I thank you for sharing your experience, I'm still in the process of watching your videos/journey. I got this from a blood transfusion as a baby and have had it 33 years.. and just found out.. I'm soon to begin these treatments and quite scared, but I guess I have to try to fight this and hope for the best and that it doesn't cause more problems. Fortunately my liver is still in good health, bu I still need treatments.

@choirlady1976 Thank you for watching my video and for your inquiry. I too was scared and my fear kept me from accepting the treatment for 10 years after I learned in 1997 of my Hep C diagnosis. My fear was based on my concern of the suicide warning for patients with pre-existing depression and PTSD. But then I learned I could be treated for these disorders while also taking interferon so in 1998 I began my 1-yr treatment, which was successful and ended 14 months ago.

@protester Of course, I have a lot more to share and I still am dealing with some issues. I have learned that each and every patient is different but many share the same side effects while others don't. All I can say to you is that you must realize the risks, get over your fears and decide whether you're ready or not. If you liver is in good health, why not wait for interferon treatment? I thought mine was in good health but over the years it went stage 4 cirrhosis, so keep getting it checked.

@protester After my biopsy showed that I had scarring and fibrosis on the surface of my liver, I decided I could wait no longer. Don't let your liver get to that point, liver disease provokes anger and a lot of other horrible health issues.

@protester Oh, I started inquiring in about 2005 or so with the VA but they would NOT treat me, a veteran, because I was using marijuana to control some pain issues and I refused to stop and undergo stupid drug abuse treatment. It's stupid because pot was very beneficial to my mental well being and many times prevented or stopped suicidal ideation.

my husband was diagnosed with hep c. he went thru a year of treatment,maxed out our credit card, and that treatment didnt work. his doctor wants to try a different injectible. but with insurance our copay monthly will be almost 700$. ive searched and searched but there is no help out there. i think we've both have given up. so much thanks goes out to our wonderfully crappy insurance highmark blue cross blue shield

It seems that there is a 50/50 chance that treatment will work. That's better than the 1 in 5 chances of 10 years ago. The doctors are supposed to test periodically to make sure the viral count decreases, otherwise, they're supposed to discontinue the medicine if it doesn't appear to work after 12 or so weeks. Sorry you husband went thru a whole year of it - it is very rough treatment. I guess I'm incredibly lucky as the state is covering me. I only pay $6 monthly for the meds.

Thanks, one of the contraindications of the treatment is suicide as a result of depression. So I'm stable and can go on with treatment. I never was suicidal or I never attempted it. But I agree with your point. It's what kept me from getting treatment the last 10 years. It was never explained that the damage depression medicine does to your liver outweighs the risk of not taking medicine.

Bill, Thanks for sharing this, maybe we can journal our experiences at the same time, which may help others to come forward, too. It's hard keeping a secret like we have. I'm also on anti-depressants, its hard not to be depressed when you're ill. But hopefully, having people like eachother and others here on YouTube to share our raw and real experiences with, we won't be alone in it and we can draw strength from eachother!
