There is something about this kind of Newman song that is unbearably tender and vulnerable. Like 'In Germany Before the War' there is in the pauses and omissions and brief-ness a Shakespearian pathos even. Pathos, bathos and ethnos in the whole of Newman's songs I know since before SAIL AWAY in the Sixties. To think its been over forty years. Also his songs are better than his patter or the interviews. He speaks through his music definitively.
I've never seen a duller, less involved audience than this one. I mean, shit... there's actually some old dude YAWNING at 0:07....He's in a white shirt holding his fist to his mouth - - you'll see him.

I'll post this as many times as I want kind sir!! As the great Shakespeare once said, "A yawn by any other name would smell just as bad"..... By the way, learn to live and let live on this YouTube. You're going to read a lot of comments you don't agree with around here... making a point to tell others to get a clue just makes you sound like a cranky old man. Lighten up, for your own good.
@jzerony JeezLaweez; Give us old guys a break, will ya?! I got sleepy at a Rod Stewart concert where the jam was the same decibels as a nuclear war! This is something you'll never see at Metallica: an audience that listens...Now, go hug the muff, muff-hugger
@bangwezl Hugging muffins sounds like fun, but before I go and do that i must clarify that I was commenting at this barely engaged audience of sleepy folk - by no means meaning to single out the aged ones, which I am by the way quickly becoming myself. Randy Newman deserves better, tis all. And good lord - you'd never find me at a Metallica concert, thats fer sure! heh heh
I haven't seen it on an album so far. Years ago I bought a single (correct?) with only 2 songs by Mathilde Santing on it: "Bad news from home" and "Cowboy". Both jewels in my opinion.
i love this

It's called an attentive audience. It's a Jazz crowd, not a mosh pit. You keep posting this same comment on all of these German Jazz Concert vids.
Get a CLUE!
