I custom ordered my bass with you and this instrument in mind. Mine will be a Eliezer Lara Custom 6 string (I'm from BRAZIL). I will use Aero pickups, Aguilar OBP-3 preamp, a korina neck/body (set-neck), brazilizan rosewood fingerboard, and Gotoh bridge/tuners. I can't wait until it's finished. Thank you so much for being my inspiration. Strong work mr. Greg Bagley!!!! PEACE
@maigles "Oh My God!!! how long did that take you to learn. I wouldn't leave the house for a year and my kid would wonder who his daddy is. Strong work bro."
prob took him a week - bloody naturals :) gotta love em - will subscribe to your channel dude wanna see what else your up to
Not bad. But you should have tried to do the "Smokin's at the half Note" version with about 5:minutes if octaves and chord solo, No transcription that I know of either.
I find this astonishing. You play the complex solo so accurately that I needed another commenter to tell me you're playing along with Wes on the record!. Can't put a hair between him and you.
Nice work chief. I didn't realize you were playing over Wes' solo. I thought you were playing with a chorus pedal. I must ask if you would play the song with a chorus pedal to simulate playing with Wes?
very impressive! I only play the bass part on this song with a bass :-P it is interesting you chose to play the guitar solo on your bass, but it sounds good! Do you have your bass tuned differently at all?
My dad's been in the buisness since Wes was a boy and he claims that he played a six string precision ordered special from Fender. If you're keen I could ask if he has any more info on this.
Thanks. It's in D. What scale to use depends on what kind of sound you want to get and what chords you're playing over though. There's no simple answer!
The form revolves around G minor. The entire song is based around the minor ii half diminished V i in the key of G with a cycle of ii Vs and then a short modulation Bb major. But mostly It's actually in G minor.
dude, your time feel is pretty spot on, I don't know if you were going for the EXACT same phrase and note lengths, but if you were, the only thing I could possibly say about it is that every now and then, the duration of the notes is SLIGHTLY off,...but kick ass none the less.
Man! This is awesome, you are really talented, I have enough trouble playing Wes' stuff on guitar never mind friggi' bass! Plus I'm a shredder which doesn't help either..haha
You can see prices on Chris Stambaugh's website. Mine is a bolt on, but it also has RMC piezo pickups and midi electronics which brought the price up. Partly semi-hollow as well. Still, you're not going to find a better price on a custom bass! Chris Stambaugh does great work.
Well done. Gotta love Wes. Being a 6-string bassist myself, I was inspired by Oscar Pettiford's use of cello in a "lead bass" role. I think he would have really dug the solo possibilities of the 6-string electric.
Wow my man - that's the best version of 4 & 6 have heard and it's played on a bass! Great use of pitch shifter for the classic octave sound too. Keep it up!
nice, i really like the tone and somethin tells me you might know a little about what ur doin, lol. but do you know where i can get any 6 string bass tabs? i can't read standard notation so i can't transcribe anything... if anyone could help that'd be great
I figured all this out by ear. You don't need to know how to read music to learn things like this, but I would definitely suggest you start to think about learning standard notation. It will be a tremendous help with anything musical you do in the future.
It's a full 19mm spacing. I love it wide like that for fingerstyle stuff. Though for wider chord fingerings it's a bit of a stretch sometimes. Chris does great work and his pricing is the best. Especially since he's so open to fully customizing whatever you want.
My new Kinal Acoustic 6-string bass is tuned a little higher, starting on a low D. Not sure about 7-strings, but I've got some ideas for a hollowbody 8-string, tuned from a bass' low E and up in 4hs from there. But that's a ways away. I don't plan on saving for any new basses anytime soon.
Very Nice Dude, First time i hear Wes Montgomery on a bass, sounds good. Im transcribing Four On Six solo too, but its the other version, the one on the album : Smokin at the half note. Anyway good job dude
