The most innovative and underrated guitar player ever!! This band makes me feel like no other band in the world, hard to believe they are so unknown to most
I'm unsure if it's the theme song from North Shore. But definitely the song playing during the Rick/Chandler/Turtle Waimea scene. Regardless, cult classic movie. Great stuff.
When My dad heard Killing Joke he said to me, ''we belong to different Galaxies''.
lol. In a way, he's right, They didn't have music like this when he was younger, but this is Killing Joke, They've changed everything, and for now the the future IS KILLING JOKE. The best is yet to come my friends.
- @lakesidepark2112 - I don't remember any controversy when this was released back in the mid 80s, except some comments from friends saying it strayed from their earlier sound. But that's KJ.
What I do remember is listening to the entire CD over and over. The CD played like one long song...and, very prophetic in its description of mankind. If you were to view the video for Sanity, you can see imagery of Washington D.C., and comparing it to the decline of modern western civilisation.
fantastic band- loved them forever. unreal drumming on this record- brighter than a thousand suns had a polished new wave sound that was very different than other records by them - very versatile band.
- Brighter Than a Thousand Suns - Killing Joke's most polished, underrated and accessible piece of work. This CD is a must have for any music lover's collection...
@ajarnfrankie Totally agree. What was all the controversy about when this album was released? REad something about the critics being harsh about the band straying from their original sounds and all ... I think it was their best, but that's just my opinion.
- The beauty of it is its accessibility and just a very polished KJ release. Actually, the polished refined sound started with Eighties and just carried over to this release.
@McSnurf I definitely agree! Jaz's faulty microphone gave the song a new light and a new power. Shows how good the song is in that it works brilliantly both with and without vocals. I wish they'd play this song live again...
Jaz is actually playing additional keyboards AND singing during the middle part of the song (post 3 minutes). If you look closely you can see him singing into a microphone that's on a stand in front of his keyboard, but the mic must be faulty as no vocals can be heard.
Great song, and sounds just as good as an instrumental as it does with vocals.
Can't wait to see them at the Forum in October!!!!!!!
Wow, I had forgotten just how good a band they are. Thanks for the post bro. They have an amazing sense of timing. My respect also to Paul's family. He won't be forgotten.
Great song. First exposure was from the movie "North Shore"...now have finally figured out 12 years later what the name of the song is! This is not an easy one to come by. Thanks for the post. Great song. Rob
1 month ago i was enjoying this awesome video, talking about how great Paul and Geordie played live, and now this terrible news. Paul was the nicest man in the band and a great bass player. We'll miss you a lot compadre!!
LOVE and RESPECT to the mighty Raven and his family.
Absent friends shall live by love.
Paul Raven you'll always rule!!
(As friendly and active as he was i'm sure he will be working in a new project with Jimi Hendrix, John Bonham and Ian Curtis)
This video is the shit! and you can't deny everybody in the band looked great by that time. They all are in great shape, you can feel that vibe just watching this clip. But what i loved the most about it were those moments when Jaz's mic doesn't work, you can listen some extra instrumental moments and really enjoy that awesome Geordie and Raven synergy. Thanks for sharing!
Message to Jaz. Release the original Brighter than 1000 Suns mix that was done Summer 1986 that did NOT feature "Southern Sky" . Thanks Paul Fergusons Dad!
Did ya'll see the part at the end where the guys are looking for Jaz to sing the mosh part.. and they find the mofo messing about behind the keyboard :) Awesome

I prefer this to the more recent stuff. This was back when Jaz singing. He has a beautiful singing voice.
On Extemities,Pandemonium and Democracy it sounds his voice sounds more agressive and not as good.

I guess this performance was before the album came out, and so the lyrics hadn't been written yet. Right?
