This is the highest airport in England and subject to vicious crosswinds on a regular basis. My daughter's flight landed there in May and said it was terrifying, she thought they were going to crash. The pilot aborted the landing once and said that if he had to do it a second time they would have to divert to another airport.
@PhazeModz Im currently studying at The Aviation Academy at Leeds Bradford Airport, opposite the terminal, the other side of the runway where Multiflight is. Multiflight offer flight training. You should go for it!
got to love Leeds Bradford not only one of the highest but also one of the windiest airports, sat many of times at the bottom of 14 watching the hair raising approach's, never a dull moment, never seen an aborted landing though, excellent capture !!!!!!
haha, aborted takeoff!!!! The excitement effected your speech! I'm hoping to go to Manchester soon (egcc) much better than Liverpool! Theres like 1 plane an hour there....and it's a Cessna, lmao! Well, there was that ONE time I went :P
YSSY (sydney airport) doesen't get many missed landings as it isn't that wind and when there is they use the crosswind runway. That airport needs a crosswind 1!
Well at least they wouldn't have needed to travel very far for a graveyard if it had of crashed...is that the the best spot for the West Yorkshire plane spotters? I've been on 2 aboted flights one into Honolulu with Delta airlines on a L-1011 and the other into Newcastle (UK) Emirates airlines A330.200 and i've been on a Virgin Atlantic B747.400 when it aboted take off twice at Los Angeles before they started to use A340.600's it's all scary stuff if you are not into flying..
crosswind landings are a tad scary...I was in en Embraer 190 last friday which felt like a heavy crosswind landing...it did not touch and go but it is normal...i;ve been in many touch and go's, it is normal...
Heading (321 degrees), altitude (3000feet, nav radios (402.5, etc already preselected on the centre console, MCP in the event of a go around. Applying TOGA commands immediate go around thrust, flaps set to 15 initially, trim reset, flaps up, configuration horn cutt off, etc.
A go around is always discussed and prepared in the cruise or descent before making the approach.
Go around procedure for ILS runway 32 at EGNM requires climbing on the runway heading to 3000ft and a right turn towards the LBA VOR at 4000 and then outbound at 160 degrees before making the turn @ DME 9 for finals again. No STAR's at LBA.
I have flying experience in the form of a JAR PPL on a cessna and PA-28, but not a 737-300. However I use to fly on FSX, but no longer do with my current pc specs.
However I have studied the full 737-300 flight manual over a 2 year period, which makes me very knowledgable of the aircraft and it's procedures that crew refer to.
Together with my kmowledge of SIDS/STARS, instruments approach and NATS free charts on AIS's/air law, etc, etc thankyou trevor thom.
@EinkOLED Maybe Jet2 will offer you a job! However, looking at your description of the missed approach procedure i'm not sure you would pass the sim ride. I don't think ATC would be best pleased if you carried out the missed approach proc for runway 32 when it was landing on 14! I also dont think you would get very far trying to track back to the LBA VOR....NDB maybe?
I'm not instrument rated but know how to interpret what is on the chart into practice. I've also flown a NDB DME arc at EGAC with the aid of a instrument rated private pilot a while back.
But no, jet 2 wouldn't offer me a job despite my knowledge of the classics and some ATPL ground knowledge.
I'm just too poor to self fund the intergerated route and too old for the modular. I'm in contact with a ryanair FO who shares his knowledge of the industry.
lol! yeh! im going through my flight training myself, following a childhood dream..! had never seen an approach abort before, n especially from where u view them at leeds.. what the camera dosnt show is that this happens literally right above ur head.. so away from the camera it is an incred thing t see here!
@X13CDX Main thing is that people get scarred that a Go-Around is a sign of weakness or poor skill.
I have made several go arounds when I wasn't happy with the approach. A bad approach never made a good landing! My Instructor is happy to see me make a decision that is safe for all concerned. Its something more PPL's should be encouraged to use instead of mentally forcing the aircraft down!
@X13CDX where are you doing your flight training? I am british, i flew for the RAF and now converted my license to ATPL. Well, i say now, sort of 10+ years ago. What ever you are training as, ppl, cpl. atpl good luck with it. study hard
@X13CDX For someone who is supposedly in flight training, I would have thought that your knowledge of the difference between 'take-off' and 'landing' would be more accurate than that.
FYI, in Britain, the prevealing winds come from the west and southwest, which is the reason why most runways are aligned in this directions. Apparently , Bradford as well as Birmingham and Cardiff are exceptions.. thats why you are likely to encounter extreme crosswinds when u take off or land there...Nice video anyways!
Most definately a "Go Round", it happens alot at LBA.....but i have yet to see one for myself...The JET2 pilots are usually very good, as they are used to the changable weather up at Leeds... nice video...
far better to go around than take any risks with a landing you're not happy with, looked fairly windy (as usual at Leeds!!) good early go around decision by the pilots! And you meant they aborted the landing not the take-off right?? lol nice vid though!
yeh they came around for a second try.. n landed.. although quite heavy far down the runway.. i have the second video n will upload it tnyt if not then it will be on in the morning..
"he aborted takeoff?".."So fuck*ng awesome!".. haha.. i can understand you're excitement.. im spotting regularly at Bradley intl (KBDL),unfortunately i havent seen something like this. you're really lucky ;p
actually pilot's earn their cash from the moment the step on board the aircraft whenever they're flying in whatever weather. It's enough to get the plane off the ground, let alone deal with all the crap involved.
poor passengers....:(

No way is that an aborted landing. Standard practice with Crosswind at LBA is go around.
