Thanks for this impressive video. I couldn't find any facades anywhere that were not made of solid materials. I wanted to try and buy 1 built from curtains or something I could fold up to not take up much room in the car for when I getting to and from gigs. But this video shows you how to build it :) nice 1
Man you dont need to be set up dead center, your idea is great the way it is. I love the fact that you hide your subwoofer that way. As you said, maybe a logo on the outside for some events, thus the velcro but over all I like what you did with minimum finances. Regards, DJ Malarky out.
So, does the backside of that black velvet fabric stick right to the velcro? That was the only thing I didn't see covered in the video, and wasn't quite sure if it sticks to the velcro, or if the material needed to be wrapped around the PVC so that the front side of the material can touch the velcro, or something else. Hope my question makes sense.
Well made video, and a great idea. Thanks for sharing!
Hey Dj Rude, I am Dj Nate and that was very helpful, I am very impressed with the monitor stand, any tips on how you did that, I would be mounting anywhere from 26" to 32" monitors
@badboyznyc You can't do karaoke with Serato, you will need something Virtual DJ. I use VDJ for karaoke and mix House & Trance and I use Serato for mixing Hip Hop & R&B
@djfrankis Thanks Frank I do have Video SL and yes you can if you want to convert all of your karaoke zip & mp3+g files to AVI or FLV, etc. But who wants to do all of that? I am very happy using VDJ to do karaoke because it can play my little compressed zip files which allows me to have over 150,000 karaoke zips on a 1.5 terabyte with tons of room to spare.
I have been talking with the Serato Dev team for over a year. They say that they do see a need for Video SL to play zip and mp3+g files so look for them to implement that sometime in the future... (don't hold your breath though, Serato still doesn't have the ability to play FLAC files yet they keep saying they're going to put that in a future update ,lol) DJ RuDe
@crispa02 Thx! I made the stand from and old TV stand I used for karaoke in the 90's made for old tube TVs. I modified it by cutting up the stand platter for the TV and welding on an LCD wall mount plate. Then I reused the parts of the old platter to use as guards in case the screen gets bumped or knocked over.
Total random question for you Rudedog,, I have a 500w power amp (warrior) and 2x 250w tops (skytec) when I used them yesterday at a medium gig, the amp was cliping at half way, was the problem , 1.the mixer (small stanton 2 channel) the amp or the speakers ?????????????? please help ....i know i need better speakers , but surely I should at least get more than half power from the amp
I have just bought my materials , but I have an issue!! The joints dont seem to stick very well,, did you file down the ends to make the fit better ??
Thanx Rudedog , I think the problem seems to be with the black seal's in the elbows, and also the fact that I used a saw instead of a pipe cutter, it means the end of my pipes are a bit course and jagged, I think I need to get back to the drawing board !!
Use Velcro that comes in long strips that has adhesive on one side. Stick it to the pipes from end to end. Then pull it tight and roll the remaining material around the pipe and under itself tightly so that it won't come off and is nice &.
Anyone know if you make your own spandex dj faceds??. I have priced to buy new and it seems to me that it would be much cheaper to put together yourself!! Any ideas?
No video or pics, the piping is done but I havent got the material covering or velcro yet. I'll send you a link to a picture once its completely done!
Great Vid! I've taken account to this video and immediately took a trip over to Home Depot..lol. Your vid was hands down the best instructional vid here. Thanks a million.
Thank you! There are a lot of great videos of similar projects so I take that as a great compliment! I'd like to see your finished product, send me a link to a pic if you can!
Correct, there are a few vid's here brother, but none looked as good as yours. That curve in the front did it for me. Stylish..lol. You should be getting a video response soon as to what I've created. I hope that you like it. Thanks again.
Wa'tup RudeDog, great project, just the thing i need. i have a question though, you said if im not mistaken, about 40' or less of the pvc pipe, how does the pvc pipe come in length , do they sell it by pieces of 10' to 12' or what s the deal with that, excuse my ignorance, im not too savey on pvc materials. thank you.
Thanks for the comment, PVC comes in 10' and 16' pieces but some hardware stores have cut pieces in different sizes. Home Depot & Lowes typically have the 10' pieces.
The fabric is available at all Jo-Ann Fabric & Crafts which is a chain here in the U.S. Most any fabric store should have it. The amount you need depends on the size of the facade you are building. I paid about $30 and another $20 for Velcro and about $10 for the PVC pipe. $60 total.
Thanks alot rude dog, for responding. i like when a fellow dj don't mind anserwing question. Everything is looking good on your set up. Your speakers kind of look like the b52 matrix speakers. I have them and they sound real nice for the size.
No problems dude! Yes these are the B-52's, they kick ass for the price. I just ordered a new set of QSC HPR's with the two 18" subs and and pair of two ways that mount on a pole in the 18" sub. These will be seriously bangin'!
I chose Schedule 40 PVC because it is very strong. Use PVC joints that are deep. You want avoid shallow joints. My video displays the type to use. Other guys are using the shallow type which will cause the pipes to disconnect from the joints easily, I've seen in some of the other guy's videos. Mine go in tight and come out with some effort. A person could lean on it and it will withstand the pressure. I usually tell people not to touch and to please stay back, especially with that drink!
Great idea! You can also build a front board with 1/4 inch ply-wood, and then screw the hinges on each side so they just fold inwards when you put it away. the fabric can be stapled on the wood. another idea is to make one in white so you can use LEDs to make it any color you want.
Thanks Marcio for the comment. I do have one in white satin. I mentioned it already right here on the comments. So I can back light it with colorful LEDs.
This thing is perfect now. The pipes are painted black and the 3M Velcro used now only requires 1 half of it, the "hook" side is stuck to the pipe so the back of the crushed velvet doesn't need the "loop" side of the Velcro "hook & loop" combination because it sticks to it by itself. Then the material is tucked around the pipe creating a taut and clean look. No wrinkles and creases! It looks more professional now than it did in this video! I should start selling these things! Who wants one!!
I painted the PVC black already. I put the velcro strips on first before painting because the adhesive will stick better to the bare pipe. Use the hard part of the Velcro on the pipe & the soft fuzzy part on the material. I'm going to have it sewn on because it doesn't stick well to the material. Make sure to buy sew-able Velcro. I'm going to buy some white satin material as an alternative this way you can install a colorful LED light behind it to give your DJ booth as a backlight.
Thanks 5150, I'm not finished with it yet, I still need to annotate it with all of the info regarding dimensions, part names and steps. Of course your dimensions can be different, I'm just giving you a starting point. I'll do the annotations later tonight.
did you spray paint the pipes or would that look bad
