Foundanickle means that he has a whitebelt with the stripes through them... That's the system. Usually we earn our belts through a three month system, stripes through the belt included, but all dojos are different.

@danysasuke01 nop in the world shotokan federation kata and belts are in this order: heian shodan-yellow belt, nidan-orange belt, sandan-green belt, jondan-blue belt,godan-brown belt.I am black belt seventh dan so I'll come to teach my child.

hey guys am i doing good? after 3 lessons i tried kyon kata the first time and by the end of the day i had my orange stripe, then after 2 more lessons i got my red stripe for being ok at pair work, now the grading is next saturday and sensai says i could jump my yellow stripe and go straight to full orange if im good enough so plz reply to say wether im good or not ok? ty :)

@oooifoundanickle i highly doubt you should get an orange belt in 5 lessons. the average at my school is 1-2 years to get to full orange of 3 1.5-2hr practises a week

What I really like about this master is he is not all showy or dramatic. He showcases constant focus, technique and the simplicity of the movements perfectly, and that is someone you can learn from, who is not out to better his image with theatrics.

A mi parecer se joroba mucho, yo mis catas las hago con posiciones bajas pero siempre con la espalda derecha y no por una defensa me voy a doblar.

I think you hump a lot, I do my kata in the lower positions but always with the back straight and not a defense I'm going to turn

@Vallenha this is funny. You think you can do "empi" perfectly, but you can´t even write "sempai" (which can be written as senpai) correctly. Also, sempai means "the karate student with more experience" and not only a student with a brown belt; which is a mistake made by a lot of people. Karate is not only a sport to practice a bunch of techniques without having knowledge about them. It´s about the understanding and getting the essence of its practice for the life. good luck the next year =)

the shiyo-ryu kata of empi is graceful with alot of hidden power. when you do the bunki of this form you will find out fast not to say "no power" alot of the open hand of this kata is blocks and pulls. if you block hard enough it is like a strike. if you block a kick, strike, or a punch and you hurt them... they will think twice about throwing a second. thus the true meaning of the art. self defence

Those open handed palm strikes/blocks.... I did all these katas in the Shuri Ryu style and was taught that katas should be able to be explained in a "real-life" scenario. You do these open handed maneuvers slowly. I was taught to do them "quickly" as if blocking or parrying an attack. I realize its more of a "form". You do it rather gracefully, but lack alot of power.

Yeh , ive been doing shotokan karate for 9 years xd , since i was 5 , now im 14, And i know alot of katas , enpi is my favourtie , yeh but me to i can land the jump but its all out of coordination and not in place T_T...

well since you land the jump with a shuto-uke block, i found it easier when training alone to chamber for the block before jumping to get the hands co-ordinated, then when you land all you need to do is execute the block. once you get used to it the jump will look a lot more natural and fluent in the dojo.

yeah, i think the move that your talking about is empi with M not enpi with N, they both have different meanings i think that with N it means swallow, and with M its the move that you are talking about.
