvis! Go figure. Looks maybe had something to do with it and race too. Those were the times back then :(
Elvis went to the Black part of Memphis to buy his clothes, haircuts and records. He didn't create anything onstage, and simply copied Black artists who never got the exposure he did. The Brits did the same thing, but, at least they had the dignity to acknowledge where they first got their music from.
Elvis surrounded himself w/ Black cultrue until he was famous. Then, the only Blacks around him worked for him.
I really feel Jackie had more style, soul and just made me perk up so much more than Elvis. I really hate to compare but since people are this is my opinion. THanks!!!!
RIP Jackie, I will never forget you and what you did for music!!!
@thurmale67 We havent heard from Bobby Brown for years, Usher took alot of notes from Jackie Wilson, Ginuwine wasn't even close to Jackie Wilson, Justin Tmberlake learned from Mj, Mj learned from Jackie so technally he took notes, and Chris Brown made his own style in a way.
I'm so glad you posted this video! I wasn't around when Jackie was performing, but my mom and aunts grew up listening to him. As a result I love his music and have a could of cd's. He suffered a lot before he died, but his legend lives on.
SORRY GUYS: Here is the Truth ( to some like myself an Elvis Fan ) it may hurt. I also read that Elvis paid some of his Bills but thanks to reading a new Bio on Jackie and confirmed by his Wife and Dick Clark Elvis did not pay for anything. His fall on Stage was covered by Dick clark through Workers Compensation and he never needed money. Jackie is quoted as saying " I guess Elvis took a little from me and I took a little from Elvis .. we all did.
Guys..both Elvis and Jackie were great, THAT we must agree..well, just to record straight, here's a quote from Jackie Wilson.."A lot of people have accused Elvis of stealing the black man's music, when in fact, almost every black solo entertainer copied his stage mannerisms from Elvis"..Oh ya, one more thing, Elvis paid for Jackie's medical expenses while he was in the hospital, not his funeral as Elvis left us in 1977.
If that quote from Jackie Wilson is accurate then Jackie Wilson was lying or Uncle Tomming. The "stage mannerisms" as you quote pre-dated both Elvis AND Jackie Wilson. They go back as far as Black performers of the early 1920's. Elvis was not around then now was he so this suposed "quote" does not add up.
The greatest Jackie Wilson performance is described brilliantly by Elvis Presley on the "Million Dollar Quartet" cd when he explains(and demonstrates) how Jackie rocked through a version of "Don't Be Cruel"!!!
i love jackie wilson and he was a man of the times smooth and can sing his ass off it was sad when he past in 1984 a month i think after marvin gaye for those who are not familiar, if not maybe it would be a great idea to learn about r&b from those eras and see how it hasn't much change for soul singers who no matter what their age knows and love these artist, they live on
people should learn not burn ask the best our grandparents those who were raised on r&b, soul, blues and more......
i don't about all this stuff these people are saying on the comments, but what i've read, it's ugly stuff. what i do want to do is thank you for this great video of jackie, i loved it and especially jackie.
videosar aka Jackson ass kisser - YOu have no arguments. So let me get this straight - we can't get info from papers, tv or books so then WHERE THE F ARE WE SUPPOSE TO GET IT FROM THEN? Are we suppose to go out and investigate each and every story OURSELVES???? ahhhhhhhh soo so funny!!!!!! So I guess that's what you do huh? Well how do you find all that time and money to fly all over and get your own info? roflmao!
You're so funny AND stupid. You say nobody can get info from press or books yet you turn around and say you read 8 books. roflmao!!! You're so funny. so you DO get your info from books. How do you know that I don't? you are funny.
videosar - how the f do you know what I know about the guy? So you think you're the only one that reads books? I read more books than you and know more so dont' think cause you read a few books you're the expert and nobody else knows anything.
Come on you don't have no arguments. I've read books on the freak too for the freak factor so how don't go thinking you're the only one that knows about the freak. I wouldn't go around telling people you read 8 books on the freak. I'ld keep that a secret bozo
They interviewd the guy on tv idiot. Yea - you're probably hoping Jackson diddles you. He would except your not a pubescent kid. Why does he stop being friends with pubescent kids once they get a few years older? Would you let YOUR kids hang with him? Pathetic.
You have no arguments at all. I cited several sources - jackson's chief of security alleges that things were going on. You never answered about the "alarm" system. lol! The magazines are reporting what others say. Why's he never with women? roflmao you are so silly.
videosar - roflmao!!! Yea NOW you got it! The point was you cant say someone's not guilty just because court said so!! Oj was guilty so you saying Jackson isn't doesn't prove it only legally.
Jerk-you're the one who states he was found not guilty as proof but then I shot holes in that fallacy defense by citing oj and we all know sure as hell HE IS GUILTY. Oh- I suppose you probably are a fan of his too right? I'm not surprised. JACKSON'S A FREAK. ONLY GOOD THING HE DID WAS LEAVE THE COUNTRY.
You don't get that what the media says IS often right. How about his head of security? Would you beleive HIM? He said stuff was going on that he didn't think was right. WHY DID THE FREAK HAVE AN ALARM OUTSIDE HIS BEDROOM. WHY DID LISA MARIE say she didn't like the things she saw? That's not the media but I saw them give their accouts verbatim. What about Latoya? I've given plenty of examples. So where do YOU get your info from? Like you got your own source of info? I DON'T THINK SO!!!!!!
Listen - was OJ guilty or not? Answer that question. Then stop citing fact some holluwood ass kissers like you were on the jury and so gave him fee pass cause he was a celebrity. THEY DID SLEEP IN SAME BE DIPSHIT. THEY BOTH SAID So. Listen - he's a no good lousey FREAK even if he didn't suck the kid off but where there's smoke there's usually fire. YOu are so naive and gullible.
Yea so did OJ and lots of other people get acquited. So what? That doesn't prove anything. YOu are in love with a FREAK-A-ZOID of the first magnitude.e
Listen - there's NO DOUBT that he prefers little male children OVER WOMEN. What women have you ever seen him with besides his shame of 2 marriages? He's admitted that there were kids sleeping in his bed. Just cause he wasn't convicted doesn't mean anything. Why did he have alarms OUTSIDE HIS ROOM? He OJ was found not guilty to so stop citing that as defense.
Oh I hit the wrong button by mistake. Sorry. Re: proof - JACKSON ADMITTED HE SLEPT WITH KIDS. If it walks like a duck and looks like a duck it usually is. LaToya said it was true. No normal man his age has the type of relationship with kids. Says lots about your character that you don't care what the freak does off stage. FREAKKKKKKKKKKK LOVER
Michael Jackson BLOWS and plays with little children and has them sleep in their bed. He's a disgrace. I'll talk crap about him as much as I want cause it's deserved. His sister LaToya originally said the child molest allegations were true. Why would you like a FREAK like Jackson. He's no role model.
Elvis didn't tailor himself after anyone. Elvis was an original. Elvis did admire Jackie but he was unique. The only thing these two have in common is they were great entertainers.
You gotta be kidding me Don't you see similarities. Original. Are you sick? Don't justify "finding a white boy who can sing black" with your trife. Before Elvis that kind of music and moves weren't even acceptable in White America (it was called race music). Take your blinders off and start reading your history before you post puke. Ask Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Big Momma Thornton, Jackie Wilson if Elvis was an original.
You have got to be kidding me-tell me how they are similar? So know you gotta play the race card huh. I know all about the history of the music probably more than you. Where did I justify anything about Elvis? I just don't think they sing the same. They were same age and Elvis hit it big in 56 so how could Jackie have influenced him before then? I don't know what year jackie hit it big but it couldn't have been much before then.
Are you sick or just fing retarded? Elvis's moves and music were not accepted by the establishment when he first came out. The kids yes but not the establishment. You better take your blinders off and read up on your history cause Elvis was an outcast and a rebel except with the kids. I know more about music history and have read more than you so who the f are you to lecture me with stuff I already know? lol! You are funny.
No you are not black. Secondly, I don't care if he wasn't accepted or not by the white community, if he wasn't, I doubt didn't last too long. I could care less. My point is, this music, the edgy ness, and the rebel behavior -- all which has been around way before Elvis.
How the freak do you know what color I am? wtf? Re: You don't care - well YOU were the one saying he was so then why did you say it? Nobody said the edginess WASN'T around. The people who invented blues ARE THE ONLY ORIGINALS. Everyone BLACK and WHITE patterned themselves after original innovators so why did you single only Elvis out? Chuck Berry etc all those people built on what came before. So I don't know why Elvis is suppose to be diminished for doing same.
My point is rock and roll music was born out of the black community.
Secondly, I'm singling Elvis out because when people (a lot, not all, White America) talk of him, they anoint labels to him and forget about the people who were doing it way before him and fail to pay homage to the creators and genres (blues) that birthed rock N roll.
Yes - it WAS born out of the black community. I think what you are saying about Elvis getting all the credit is something occurred in old days but EVERY documentary, music show I see nowdays PROPERLY notes that Elvis style was drawn from blues "Black" performers. I hardly think it's a secret or not recognized now. Can you name some instances where ANYONE is saying Elvis's style WASN'T based on black/blues performers?
kimvaterra, another point - I've read MANY books about Elvis. ALL of them properly NOTE that his style was drawn from Beal Street BLACK performers so I don't know why you say his roots are not acknowledged. It's 2007 and Affirmative action has come full circle (now-it's being done away with) so there's been great strides made and no history FAILS to mention where the music came from. I think the world has acknowledged the roots of rock and roll is from black community so you should be happy
1. I'm happy. But more can be done in my opinion to shed more light on the old time genres and their practitioners that did not have the benefit of today's technology and freedom. I've recently gained an appreciation for Elvis, but there is a little hesitation in my mind when mainstream America likes a certain genre, they take it and run with it.
yesdidn't have tv,etc like we got now those old guys who started it all-forgotten Why don't you write a book, put up a website? see what video DOES exist & put up here. Why not have your OWN CHANNEL titled "Architects of Rock and Roll"?Indians complain not much done to honor them at Little Big Horn battlefield but I say - well then hell THEY SHOULD DO SOMETHING. Eventually they built their own monument. So you should do the same. What have YOU done?
2. They tend to skew its origins, at least in the old days. But those wrongs are being righted today. That is why rap/hip-hop and newer genres and styles will never be debated as to where it came from. Due in fact to technological advances, and civil rights growths - even though most print and TV medium are own by the mainstream. I just needed to say this. On another note, how bout that Jackie Wilson fella'?
kimvaterra, yea- jackie is the man. I would have liked to see him live. Jackie is cool. I'm sad he died the way he did. I think the f'er Tarnapool poisened him. I want to see if I can find tv shows, concert shows etc that I can buy. That vid here of "Higher& Higher" is great but they spend too much time NOT showing Jackie. Jackie had the moves but I read he didn't really dance except on stage. don't know if that's true
People like you are scared to know the truth, because it shines a whole new light on the way of thinking in regards to black music and its profound effect on the world.
How do you get to "scared to know the truth" from me saying I don't think their styles are all that much alike. When did Elvis sing opera? How do you know I'M NOT BLACK?? WTF? I well know the history. Yea Elvis picked the blues up from Beal street. He had his own style based on blues. So Little Richard, Chuck Berry didn't INVENT the blues people BEFORE THEM did so I guess they copied their predecessors too. Elvis was the first white guy to do it. So what?
Kimvaterre, "shines a whole new light" roflmao! How old are you? Are you JUST finding this out? It's hardly a secret and is WELL KNOWN fact and IS OFTEN CITED. Everyone knows Elvis's style grew out of the blues. Nobody's hiding it - it's ALWAYS mentioned. If you want to say that Robert Johnson was an original and all those old guys fine but everyone else BLACK AND WHITE copied their forefathers. So what?
I think the mob poisoned him and that's how come he fell on stage. He was mobbed up in his career. I don't know all the details but he was definitly controlled by mob I think he eventually broke free but I bet those sob's killed him jus like they killed Sonny Liston.
An prime example that Jackie Wilson is one of the all-time greats...a true musical legendary giant who hit the top the same time as Elvis and should be remembered the same way...they were both groundbreaking legends and appreciated each others amazing talent...both of these musical wonders were gone too soon!
jackie wilson is one of the greatest singers in the world. I played ''To Be Loved'' at my dads funeral. what a great TALENT. R.I.P , NO MORE LONLEY TEARDROPS.
The 50s and 60s and 70s were the decades ,when the greatest talents the world has /will ever see walked on earth. No better example can be found than this forgotten legend.

These Wankers who know nothing about Rock and Roll should
know, Elvis not only incorporated R&B into his Style but
Country as well. Also alot of the original versions were
sporadic and not in any kind of tempo as his cover version.
As far as him not be able to dance, you should of talked to
his FRIENDS: Jackie Wilson, James Brown, Roy Hamilton..
and as far as copied hairstyles...it was Tony Curtis...another

Sweetie acceptance is the last thing many want to accept. The fact that many Blacks made music that was later copied, even down to the album covered of Wbites is something many will not accept. History is something many do not want to venture, so what they are able to see right now is the acceptance, but to venture into the past would be more devastating to many, that what they THINK was done by there peers, was done by Blacks. Many took credit for doing so. It's the pass. Accceptanceis thekey.

Jackie is quoted as saying " I guess Elvis took a little from me and I took a little from Elvis .. we all did.
rstandmartin 4 years ago
Guys..both Elvis and Jackie were great, THAT we must agree..well, just to record straight, here's a quote from Jackie Wilson.."A lot of people have accused Elvis of stealing the black man's music, when in fact, almost every black solo entertainer copied his stage mannerisms from Elvis"..Oh ya, one more thing, Elvis paid for Jackie's medical expenses while he was in the hospital, not his funeral as Elvis left us in 1977.
aljufrey 4 years ago
If that quote from Jackie Wilson is accurate then Jackie Wilson was lying or Uncle Tomming. The "stage mannerisms" as you quote pre-dated both Elvis AND Jackie Wilson. They go back as far as Black performers of the early 1920's. Elvis was not around then now was he so this suposed "quote" does not add up.
ShaggaKhan 4 years ago
The greatest Jackie Wilson performance is described brilliantly by Elvis Presley on the "Million Dollar Quartet" cd when he explains(and demonstrates) how Jackie rocked through a version of "Don't Be Cruel"!!!

i love jackie wilson and he was a man of the times smooth and can sing his ass off it was sad when he past in 1984 a month i think after marvin gaye for those who are not familiar, if not maybe it would be a great idea to learn about r&b from those eras and see how it hasn't much change for soul singers who no matter what their age knows and love these artist, they live on
people should learn not burn ask the best our grandparents those who were raised on r&b, soul, blues and more......

videosar aka Jackson ass kisser - YOu have no arguments. Well how do you find all that time and money to fly all over and get your own info? roflmao!
artistknownasbeavis 4 years ago
You're so funny AND stupid. You say nobody can get info from press or books yet you turn around and say you read 8 books. roflmao!!! You're so funny. so you DO get your info from books. How do you know that I don't? you are funny.
artistknownasbeavis 4 years ago
videosar - how the f do you know what I know about the guy? So you think you're the only one that reads books? I read more books than you and know more so dont' think cause you read a few books you're the expert and nobody else knows anything.
artistknownasbeavis 4 years ago
Come on you don't have no arguments. I've read books on the freak too for the freak factor so how don't go thinking you're the only one that knows about the freak. I wouldn't go around telling people you read 8 books on the freak. I'ld keep that a secret bozo
artistknownasbeavis 4 years ago
They interviewd the guy on tv idiot. Yea - you're probably hoping Jackson diddles you. He would except your not a pubescent kid. Why does he stop being friends with pubescent kids once they get a few years older? Would you let YOUR kids hang with him? Pathetic.
artistknownasbeavis 4 years ago
You have no arguments at all. I cited several sources - jackson's chief of security alleges that things were going on. You never answered about the "alarm" system. lol! The magazines are reporting what others say. Why's he never with women? roflmao you are so silly.
artistknownasbeavis 4 years ago
videosar - roflmao!!! Yea NOW you got it! The point was you cant say someone's not guilty just because court said so!! Oj was guilty so you saying Jackson isn't doesn't prove it only legally.
artistknownasbeavis 4 years ago
Jerk-you're the one who states he was found not guilty as proof but then I shot holes in that fallacy defense by citing oj and we all know sure as hell HE IS GUILTY. Oh- I suppose you probably are a fan of his too right? I'm not surprised. JACKSON'S A FREAK. ONLY GOOD THING HE DID WAS LEAVE THE COUNTRY.
artistknownasbeavis 4 years ago
You don't get that what the media says IS often right. How about his head of security? Would you beleive HIM? He said stuff was going on that he didn't think was right. WHY DID THE FREAK HAVE AN ALARM OUTSIDE HIS BEDROOM. WHY DID LISA MARIE say she didn't like the things she saw? That's not the media but I saw them give their accouts verbatim. What about Latoya? I've given plenty of examples. So where do YOU get your info from? Like you got your own source of info? I DON'T THINK SO!!!!!!
artistknownasbeavis 4 years ago
Listen - was OJ guilty or not? Answer that question. Then stop citing fact some holluwood ass kissers like you were on the jury and so gave him fee pass cause he was a celebrity. THEY DID SLEEP IN SAME BE DIPSHIT. THEY BOTH SAID So. Listen - he's a no good lousey FREAK even if he didn't suck the kid off but where there's smoke there's usually fire. YOu are so naive and gullible.
artistknownasbeavis 4 years ago
Yea so did OJ and lots of other people get acquited. So what? That doesn't prove anything. YOu are in love with a FREAK-A-ZOID of the first magnitude.e
artistknownasbeavis 4 years ago
Listen - there's NO DOUBT that he prefers little male children OVER WOMEN. What women have you ever seen him with besides his shame of 2 marriages? He's admitted that there were kids sleeping in his bed. Just cause he wasn't convicted doesn't mean anything. Why did he have alarms OUTSIDE HIS ROOM? He OJ was found not guilty to so stop citing that as defense.
artistknownasbeavis 4 years ago
Oh I hit the wrong button by mistake. Sorry. Re: proof - JACKSON ADMITTED HE SLEPT WITH KIDS. If it walks like a duck and looks like a duck it usually is. LaToya said it was true. No normal man his age has the type of relationship with kids. Says lots about your character that you don't care what the freak does off stage. FREAKKKKKKKKKKK LOVER
artistknownasbeavis 4 years ago
Michael Jackson BLOWS and plays with little children and has them sleep in their bed. He's a disgrace. I'll talk crap about him as much as I want cause it's deserved. His sister LaToya originally said the child molest allegations were true. Why would you like a FREAK like Jackson. He's no role model.

This the guy (Jackie Wilson), Elvis tailored himself after.
kimvaterra 4 years ago
Elvis didn't tailor himself after anyone. Elvis was an original. Elvis did admire Jackie but he was unique. The only thing these two have in common is they were great entertainers.
artistknownasbeavis 4 years ago
You gotta be kidding me Don't you see similarities. Original. Are you sick? Don't justify "finding a white boy who can sing black" with your trife. Before Elvis that kind of music and moves weren't even acceptable in White America (it was called race music). Take your blinders off and start reading your history before you post puke. Ask Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Big Momma Thornton, Jackie Wilson if Elvis was an original.
kimvaterra 4 years ago
You have got to be kidding me-tell me how they are similar? So know you gotta play the race card huh. I know all about the history of the music probably more than you. Where did I justify anything about Elvis? I just don't think they sing the same. They were same age and Elvis hit it big in 56 so how could Jackie have influenced him before then? I don't know what year jackie hit it big but it couldn't have been much before then.
artistknownasbeavis 4 years ago
Are you sick or just fing retarded? Elvis's moves and music were not accepted by the establishment when he first came out. The kids yes but not the establishment. You better take your blinders off and read up on your history cause Elvis was an outcast and a rebel except with the kids. I know more about music history and have read more than you so who the f are you to lecture me with stuff I already know? lol! You are funny.
artistknownasbeavis 4 years ago
No you are not black. Secondly, I don't care if he wasn't accepted or not by the white community, if he wasn't, I doubt didn't last too long. I could care less. My point is, this music, the edgy ness, and the rebel behavior -- all which has been around way before Elvis.
kimvaterra 4 years ago
How the freak do you know what color I am? wtf? Re: You don't care - well YOU were the one saying he was so then why did you say it? Nobody said the edginess WASN'T around. The people who invented blues ARE THE ONLY ORIGINALS. Everyone BLACK and WHITE patterned themselves after original innovators so why did you single only Elvis out? Chuck Berry etc all those people built on what came before. So I don't know why Elvis is suppose to be diminished for doing same.
artistknownasbeavis 4 years ago
My point is rock and roll music was born out of the black community.
Secondly, I'm singling Elvis out because when people (a lot, not all, White America) talk of him, they anoint labels to him and forget about the people who were doing it way before him and fail to pay homage to the creators and genres (blues) that birthed rock N roll.
kimvaterra 4 years ago
Yes - it WAS born out of the black community. I think what you are saying about Elvis getting all the credit is something occurred in old days but EVERY documentary, music show I see nowdays PROPERLY notes that Elvis style was drawn from blues "Black" performers. I hardly think it's a secret or not recognized now. Can you name some instances where ANYONE is saying Elvis's style WASN'T based on black/blues performers?
artistknownasbeavis 4 years ago
kimvaterra, another point - I've read MANY books about Elvis. I think the world has acknowledged the roots of rock and roll is from black community so you should be happy
artistknownasbeavis 4 years ago
1. I'm happy. But more can be done in my opinion to shed more light on the old time genres and their practitioners that did not have the benefit of today's technology and freedom. I've recently gained an appreciation for Elvis, but there is a little hesitation in my mind when mainstream America likes a certain genre, they take it and run with it.
kimvaterra 4 years ago
yesdidn't have tv,etc like we got now those old guys who started it all-forgotten Why don't you write a book, put up a website? see what video DOES exist & put up here. Why not have your OWN CHANNEL titled "Architects of Rock and Roll"?Indians complain not much done to honor them at Little Big Horn battlefield but I say - well then hell THEY SHOULD DO SOMETHING. Eventually they built their own monument. So you should do the same. What have YOU done?
artistknownasbeavis 4 years ago
On another note, how bout that Jackie Wilson fella'?
kimvaterra 4 years ago
kimvaterra, yea- jackie is the man. Jackie had the moves but I read he didn't really dance except on stage. don't know if that's true
artistknownasbeavis 4 years ago
People like you are scared to know the truth, because it shines a whole new light on the way of thinking in regards to black music and its profound effect on the world.
kimvaterra 4 years ago
How do you get to "scared to know the truth" from me saying I don't think their styles are all that much alike. When did Elvis sing opera? How do you know I'M NOT BLACK?? WTF? I well know the history. Yea Elvis picked the blues up from Beal street. He had his own style based on blues. So Little Richard, Chuck Berry didn't INVENT the blues people BEFORE THEM did so I guess they copied their predecessors too. Elvis was the first white guy to do it. So what?
artistknownasbeavis 4 years ago
Kimvaterre, "shines a whole new light" roflmao! How old are you? Are you JUST finding this out? It's hardly a secret and is WELL KNOWN fact and IS OFTEN CITED. Everyone knows Elvis's style grew out of the blues. Nobody's hiding it - it's ALWAYS mentioned. If you want to say that Robert Johnson was an original and all those old guys fine but everyone else BLACK AND WHITE copied their forefathers. So what?
artistknownasbeavis 4 years ago
