  • Be-bop Indy Rock....

  • It is amazing how different this song is, with its heavy, thumping beat and very basic lyrics, from their later stuff like "Tonight's The Night" and "Soldier Boy" which were kind of syrupy sweet in comparison -- more acceptable to a white audience, probably.

  • Well I kissed him on Thursday, and he didn't come Friday~

  • Shirley Alston sang the lead, but it sounds like the others each had a part to sing solo.1959.didn't hear it back then, but don't think it was bad.In 1960 the Shirelles really took off with Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow and started the way for other girl groups. The Chantels had Maybe in 1958 and Look in My Eyes in 1961 without Arlene Smith.

  • They're still making music the same way after 50 years

  • I love the shirelles always will

  • I still have this song stuck in my head for over 5 decades. :)

  • i like the Because I Said So version more to be honest. i love Mandy Moore's voice. She should do a cover of this song. i would definitely buy it on itunes.

  • First time on the radio, the DJ described this as a week record. Not far wrong was he!

  • 39rc6cf. You are a moron. These women, two of which are no longer with us were more successful at what they did than you could ever hope to be so have some respect and keep you stupid remarks to yourself.

  • It's the 60s version of "Friday"!

  • @b3thym only better..WAY better.

  • The best version of this song is the one they did on The Shirelles Sing The Golden Oldies listed as (Alternative Version). Also, for a real laugh, check out the Shirelles doing "I Met Him On A Sunday" from their 50th Anniversary tour (featuring Beverly Lee).

  • Thumbs up if you came here because you saw a copy of Barbie Gaye's My Boy Lollipop on ebay and having known Millie Smalls Version you thought you'd check that out and the 'video' to it was an album sleeve and one of the other songs listed on the cover was this so you thought you'd give this one a go too

  • Thumbs up if you came here because oh the movie "Because I Said So"!

  • released by the Florence Greenberg's Tiara Records in 1958. Wonderful!

  • LMFAO...Geez, seems like a few of ya are really touchy about this song! Oh, this is hilarious. Keep em' comin', dumbasses! ROFLMFAO!!!!

  • You can convert this or any youtube video to an mp3 at audiogetnow..com

  • GREAT PHOTO. We used to sing this in our accapella group years ago. I also like Laura Nero's rendition.

Met Shirley in Albany where she was singing. We talked. She offered me a brownie from her trailer. Very sweet lady.

  • i love this girl group.. wonderful!

  • I've never heard this version before, thanks for posting.

  • Love this Tune ................Thanks Aunt Sandra For turning me on this great music!!!

  • @timmyj40 thnx very much for a great upload!!!

  • This is awesome!! Great post timmy!!! ♥ ♥

  • I saw them perform many years ago in New York. Shirley Alston and the ladies were great! We need more groups like the Shirelles. Thank you to Passaic, NJ for a truly talented group.

  • This song was made when they went to my school and they played it at their talent show...Before they graduated Passaic High School..they became famous because of this song....

  • Around 0:35 ..and again later, sounds like a trunk was driving by the studio! Was this in the days before soundproofing?

  • They are in the rock and roll hall of fame where they belong

  • @frankc3285 PROBABLY THE FIRST AND ONLY TIME THAT ALL THE MEMBERS OF A GROUP (MALE OR FEMALE) ARE ALL SINGING LEAD . A SHIRELLES 1ST.

  • The Girls from Passiac......

    The best.......

  • Where are these ladies now, does anyone know?

  • @stafylides

Micki Harris died in 1982. Doris Coley Jackson died in 2000. Beverly Lee and lead singer Shirley Alston Reeves are still with us.

  • It´s a beautiful song!

  • Used in Scorcese's "Mean Streets"

  • Ronde ronde...

  • This was the local (NYC & NJ) hit that launched their career.

  • they're sweet. and none of em has a perfect voice but together they sound great!!

  • in reality, though, does anyone really have a perfect voice? especially today with all the voice editing...

  • It's recorded late 1957, and released 1958, not 1960. :)

  • 4 cuties

  • Finally somebody has the original version..!! Thanks for that!
