It's real. They use elastic, shiny cloth instead of steel and plastic.

The point to make this car is: Make it as smooth as possible, let it adapt its aerodynamics to different driving conditions, and to make it more friendly to the environment for two reasons: With so little metal and other materials, the impact on nature is much less. And secondly: Without a steel body, the car will weigh perhaps as little as 25% of an ordinary car. Your mileage will never be the same again. :D

Forget a rip, someone might not put a key to it, but they'll leave a huge gash in it. Who knows how many times the skin would need to be replaced. This is like getting a new paintjob everytime your car gets a scratch.

watch the vid, this isnt cloth like your clothes, it is very very strong. just like in the first days of powered flight, aircraft were covered with fabric, and covered with protective coats. only this stuff is space age material.

IM SICK OF PEOPLE SAYING..."WHAT IF YOUR GET A RIP" of course its prone to tearing. im sure they realised this when they designed it! its like saying what if your current car gets a flat tire or a scratch. you have to replace it obviously. And a fabric skin would cost less than than replacing tires or a metal panel. (with paint and labour involved) ITS A CONCEPT CAR. EVERYBODY RELAX.
