  • On BASS? Props to you man!

  • nice tone,

you really got the phrasing perfect,

    dynamics and all

  • very nice!!

  • Cool buddy !!! cheers from Mexico !!!

  • i cant even do it on guitar

  • nice!!!

  • Cool , hearing it on six string bass!

  • damn nice work!

  • good work brother! but can you play it only with your thumb? (like Wes did) ;>

  • you are one talented guy!

  • You are the man! (next to Wes, that is).

  • do you slow the music down witha program to learn it?

  • @sesspleftocore - Not usually. I try to just listen to sections over and over again until I get it in my head well enough to figure it out.

  • @GBagley haha. well nice. Upload another video sometime soon why dont ya!? plz

  • I custom ordered my bass with you and this instrument in mind. Mine will be a Eliezer Lara Custom 6 string (I'm from BRAZIL). I will use Aero pickups, Aguilar OBP-3 preamp, a korina neck/body (set-neck), brazilizan rosewood fingerboard, and Gotoh bridge/tuners. I can't wait until it's finished. Thank you so much for being my inspiration. Strong work mr. Greg Bagley!!!! PEACE

  • aaw but you stopped right before he starts playing with octaves. It was the easiest part for me to transcribe but the hardest part for me to play

  • Very Well Done.

  • I did a version of this solo too, have a long on my vids. Nice work on the bass!

  • OH MY GOD!!

  • Most excellent.

  • awesome!

  • Very sweet man

  • amazing...

  • i am impressed.

  • Incredible...

  • well done!!!!

  • Oh My God!!! how long did that take you to learn. I wouldn't leave the house for a year and my kid would wonder who his daddy is. Strong work bro.

  • I worked on it on and off for a couple weekends I think.

  • @maigles "Oh My God!!! how long did that take you to learn. I wouldn't leave the house for a year and my kid would wonder who his daddy is. Strong work bro."

prob took him a week - bloody naturals :) gotta love em - will subscribe to your channel dude wanna see what else your up to

  • Fabulous!

  • Wes's solos are so deceptively simple. He was a musical genius.

  • Hey dude, great job ! I'm gonna work on it ! Thx for this astonishing transcription !

  • Not bad. But you should have tried to do the "Smokin's at the half Note" version with about 5:minutes if octaves and chord solo, No transcription that I know of either.

  • I love the sections where you're forced to play the an octave lower than the recording... sounds sick. Great work, my friend.

  • could i get this tab...hm wait it wudnt matter

i need it for 6 string elec guitar... poop

    can uhelp me out?

  • I don't use tabs. Good luck though!

  • Great Job, GBagley!!!

    Do it to it...

  • pick it out yourself, you'll be amazed how much you learn that way!

  • I find this astonishing. You play the complex solo so accurately that I needed another commenter to tell me you're playing along with Wes on the record!. Can't put a hair between him and you.

  • This is really great. I've been working on this solo a lot lately. Wes can swing like a son of a bitch, and I think you have a good feel for it.

  • Nice work chief. I didn't realize you were playing over Wes' solo. I thought you were playing with a chorus pedal. I must ask if you would play the song with a chorus pedal to simulate playing with Wes?

  • thats really good. musically and technically

  • very impressive! I only play the bass part on this song with a bass :-P it is interesting you chose to play the guitar solo on your bass, but it sounds good! Do you have your bass tuned differently at all?

  • Thanks. Standard tuning (BEADGC).

  • My dad's been in the buisness since Wes was a boy and he claims that he played a six string precision ordered special from Fender. If you're keen I could ask if he has any more info on this.

  • ooo ok....no i mean what scale\modes have u used in the vdo?...im more of a pentatonic of a guy so i'm new to this stuff

  • nicee jobb man...can u please tell me what key "four on six" is in?....and scale is used? i need help with my jazz man :-p

  • Thanks. It's in D. What scale to use depends on what kind of sound you want to get and what chords you're playing over though. There's no simple answer!

  • The form revolves around G minor. The entire song is based around the minor ii half diminished V i in the key of G with a cycle of ii Vs and then a short modulation Bb major. But mostly It's actually in G minor.

  • very nice work , how long did you take to learn it all ?

In this time I am mad for studing , bob mintzer

  • If I remember right, I spent a couple weekends working on it, on and off.

  • dude, your time feel is pretty spot on, I don't know if you were going for the EXACT same phrase and note lengths, but if you were, the only thing I could possibly say about it is that every now and then, the duration of the notes is SLIGHTLY off,...but kick ass none the less.

  • i cant even play it on guitar!!!

    your unreal !

  • sounds great man, which album is this off? got so many versions of wes playing this!

  • This one is off of "The Incredible Jazz Guitar"

  • Sick!

  • thtas a lot of time and effort dude

    great work!

  • now if you could only improvise that ... jk, sounds great!

  • Seriously, I wish!

  • great job

  • niiice!!!

  • That is crazy!

  • sweet

  • I learned the 1st 30 sec of this 2 years ago then quit I know I can play it for sure by now

  • man you are awesome!

  • w00t!! This is freaking awsome! Really! Perfect!

  • Man! This is awesome, you are really talented, I have enough trouble playing Wes' stuff on guitar never mind friggi' bass! Plus I'm a shredder which doesn't help either..haha

  • how much did that custom bass cost you?

  • It's like $2100 if bolt-on, $2500 if neck-through. That's if it's standard.

  • You can see prices on Chris Stambaugh's website. Mine is a bolt on, but it also has RMC piezo pickups and midi electronics which brought the price up. Partly semi-hollow as well. Still, you're not going to find a better price on a custom bass! Chris Stambaugh does great work.

  • great tone

  • excelente, senor!

  • haha nice pitch shifter j/k

  • Very clean... nice work

  • Wonderful job man !

  • in which album can i find this version ? i(ve got an other record but not same solo.. thank you

  • This version is on "The Incredible Jazz Guitar"

  • perfect!

  • Well done. Gotta love Wes. Being a 6-string bassist myself, I was inspired by Oscar Pettiford's use of cello in a "lead bass" role. I think he would have really dug the solo possibilities of the 6-string electric.

  • AMAZING

  • will you post a video showing off all of your basses?

  • Absolutely amazing. Great job!!

  • That...was perfectly done. i was expecting the bass part. but wow. damn

  • man, i cant wait to get a six string, it looks like so much fun! great job by the way

  • Amazing!!!

  • My apologies - that makes it even better. Cheers

  • Wow my man - that's the best version of 4 & 6 have heard and it's played on a bass! Great use of pitch shifter for the classic octave sound too. Keep it up!

  • Pitch shifter? I'm not using any effects...

  • He thinks the track you're playing along with is a pitch shifter. Shows how well you're timing is!

  • holy wow!!

  • HA! Great!!!

  • Great job man.

    Sounds nice!

  • Man, that's nice.

How many bass guitars do you got, if I may ask?

  • I've got 6 at the moment

  • You rule!

  • nice, i really like the tone and somethin tells me you might know a little about what ur doin, lol. but do you know where i can get any 6 string bass tabs? i can't read standard notation so i can't transcribe anything... if anyone could help that'd be great

  • I figured all this out by ear. You don't need to know how to read music to learn things like this, but I would definitely suggest you start to think about learning standard notation. It will be a tremendous help with anything musical you do in the future.

  • awesome.... dude.. awesome ......

  • Hi!Great job!!! great sound! But how old are you?

  • Thanks. I'm 21

  • Me too..I can't quite do this tune on guitar. Kudos, mate, great job.

  • on a fucking bass! jesus christ!!

  • Holy fuck

  • awesome dude how do u play jazz its so perfect man and sound so good its that warwick bass ??? ok keep it up man....

  • What is the string spacing on that beauty? I am ordering one soon. Chris is a great builder!

  • It's a full 19mm spacing. I love it wide like that for fingerstyle stuff. Though for wider chord fingerings it's a bit of a stretch sometimes. Chris does great work and his pricing is the best. Especially since he's so open to fully customizing whatever you want.

  • Getting up there on the C string... maybe your next Stammie should be a 7, eh? haha :) sounds good!

  • My new Kinal Acoustic 6-string bass is tuned a little higher, starting on a low D. Not sure about 7-strings, but I've got some ideas for a hollowbody 8-string, tuned from a bass' low E and up in 4hs from there. But that's a ways away. I don't plan on saving for any new basses anytime soon.

  • you're amazing...sounds unbelievable

  • I use light gague / low tension strings (TI Jazz Rounds) and keep my action fairly low.

  • If Wes picked up a bass, this is what he would sound like!

    Awesome man!

  • Thanks. Wes is the master and one of my all time faves!

  • This is my fav version of 4 on 6,-I also worked out this solo,-but on 6 string;-How the hell you've done this on bass amazes me!-effortless!

  • beautiful man, great fucking job

  • Great playing!

  • love that very last riff!!! awesome bro:) it all lined up sweet

  • gosh, you are the man. I love the clips you've posted on TB as well. Great job, man.

  • beautiful, thanks.

  • jus looveley

  • Man you are sick!!!!!

  • That's awesome.

  • ta weno bk

  • Very Nice Dude, First time i hear Wes Montgomery on a bass, sounds good. Im transcribing Four On Six solo too, but its the other version, the one on the album : Smokin at the half note. Anyway good job dude

  • out of tune and every note was wrong, plus timing was off!! (just kidding) FANTASTIC ... 5 stars!! :)

  • wow tite, beautiful bass

  • very nice

  • Man that Stamy sounds good in every application.

  • As lovely as the first one. Probably going to order me a set of those TIs too :).

  • Amazing

  • Love it!
