Not wanting to sound smug, it's so frustrating when people watch 1 or 2 episodes and say they're bored. But someone who'd find X factor, jersey shore, csi, kim kardashian or sweet 16 more interesting compared to this show are just a tad simple
For me, Breaking Bad is THE show. But I've never seen Wire. Almost bought it on Amazon a few times, looks like now might be the time I press that basket button.
But check out Breaking Bad. It's not like the wire, but it has an epic story and great characters.
@georginiou I'm a huge of Breaking Bad, it's a really smart show and it's up there with the very best.
The Wire is unique though. There really is nothing to touch it. It is unquestionably the most brilliantly insightful piece if television that has ever been made about our society.
@georginiou I actually started watching Breaking Bad when it first aired, back in the Fall of 07' or Spring of 08', I can't remember. It's an INCREDIBLE show, however, after rewatching all 4 seasons of Breaking Bad probably 4 different times, and watching all 5 seasons of The Wire 3-4 times, I'd have to give a slight edge to The Wire. It's just so real; you really cannot compare to any other TV show out there, because they all just pale in comparison to it.
@htownallday281 Well, I bought the boxset of The Wire on Amazon. So if I don't like it, I blame Charlie Brooker, and my own likely position as a fool. Breaking Bad is my favourite because it's not that real! I love the way so much crazy stuff happens, yet it just about stays convincing. But hey, five seasons of Wire, that amounts to about 90 hours of TV viewing.
@georginiou The thing about The Wire, as discussed here, is that it unfolds like a highly intelligent novel. If you're illiterate, if you have an IQ of a snail, or if you're 16(you can type legibly so I'm pretty sure you don't fall into these categories) you'll dislike The Wire. It doesn't start off crazy as hell like BB does, it'll take you 3-4 episodes to realize that it is a damn good show. And just a head's up, season 2 is VERY different than season 1, but it's a great season overall.
@georginiou Most people rank the seasons 4>3>1>2>5, however, I'd go with 1>4>2>3>5. Season 5 is okay, not quite as good as the rest, but compared to other TV shows, season 5 is incredible.
Well, for me (having watched the whole show 1 time), I would rank it 5>3>2>1>4. Somehow season 4 felt very long for me and I wasn't that interested in the corner kids' plot line. Season 5, on the other hand, was just fantastic! ;]
@PurpleHazeNr10 That's strange; most people generally tend to agree that season 5 is the weakest season. To each his own I suppose; a lot of people don't like season 2, however, I love it.

This is off topic, but what is the song that is in the intro?

Does this contain spoilers? I'm guessing it does, but I'm only on season 3 at the moment and don't want anything ruined.

The Wire makes Breaking Bad look like the amateur at the back of the classroom.

@nbasile
He never mentioned the government.
'The Wire highlights these problems but never tries to offer any trite solutions to them'
He's comparing the wire to other one hour 'conveyor belt' tv shows.
