Eveyone keeps talking how today a replica of Jupiter 8 would be north of $10K.. Let me tell you from experience. In 80's a transistor was a dollar, today we stuff millions of them on a chip and sell them for 30 bucks or less. Components are cheaper wether they are active or passive, they cost much less than in 80's so the argument of what would it cost today and no one would buy it are misguided. If one wanted an exact copy of Jupiter 8 today in parts $400 plus chassis.
I would rather Roland have NOT put the Jupiter name on this thing, rather saved it for a real analog, or impeccable VA. However, this thing does have some amazing physical modeling aspects which is going to make a lot of keyboard players take notice. And it does sound surprisingly great! Nicely analog sounding, when originally it was supposed to just have the Gaia engine. I might consider this...
If Roland would re-issue the Jupiter 8 and put the Aturia software inside it then I think it would sell. You would think that this would be a piece of cake, but for some unknown reason, Roland is hell bent on forward thinking, while the rest of us want to relive the past.
@stealthgear I agree! and there is no powerfull analog synth that is affordable for most people! I think a lots of the complains about Jupiter-80 are childish. I think this keyboard is very powerfull for live performance with very good sounds to inspire compositions, this is not a "toy" to spend time trying to create "original" synth sounds that in the end always sounds familiar, at least for me (ps. sorry for my english, it sucks)
@stealthgear Roll that turd in glitter as much as you want. If you would pick a Jupiter 80 over a Jupiter 8 then I guess our musical tastes are very different. I /facepalm that they called it a Jupiter.
I'll reserve judgment until I hear more than 5 sounds from any given reviewer. So far, what little I've heard sounds more like a (cleaner version of a) Roland D-50 or a V-Synth, as opposed to anything resembling a Jupiter. Roland obviously isn't discrediting "analog"; they've seen the value of progressing towards a more perfect digital representation. Smart! Frankly, I can be a lot more spontaneous & creative with more than 1 - 16 notes of polyphony, because I hate limitations. JMO.
lol. I'd rather buy a Jupiter 8 any day over this virtual crap. What's wrong with Roland? If they'd have re-released the TB303, TR808, TR909, etc ten years ago they would still be making a killing from them. I just don't understand their problem with producing analogue.

@stryker1999
As long as they don't call it a Jupiter 8, then I don't care what they call it.
If it has a lot of Jupiter sounds, and a big engine, and they want to sell these....
I owned a Jupiter 8. Until midi came along, and then I found myself getting more productive in the studio.
(But I only sold the Jupiter because I needed the dough)
By the way, the original manual for the Jupiter 8 was about 16 pages.
