John played keyboards, Dick Heckstal-Smith on Saxes, saw them live loads of times and supported John Mayall with my band White Unicorn in, if I remember right 1970 at a Cambridge University May Ball, still got the programme.
Dick Heckstall-Smith on keyboards? Or is that him in the background playing saxophone? He was both keyboard player and saxophonist in the horn section if I remember correctly. And now dead. RIP
If anyone doubts if Peter Green belongs in the same league as other Mayall alumnus Eric and Mick Taylor, just check out the raw tone on this guitar break!!
The BB King concert was more like an audience with BB. He played very little and talked a hell of a lot but the band were hot. I would have preferred Mayall to have played a hell of a lot more. He and his band were great.
@TapeMeasureandhair Yes he is still going. Urfortunately because I live in NZ I was unable to see him performing at the Byron Bay Jazz and Blues Festival in Australia. But if you go to John Mayall's website there is a picture of him and Greeny taken at tht festival. By the way John Mayall came to NZ after that and did several performances around the country. I attended the one in Auckland and boy did it blow me away. That was the first time I had seen him perform live and boy what a night ti was
fantastic rocker from him!!! Released in Germany on his "So many roads" Decca compilation in 1967 together with "Crocodile walk" and "Blues city shakedown". Got it since 1975 and like to play it at this time very well. Thanks for postin' it and 5 stars from Germany.
Hi jimmytheferret and thanx for posting this! I've had "bare wires" since I was about 13 when my cousin gave it to me, and I love it still. John Mayall is one of the best there is in my opinion. Thanks for posting this one, I loved it....;)
