  • How can I persuade my parents to get one

  • @josheeeyy tell them that their entire lives have been leading up to this point and that it's their destiny to get you one.

  • I want one.

  • 数あるAshbory Bassの動画で、この人が一番イイ音してますね。

    しかしピッチは取りづらそうだ~ ・・

  • a small bass with 5 strings ^^

  • Is it a fretless Ashbory?

  • All Ashborys are fretless, they only have fretmarks on the neck

  • Thank you for your information.. I had just learned that about 20 minutes.. Thank you though. Great video by the way!

  • good!! is it easy to play? or its harder than standard basS??

  • thanks )) well, I would say it's harder because of a smaller scale and because of the different "feel" of the silicone strings

  • well, i was saving up for a hofner copy. but now it can fuck off.

  • does this bass use in psychobilly too & gothabilly ^_^

  • I think the idea is really cool, but i'm not sure i like the sound but it might just sound wierd coz it was recorded from a camera.

Doesn't it feel a bit wierd with silicon strings though?

  • The sound depends on the amp a lot. The camera mic doesn't pick up all the lows, and there are a lot of them :)

The strings do feel kind of strange, they are too loose and floopy, but you get used to it. The most disadvantage of the strings is that they stick to your fingers, so you can't do slides.

  • Wipe the strings down with some baby powder before you play and they won't be so sticky. The scale still makes slides difficult to do with any kind of intonation, but the baby powder helps.

  • Thats what she said.

  • @Yari117

i've read that you can to dust the strings with talc powder to make easier to play

  • @pullingstraws200206 Right, but it will also cover your hands and everything in the house ))))

  • Haha, sorry, this isn't any style i'm used to so it makes me think of Blues Clues, when Steve is on the thinking chair brain storming :D

  • emm... just playing with my fingers ))) Sorry, I don't get the question

  • can u grease up the strings instead of powdering them?

  • there was a talk about that on the Ashbory forum, someone tried to oil the strings, but that didn't work out. The strings got sticky ))

As for me I neither powder nor grease them, it's fine for me to play as it is.

  • good job

  • Very nice, considering it was new for you at the time. I bet you have the intonation done now.

  • Thank you! Yeah, I suppose my intonation is better now )

  • I actually thought it was great to being with, since I was playing one the other day and found myself sliding up the neck a little at the THIRD fret, which shows I'm not a bass player. ; ) I guess it's all about the ear in the middle of the neck on a fretless.

  • I feel like an idiot, but what's an Ashbory? It looks like a tiny bass.

  • It's a short scale fretless bass with silicon rubber strings ))

  • hahah my brother has the same bass

  • Don't you have to wipe your hands with stuff before playing that bass?

  • Well, they do say so on the website. I haven't tried it though I don't feel some discomfort while playing. Slides with your left hand don't work cause the string stick's to the finger, maybe with that powder it would be posiible to do slides, but that's not a big deal for me ))

  • is that bass smaller then a regular bass neck

  • what do you think????

  • ummmm yes ahahah

  • Cool. Sounds like you are trying a new scale length. I like the song.

  • Oh hell yeah ) the scale is almost half of the usual bass one )

  • Work on intonation a little.

    Other than that, great.

  • Doesn't sound too bad, actually... but seems the ultra short scale length makes it hard to play properly in tune (definitely needs practice, I can see!). Not meant in a negative way, it's just an observation. I've been playing fretless bass and upright for a long time, and know that the further up the neck you come, the closer the notes are, and the harder it is to play in tune. I expect this to be the same on this instrument. :)

  • you're absolutely right there! Fretmarks above the 12th fret on this bass go very dense and it requires very accurate fingering there, I'll keep on practicing ))

  • If you turn your treble and mids up and your bass down some, you might be able to get a more upright sound from it.

  • lol i think his treble is turned down max cos it sounds good

  • I didn't say it sounded bad, it sounds like a nice fretless electric, but for a woodier sound, you gotta get that high end in there.

  • Thanks for the advice. I'm still tweaking the "best upright sound" preset...

  • In my modest opinion, you'd benefit from keeping your left hand absolutely perpendicular towards the fretboard and not bend it. This way you'd have better control of the tuning. Also, don't use electric bass fingering with your right hand, try plucking much closer to the fretboard, with less attack. You'll get a much deeper, acoustic sound... Cheers! you have nice long fingers for the bass!

  • You are right ) Figured that out the other day already, plucking closer to the fretboard produces much warmer sound, closer to an upright.

  • Is that a standard jazz tune or is it your own original composition?

  • Oh no. Found that tune somewhere in the internet as a MIDI file, then imported it into GuitarPro and got the tab )) Can't remember the name of the thing right now.

  • This is good man! Thanks :)

  • Sounds nothing like an upright bass does... it sounds exactly what it looks like.

  • Well... maybe. But at least it sounds somewhat closer to an upright than an ordinary fretless bass does ))
