@gmccall22 chi-town can never compete with the NY/NJ SOUND .....our sound always has had more soul...because for us it's all about the vocals...the "attytude"...from SYLVESTER to MARTHA WASH to ADEVA to BARBARA ROY to JOCELYN BROWN...i could keep going on but i think you know what i mean....LOL....
@gmccall22 no doubt....of course chi-town does have bad joints....it's just that they forgot where it all originated from......but it's all good...i can bang out with anybody who does appreciate this music and what it means and what it does....lol.....
THE LAST SET OF KLUB ZANZIBAR 430 BROAD STREET NEWARK, NJ. THIS WAS A STAPLE SONG AND ANTHEM AS WE WERE ABOUT TO ENTER THE DAYLIGHT AFTER HOURS OF KLUB MUZIK. I MISS THOSE DAY'S BACK IN THE LATE 70'S AND 80'S. THE 90'S USHERED IN A NEW WAVE OF LESS MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS AND TRUE VOCAL JEWELS LIKE THIS HIT. DAMN CAN SOMEONE BRING IT BACK. TRUE TALENT IS MISSING TODAY.
@DEZINE5 what up dunn........this is another club banger...i love mixing this with my all time favourite..."let's get together"by pam todd....the remake of this by jomanda is banging too.......
People just love putting a tag on things, calling music by a different nake, pigeon holing it. Deep House, Funk whatever you want to call it ITS SOUL!!!!! As deep as you like AND SOME! Sounds Of Unity and Love!!!
I stumble upon this by accident. Awesome song except for one thing. The guitar player! Ugh! Why didn't he solo through the chord changes instead of that 1 note repitition crap? OH MY GOD, THAT PART WAS HARD TO LISTEN TO.
I remember when this came out , the melodic chord was by design to "bop" , "new bop" to and or shuffle to (called stepping these days) was one of the many dances at that time. Songs of this sort had to be steady and mid tempo. The Rainbow Brown version doesn't have the guitar as much but plays up the strings and drums more.
@deelowda1 No, this is produced by Patrick Adams and Greg Carmichael. This is very much their sound! Check out Phreek, Universal Robot Band or Musique for example, you will get it!
ron hardy used to play this about 4 o'clock in the mourning when his buddies would start to hustle we would give them the floor and watch them get down and show the late people how to dance with finesse alright ronniee hardy may you rest in peace
I first got a taste of this at the Musicbox or the "Box" back in the day...talk about a major musical education! I wonder who wrote it cuz it's so well written and melodic
Man I wish I could fo back to the 80's in chicago. I miss the old spots, Medusa's, The Bismark Hotel, Rivera's, AKA's, The warehouse, Edge of the looking glass, The reactor and many many many other spots. This generation will never understand back in the day chicago.
Oh my god they used to play this song at Twin city skating rink in newark, what a nice way to put people ou when it's time to go, god I miss those days!!!!, I'm so thankful I found it on here
Must gives props to club "Better Days" in New York City in 1978. Thank you Patrick Adams and Greg Carmichael of Harlem, New York City, for a great production.
Lol....Port2344chester you are right and beside this song was a great when you have to let a chick go....just put it on your answering machine and let it do the rest...lol back then. No matter what the situation was going on in my as far as dating I always had a song if I could not find the words!

Back in the early 80tys at the Cheetha Club in Paterson,NJ on sunday was Tee Scoots night the Tee party and this was his first record he would play to start the night on the floor dancing by myself free styling.
R.I.P. ....LARRY LEVAN I can still hear ya spinning those golden traxs & this was one of many on the wheels of steel. You are missed BIG TIME bru!...Again R.I.P.........
Listen up yongsters this is what ya call SOUL MUSIC... i was raised on this just like gov. cheese yes i was pour ...but man i would not change anything @ all. My family friends & i were/our RICH with peace love & soul..traxs like this dont exist 2day....winning a lottery ticket cant buy you soul...either you are born with it or you arent. Piece coming from a true NEW YORKER!!
i bought this record in 1980 to spin at parties,OMG the reaction I got when i first started to play it, was wtf is he playing, after a couple of more plays every sat nite, at same location, they caught on to it, dancing with their eyes closed, in a deep trance. I luv this song till 2day, it will never play out.
This tune has me in a trance all over again.. im from the BIG APPLE & that era/time in life music will never be seen again. Hearing this joint blaring from a boom box or someones house window. In the BIG APPLE diversity was their.. latin grooves, soulful tunes boogie tunes, r & b..talent throughout. You could go into any of the 5 boroughs & have a block party or witness local bands jammin on stoops. Ahh miss ther golden days.
...and these young'uns i work with can't understand why i miss the "good old days"....they'll never know what it was like to hear this in the GARAGE...all 2000 of us in a spell under the mirror balls........oh my......
this song was the one the girls use to breakup with there men with at the clubs, zanzabar, sensations, doc's.wow how i remember that was the good old days.
Love this song, but the Personal Touch version of "It Ain't No Big Thing" on Patrick Adams' P&P label from mid-1977 is better I think, if shorter (7" only) Same backing track? I wouldn't be surprised!
@drwhatson I think Donna Mcghee's vocal control was better on her "Make it last forever" LP than her first group Personal Touch 1976. Her vocals were smoother and the arrangement tighter. Patrick Adams magic touch on 3 of the best covers on this song. Fonda Raes vocal cover in the Rainbow Brown LP are nice too , but Greg Carmicheal took heavier hand with the strings and the bass with guitar was played down. The Ten City's cover is missing that sultriness.
Oh yeah, I definitely remember. What about the infamous club "Shaniques"? Damn, those were the days. I get home sick, everytime I hear an old club song, from back in the day. Born and raised in Brick City...
Aaaaaaaaaaaah this was the shit at the zanzabar, the better days, buttermilk bottom, bonnie and clydes, the 9th floor and all the other hot spots in nyc and newark, does anyone remember hanging out at any of these clubs in the 80s and 90 holla back boomcc1
This is what you play when it's time to get rid of your man or woman, dance while you're throwing they're shit out!!! while singing the hook, that's what you tell them, hell, helped me trough some tough break-ups one listen I was instantly over my heartache back on the prowl. @attaalib That fast pitch is Chicago style. The pitch is perfect for NY. (LMAO) It took me a while to get used to my peoples from Chicago's tapes. They had the Sho'Nuff Jams, but Godt-Dayum, So FAST!

HA HA Yeaaaah. You just brought back memories with that statement. Really was quite difficult to blend this one. GREAT song nevertheless.

I used to blend Pam Todd Exchange's "Let get Together with this. I found it to be best song to use.

You are so right... I had an old tape cassette with that blend.

I used to dance to this song in the clubs with that mix. The singing styles were very similiar. Great song!!
