It took you three shots to kill the guy with the sniper. Even if you only graze somebody's body twice, it should kill them. You hit the guy three times in the arm/chest area.
The montage is done very well, but Blindglavier, who in thier right mind, who makes a montage of them getting killed repeatedly? In a montage, the goal is to make you look good. Besides, it's easy to get some good kills if you play a lot of games. For instance, if you played shotty snipers a hundred times and got a kill only once in each game you could make a montage.

Oh, and back before Bungie fixed a few sniper bugs, it wasn't uncommon to see people with bad lag to take 5 sniper shots to the body, and walk away.
