@croclover123 I'm not a computer expert at all, but I remember a employee where I bought my Dm4 said it was great for multitasking. If you are a big computer gamer it will work but not great. It depends on the dm4 model you have.

@flager67 hold down the "Fn" key on the bottom left of the keyboard, that lets you use the "F" keys. if you dont hold the Fn key, all ur doing is changing the Volume, wifi on/off, screen brightness, play/pause, skip, mute....

@deroowebas alt+f4 doesnt shut down your laptop. It just closes an application. Lets say your on google chrome, if you hold alt and press f4, it will close the program. Also, you should try looking in the manual or online for the function key settings.

I'm torn between hp envy 14 and the dm4...any suggestions? Like that the dm4 is much lighter and not as bulky as envy 14. On the other hand, envy 14 has an awesome build quality, 2 year warranty, switchable graphics, great display etc

Also, its mah first time using win 7 and gotta say for my first impression, its really a step up from xp....its like xp but just prettier and fancier lookin!

the touchpad was not so good as many ppl say. i ordered this pc from rheir website custom made.when i opend the box and for the fisrt time saw my pc i noticed that the touchpad was not installed correctly.so i wud have to click extra hard for it to work.i just sent it in for repair and hopefully everything will be okay:) PS: the speakers kindof sound staticy!

This Laptop is pissing me off, whenever Im playing an online video game on this laptop I have to hold the fn key to press a function key in the game and I only want to press the fkeys not hold the fn key then press it. during the game if i press f2 for example it decreases brightness rather than what I want it do to in the game How do I reverse or fix this??

@Winterstorms47 my brother fixed it for me, and I remember how it's supereasy to turn off the mirror on the Fn-keys. When the notebook starts up and the HP-logo shows immediately press Esc key to enter BIOS. Now navigate with the arrowkeys to the setting called "Enable Fn-keys actionslot" or something and choose "Disable". Now remember Save and Exit. Now notebook starts up and F1-F12 keys are normal and won't use the functions on them unless you press down Fn-key first. Sorry my bad english (:

The Hot thing about this machine is the processor.The I5 is Nice if you cut back on unused process's these machines fire up in about 30- sec or less,my quickest was 23 sec start up,10 sec shut down.The only thing is the standard sound isnt all that great.4gbs of ddr3 ram is good but the video's still clip a little and stutter @ times not all video does this tho...Now for surfing the web its Great,Optical Drive is removable w/ space saver.(mine is)

If you get it with the ATI Discrete graphics and 4GB ram, it can run games pretty well. I can play oblivion on high, but don't expect it to be super awesome graphics. Its not. It can probably play BDBC2 on medium-ish settings.

@VantageKing No. The Envy line of HP's is the top end line, and it has a much better 1GB ATI 5870 graphics card and comes with the core i7 (although the dm4 can come with the i7 option too). it can play Crysis on medium-high.

This is a good trade-off between battery and performance. If you want pure gaming, the Envy line is a better choice, but for day-to-day use and playing games well, the dm4 is the good choice.

It's an amazing laptop. I have the DM4-1019tx, which includes a 2.26Ghz core i5, 2GB RAM and ATI HD 5450 Discrete graphics card. The graphics are switchable so you can save battery. The 14 inch screen works very well, it's portable and very light. battery is good at 4.5 hours of constant light use. The trackpad takes some getting used to and the fingerstrokes don't work as well as those on the macbooks, but it is acceptable.

@boarder3512 ...continued. The speakers work greatly and have a lot of bass, but the placement is a bit wierd and the surface kinda muffles the sound. I payed about 800 dollars, but I got it on sale. The only thing that kinda annoyed me was that the black, glossy border around the LCD screen is already quite scratched around the webcam. All I did was try to clean my fingerprints from opening the lid with a soft cloth but it's very scratch prone. The rest of the laptop is amazing and sturdy tho.

Overall it's a great buy, oh and one more thing; A lot of bloatware comes pre-installed with the OS (Win7 64bit), and lots of advertising pitches so that can be annoying to uninstall. Also, I'm planning to upgrade to 4GB ram since I'm a bit of a gamer, but it runs very well with 2GB. I hope this answered all your questions :)

I was leaning toward the macbook pro 13 for a while but then I realized I didn't really like OS X that much, and I might as well stick with a pc that is already running windows 7. To me, this thing seems like the macbook pro of windows notebooks. This week the dm4-1060us is on sale at office depot for $679.99, so I am very close to purchasing it. I don't know how you can sell something that nice for such a good price.

@louis4151 Sorry. It used to be that only the dm series was metal, but now some dv's (the dv5, one of the two new dv6's, the dv8, and the old models of the dv6 and dv7) are plastic and others (the other new dv6 and the new dv7) are metal. The dm models are metal ultraportables.
