Hey, i love how your grand am is and its performance :D i'm trying to do the same thing with mine, get it up to speed and everything, any advice or tips?
hey man my malibus 3.1 is dead and i found 2 engines to swap a grand am 3.4 and another 3.1 so do you think is there any difference between those 2 cuz i think there almost the same shit but i dont know wich could be better? what d ya say?
Hey dude really nice grand am. I have an 03 gt with the sct package. Anyway where exactly do you have your mods listed? That's a pretty damn fast GA and I'd like to know with the $1200 I have left over from graduation what I should upgrade to (performance wise) other than a cai. Thanks man
I agree. I bought S&S Headers for my 3400 Alero and it brought on a great deal of whp. The only thing is the shift of power moving from low to mid-high RPM range. Nonetheless, I dropped from 15.1s to 14.5s. I have similar mods to yours: 62mm TB, DHP PCM, Taylor Spiro Pro 8m Spark Plug Wires, MP Racing Stage 3 CAI, Pacesetter Monza Catback 2.5" Exhaust, Magnaflow HIgh-flow cat and Downpipe + S&S Headers, aftermarket thermostat, and Goodyear Eagle F1 tires (great grip).
the new gp has the same stock hp as the 97-03. unless it's the supercharged gt gp, then it'll be 260 stock. as for the grand am... there is no way that car is stock because even the base model gb could beat a gt grand am seeing is it only has 175hp and the weight difference isn't enough to matter. the hp hasn't changed on the grand am gt since the 92-98 to 99-05.
I didn't say my Grand Am was stock. I have my mods listed around here somewhere.
300lbs is alot...and again the gearing in the Grand Am Helps aswell. 25hp and 15ft lbs just doesn't make up for the extra weight and fuel economy gearing.
yeah, sorry man, u need to go by years as well, cause mi 99 GP GT is only like around 200 stock and the current ones are around 260 so if u were in a grand am that was even three years older than the GP then that would explain, but as beslyr said earlier, no way in hell could the 3800 be beaten by the 3.4 litre stoock, way more torque in the stock grand prix (hey, at least u got better gas mileage)
I dont understand why prix owners always get so pissed when they get beat down by a grand am. I've never lost to a prix in my grand am. even when it was stock. Grand Am are clearly the better car. lol FACE!
i wouldn't say that. is your grand am stock? like i said in the comment below i love both cars and own both as well but the grand prix is the better "stock" car of the two. it's got a huge hp and torque advantage even on the base model 3800 SE. the weight difference is basically unoticeable because of the huge power advantage the gp hs over the grand am. now once you get into modding it's a different story. like i said though, both awesome cars that i enjoy equally
The Grand Prix SE's came with the 3100. The Grand Prix GT has 25hp more and 15ft/lbs more TQ...but it weighs almost 300lbs more. Plus...the Grand Am GT has a shorter sportier gearing. I like both cars too...It was hard for me to choose between them...but the Stock Grand Am GT is faster than a Stock Grand Prix GT.
yeah... 175hp to 200hp. i love both cars.. i own both and grand prix is the better "stock" car. once you get into modding, it's a whole different ball-game.
Are you guys really that upset that a Grand Am beat a Grand Prix in a meaningless Test & Tune run?
Anyways...the GP had wheels and a muffler from what I remember...how do I know if he was stock? Maybe he had an intake or a chip or what not. The driver could have been bad at launching. The title stays the same...and you guys need to get over it.
I don't disagree. And no, I wasn't being sarcastic. You RARELY see a Grand Am pull its weight in these kinds of things. I've never personally done anything with my Prix GT, so I've only seen others. I was just curious as to the mods done to it to make it perform so nicely :)
Oh. Okay. My apologies. It's sometimes hard to know if people are being sincere or not. :-) My Mods:
-2.5" Stainless Cat-Back
-2.5"in/ Dual 2.5"out Magnaflow Muffler
-2.5" High-Flow Cat
-MilzyMotorsports PCM Upgrade
-Doctor Speed Cold Air Box
-MSD 8.5mm Spark Plug Wires
-Ported High Flow MAF The car is in full street trim/weight. The Grand Prix was was nicely modified...appearance wise...and he was a good sport...unlike others at there that day.
I have an 03 grand am se2 with a 3400 sfi in it, is that the same 3400 that they put in the gt?
TheSkee93 3 months ago
@TheSkee93 Yup! The motors are the same. Just the suspension and the Gear ratios in the transmission are different/better.

BonkersAdrian 8 months ago
@BonkersAdrian A good Intake and 2.5" Exhaust is a good start.
Headers with a good downpipe leading to the cat will make a huge performance increase.
Follow it up with a good tune. Firm up the tranny shifts.

If you get into modding, which car would you would you say is better?
kevin312907 10 months ago
@kevin312907...The Grand Prix GTP would be a better base to start with. You can't modify the Grand Am's too much without hurting the transmission.

@slowbird The octane 91 or higher I couldn't afford right now, college

i was just stating based on what i read. i don't even remember writing the bit about the stock thing. it was directed for someone else.
ninny404 4 years ago
No worries. We really can't prove any of this unless someone donates there stock Grand Am and Grand Prix for our use. It's all good.
slowbird 4 years ago
yeah haha
ninny404 4 years ago
ohhh shit, i meant three years younger lol cause the three years older stock would be raped by even the grand am stock (by three years lol)

no grand am is faster than a grand prix stock
deskjet390 4 years ago
That's a very generalized statement. So a Stock Grand Prix SE is faster than a Stock Grand Am GT?
slowbird 4 years ago
yeah... 175hp to 200hp. i love both cars.. i own both and grand prix is the better "stock" car. once you get into modding, it's a whole different ball-game.

Yea...it has 25hp more...but it weighs alot more and the Grand Am Gt has better gearing.
Stock for Stock...GT vs GT. Grand Am is faster.

should be titled "modded grand am -vs- stock grand prix"
mike357br 4 years ago
the gt grand prix's got a 3800 and the gt grand am's got a 3.4, so if they were stock, the 3800 would kill the 3.4
beslyr 4 years ago
That Grand Prix was running low 16's. A Stock Grand Am runs high 15's. MY stock Grand Am ran mid 15's.
The Grand Prix GT is too heavy. Only the GTP with the L67 is fast. GT vs GT the Grand am is quicker.
slowbird 4 years ago
Eh, I don't like Grand Am's, but not a bad run for it. Wonder what kind of mods he added to make it 'nice' so to speak :P
KendraHarvey 4 years ago
a 15.0/15.1 is a very good time for a Grand Am. They usually run high 15's to low 16's.
Are you asking what I did to make my car "nice?"
I don't understand...are you being sarcastic?

I really couldn't say...the Exhaust mods were cheap...the PCM can be purchased alot cheaper now.
It's been too long...I really couldn't say.
