this free panda cloud antivirus doesn't provide web protection by scanning url,and no firewall on it,so for me its waist, while i like to use kaspersky 2010 or eset v4 there are best but paid,
@yaar333 - There are many better free apps and this is one that I would not rely on as it has reduced ability when offline and for online use Avast or Avira :-)
@aboynameddream - I wouldn't say it was the best AV as Avira and Avast perform better in the free versions. But, it's up to the individual user, what they want and what they are happy using :-)
Guys, listen, there is really no best... Even with an AV with high detection rates, it is not 100% safe. Newer malware will still be able to bypass. Your best bet will be to use a sandbox or a HIPS program. Even then, there might still be security holes that have not yet been fixed.
As for Panda, my guess is that if a malware happens to infiltrate Panda and shuts of you internet connection, you're doomed... Panda relies on internet connection for its detection, so as all Cloud-Based AVs...
4DarkAces - I agree. There is NO 100% security solution, and cloud based apps require an active connection, but malware can also break the connection. Using Sandboxie, HIPS which is included with Online Armor and a good antivirus installed the better security can be achieved. Educating users before the event is easier than cleaning up afterwards :-)
DrewBananie - It is improving but still needs further tweaks before coming out of Beta. MS Security Essentials will also be its main contender, another beta program that still needs some tweaking but uses less 'in the cloud' :-)
I prefer Avast but have Panda Cloud on my test machine and will wait for general release before considering using it on my main machine. It does work well, but has some niggles to be sorted :-)
well if you think individual componats work better alone then get ESET NOD32 AV ... don't have to get the SS. as to when it comes to FP's: a good AV prog suck as eset or kaspersky will produce less FP's as a crap 1 like avast, avire...
scubdido - Bear in mind that each computer is configured differently, what works for one does not necessarily work for another. There is no 'one size fits all'. I use Avast, no FP's and I also surf within a VM. Individual components work better than suites, and this is generally acknowledged by those who deal with PC security. Essentially, it is a case of what works for each user and what they are comfortable with :-)
not the best due to its poor detection rate of zero day viruses. But the idea behind it is great!! It does not slow your system down it is very lite so great for slower computers. When they improve the detection rate it will be great!! (i still use it just because im not to worried about viruses and i use a firewall)
hero22zippy - Personally, I find Avast works for me, another alternative would be Avira. They are both highly rated and Avira scores marginally higher on av-comparison tests :-)
scubdido - Good combinations depend upon the machine configuration, no 'one size fits all'. Outpost, Online Armor, PC Tools Firewall plus, all good firewalls but don't work for all setups. Avast, Avira offer good AV protection at no cost, Avast 5 will be even better. NOD 32 if users are prepared to pay, but I only cover freeware :-)
VayneAurellius - The biggest threat to any computer is the user. Many do not know how to make a virus nor how to remove them, so I look at simple solutions to help them :-)
I know that Antivirus made simple for user to get rid from viruses and Trojans. But not all Antivirus can detect the threats. :P . I'm using Panda Cloud btw XD.
VayneAurellius - Many viruses and trojans are becoming more devious in their methods and there will never be 100% security against these threats, but educating users can reduce the risks :-)
VayneAurellius -Best AV? User choice as to what the user is happy using and what works for them. I use a layered approach - MSE, Avast 5 Beta, Threatfire, WinPatrol and OpenDNS..it works for me and I download a lot of malware and disable the protection to run it :-)
sure does, like id EVER give anyone my REAL addy lmao ^^ Anyhow i did register with a fake addy and what happened? didnt get any key or license, only a bunch of SPAM.....
thats why i dont use Avast, not officially anyhow :)
Anyhow, an idea for "test" would be plugins for Firefox and how it works, id suggest Noscript, Customizegoogle, ADB w Elements helper, Prefbar and Refcontrol =)
kingorgg - Firewalls I would recommend Online Armor as first choice, PC Tools Free Firewall as second, Comodo as third, but untick the antivirus option. Online Armor V3.5 is compatible with WinXP and Vista 32bit
dawnbreaks2009 - Remember that this is still in Beta, so it has much to be done to bring it up to date. I use Avast on another machine, but it's also about giving users choices as Avast doesn't work for everyone :-)
mrrotweiler2 - It was released as Beta on 29 April, but they are pushing to get it into Alpha asap as the feedback ids generally positive although there are a few minor bugs to be sorted. Also in the pipeline is a 64bit version and compatibility for Win7 :-)
the fact that its "not cpu-slutt!sh" is VERY appealing, most progs today are sooo uberbloated (cough vista cough) and often unnecesarily so, these progs are NEEDED and very appreciated, esp for us thats not on quadracore with like 16 gb ram and twin 1024 mb cards etc, my only q is - is it better than avira and avg? Whats your opinion?
mrrotweiler2 - My opinion? It's small and compact with low resources, it has found malware that I have downloaded as well as malware and viruses from external drives that I tried to import...it simply neutralized and deleted them. An option being considered is allowing removed items to be placed in the Recycle Bin -the built in one not Desktop - for recovery or analysis. It's good, it's fast and for most users I would say wait until it is out of Beta and bugs ironed out :-)
Issaland - It will remove rootkits that are held in its database, but as in another comment reply, there are some known bugs to be sorted, hopefully sooner rather than later ;-)
deadly1010P - The GUI is very minimalist, but many comments have been passed back about the appearance, settings etc for the developers to take note of and hopefully work on.
It does detect rootkits that are in the database but there are known bugs at present which is why it remains in Beta.
deadly1010P - It uses what it stores in the 'local cache' for offline use, not the same as updating definition files and storing them. It connects through a number of networks when online and utilizes 'community intelligence' which has somewhere over 20 million malware files in the database and uses this when you carry out an action such as downloading a malicious file. I have downloaded malware successfully, but when trying to execute the exe it is neutralized and the file removed :-)
Interesting.....Thanks for this! I saw an article about Panda Cloud but I wasn't sure about what was new about it. I might try it when it becomes non-BETA. I currently use Avast!, would you say that this program is better?
d2gizzo - It picks up malware faster than Avast and automatically removes it....if you visit a malicious site Avast warns you, Panda does not, it waits until a malicious download is initiated and then removes it without any intervention by the user. I removed Avast on my test machine to install this and it found a few things that Avast missed :-)
Ok thank you for your advice. I will seriously consider trying this. It sounds like an exciting idea. The potential of having a user database has already been proven with things like WOT. Very cool.

Avast? lol, why? every heard of ESET smart security? much better...get it for free at thepiratebay.
avast is useless to many false positives...
scubdido 2 years ago 2
scubdido - Yes i have heard of ESET and many more.
ESET smart security is a suite, and generally suites are less effective that individual components.
Any AV will give FP's, none are perfect and I would not advocate the use of pirate bay with cracked downloads.
cotojo1253 2 years ago
Ok yes, Eset SS is a suite...
well if you think individual componats work better alone then get ESET NOD32 AV ... don't have to get the SS. as to when it comes to FP's: a good AV prog suck as eset or kaspersky will produce less FP's as a crap 1 like avast, avire...

NOD32 by ESET
with Outpost Firewall by Agnitum
great combo

of course the comment about forced mailaddys was meant for THIS, sorry
mrrotweiler2 2 years ago
mrrotweiler2 - No problem LOL. Yes it does which is where a disposable email addy comes in very useful :-)
cotojo1253 2 years ago
sure does, like id EVER give anyone my REAL addy lmao ^^ Anyhow i did register with a fake addy and what happened? didnt get any key or license, only a bunch of SPAM.....
mrrotweiler2 2 years ago
mrrotweiler2 - I've not had any spam LOL
The idea of the email addy is that when it comes out of beta they will send users their license and registration details :-)
cotojo1253 2 years ago
yes i know how the praxis is, anything that requires a mailaddy isnt what id call FREEware, esp not since they sent me SPAM to the addy i gave them.
mrrotweiler2 2 years ago
mrrotweiler2 - Same method as used by Avast, email addy required for license to be sent to.
Don't understand the spam though, I have not had a single email from Panda or anywhere else at the moment :-)

cotojo1253 2 years ago
Well, My KIS 2009 expires in 53 days. But I can get it for free anyway (yay barclays). So I might just download and test it now.
Any firewalls you recommend, that works well with Panda Cloud?
kingorgg 2 years ago
kingorgg - Firewalls I would recommend Online Armor as first choice, PC Tools Free Firewall as second, Comodo as third, but untick the antivirus option. Online Armor V3.5 is compatible with WinXP and Vista 32bit

Panda Cloud,
Online Armor,
Threatfire,
Spywareblaster.

You will find many more on my site which is listed under the 'more info'

Matt from remove-malware has tested this on his youtube channel "mrizos".
He put it against 10 0 day threats and it missed 5 or 6, more than half.
I will be staying with Avast, especially when they release the new version which will be awesome!
