this is back when NA$CAR was still NASCAR. Hard to believe Jeff just turned 40, but man I remember watching Jeff at this time when he was so hated, he was what got me into NASCAR. Been watching a few old NASCAR vids from this time and its nice to see the stands full still as well as classic NASCAR sponsors that mainly have to do with car products.
Jeff Gordon won like 8 road courses in a row, or something like that. He won the big race at Bristol 5 times in a row... Won the Southern 500 at Darlington 4 years in a row... He is amazing!!!
I was at this race, was a fun track to watch! Ricky rudd made a good run, then got a good view of him going into the tires, I was grabbing a hot dog walking along the fence when the 99 Exide car spun out and hit the wall right in front of me, I forgot who it was but one car spun out and slide right into the pit lane when rudd hit the tires and had to drive all the way through the pits.
They have, Rhino96; good catch. :) In this race, the first year they had The Chute, Turn 7 was a wide, sweeping corner that abruptly funneled down into the very narrow Esses. However, there wasn't much passing there, so Turn 7 is now the "Budweiser Bottleneck," a much sharper and narrower turn that switches back and forth before the field enters the Esses. Tony Stewart made his winning pass in that corner on Robby Gordon in 2001.
@XxRhino96xX Also, there were 2 different pit lanes. they got rid of the other pit lane (to the right, after the final turn) in 2002 or 2003. I dont recall.
If Jeff and Ray Evernham were still together they'd have 100+ wins by now. It's tough in this era to remain competitive with the car changes, new talent, and new crew chiefs. Atleast he's in the top 12 that's all that matters at this point in the season.
I know Gordon should have 6 Trophies. 04 should of won but switched to nextel, and 07, dominated season, would of won by over 430pts. But Nextel cup messed it up. Man i hate that bs
That may be a different season because in 1998, he was involved in the second lap wreck at Texas and Rusty spun us with under 30 laps to go at Richmond in June.
go jeff. man i really miss the days when there was actully 35 or so different teams and each of them would have a chance at the top 10. not like today where theres only 4 or 5 teams

earnhardt may have a better career, but from 1995-1999 gordon was better than anybody in history, plain and simple.

Gordon was one of the first to dedicate testing sessions just to road courses. Man, he was dominant at Sears Point and the Glen too.

The Road Course King!!!

Jeff is a road course King. He was robbed this year by Jimmie"cheater"Johnson. Jeff is still the best in the business.

Jeff Gordon was amazing that year. Never again will we see that kind of domination. He literally had only 2 bad finishes the whole year.
