I think I know why Kidou wears goggles. In my seventh year of school I read a book about soccer. The main character had bad vision and had to wear goggles, since his glasses would fall off during a match. Plus Kidou's sister wears glasses as well. So his goggles might only be a way for him to see.

Either that or the animators thought that he would look cooler that way...
