  • wow i thoguht they lived only 10 years thats fantastic

  • @trevanismith ..thank you! She passed away May 2010 at the age of 15.5 yrs old...I still miss her terribly.

  • Among the Molosser group and 100+ pound dogs in general, this breed and some only other breeds would have an avg. life expectancy of up to 15 years

  • Yes, our particular dogs have ranged from 9.5 yrs up to 15.5 yrs of age but average is about 12.

  • Do TMs get along well with other dogs usually?

And is the old girl still alive?

  • If they are well socialized and raised with other animals including other dogs, they are pretty good about it. But of course, each dog is individual and you have a better chance of them getting along if they are sterilized (male or female).

No, she unfortunately died May 2010, making her 15.5 yrs old, bless her soul, she was my doggy soulmate.

  • My boy and girl Charlie (Boy) and Danii (Girl) are so beautiful! They are rescue dogs so they were cheap but money didnt matter to us! What is the name of your tibetan mastiff?

  • i read on the net that they cost about $2,500 Australian. I got two for $350 australian each cause they were rescue dogs. they are one of the most destructive dog breeds but ours are beautiful and loving!

  • how much do they cost i am willing to pay alot of money T_T pleease tell me i did my reserach and everything i am ready for this breed of dog please reaspond back!!!!!!!

  • Thanks Sirseigan. I cannot imagine life without them. We have puppies right now and talk about rejuvenating the soul!!

  • Ohhh how nice. Our maleTM got around 10 years was considered kind of old I remebered. Your dog are lovely! Man do I miss ours when I see this :)

  • Arjan, I would love to hear more about your 14+ yr old bitch and male. Can you share their pedigrees? Where did you get them? Do you have any pics/photos to share?

They certainly are powerhouses if you don't start early with getting them to respond to collar pressure. My male is very powerful but I show him so he responds to his collar placed high up on his neck and slight pressure.

  • After our old Tibetan Mastiff bitch died at 14 y 4 month's we have a male TM left who is years old now. I have had ogs all my life but I have never had a dog that strong. with over 100 kg I can hold him but my wife of 60 kg not if he sees another dog with whom he wants to engage. Arjan.

  • Markdon, do you have some videos up? Or a website? would love to see your TM!

  • TM's are just wonderful dogs-and yours are lovely .We love (TM's)-and just could not be without our special girl-who is just over 3yrs now..thanks for sharing the video.

  • Yeah tibetan mustiffs are so strong and the guard :)

  • very nice environment for the dogs to grow up,but it should be cold in winters and not too hot in summers, thats why they have double coat of fur.

  • What type of guard dog? There are bark alarm types; size can also deter as well. What exactly are you thinking of when asking if a good guard dog? =)

  • Didn't know they lives that long. may be an outlier.

  • A good, well bred (not inbred) TM with exercise, good food, minimal vax, reg. vet care can live this long and longer.

  • is it a good guard dog?

  • We had a Tibetan Mastiff that died at the age of 14 years and 4 month's. i have seen TM that were about that old.

    arjan korevaar

  • gosh... like a lion.

  • That is great for a 12yr old dog. Great!

  • Very Nice !!!
