One correction to missclassics00's comment: the Kraken was part of Greek mythology and was used in a more-or-less correct context in Clash of the Titans (unusual for hollywood!). In that movie, it did resemble the critter in this film. Most other interpretations of the Kraken that i've seen represent it as a giant squid.
i thought the kracken from clash of the titans.looked like this creature and could not figure what movie..this movie i saw when i was about the age of the little boy in the movie..i was scared of monsters in movies and had very bad night mares..this is a beautiful movie depicting what could happen if we went to another planet and brought back a speciment from another world.

...and what is great is that the movie shows that this is one monster who only wants to protect itself-not kill and eat all humans. Very poignant.
Notice that it is always a human who is the aggressor.
