3:11 -Ha!! Man, you've got everything nailed, great ear. I used to play a lot of these when I was younger, but not with a pick and definitely not as tight as this! Totally enjoyed this, now gonna check out Gates of Delirium, my fav. Squire bass line!
what a great bass song, you just don't hear that great bass playing anymore, you play it perfectly, love the band, love that song, you really made my day, nice work
@TheUrukhai1 sorry for the late reply. I'm glad that you "found" Chris and Yes. Wish you all the good moments that they gave and give me. Best regards.
Migual applause!!! One of the most wonderfull base line in the world ever!! I love Parallels and every time i concentrate on the excellent bass picks. thank you for your play!!!
@miguelbass Ah, yes! And how awesome FooW is! Great bass compositions in that one, eh? I have been listening to "Silently Falling" almost excessively here lately haha
Miguel, you did a great job on this difficult tune. You even did a better job of making your bass sound like Squires' bass sound than anyone I've heard cover this tune here on Youtube. Great job !!!!
I agree Miguel, this song has so much power and contains arguably one of the most awesome bass lines ever! It's certainly one of my Yes faves along with many others, including Chris' solo work....Run With The Fox and Fish Out of Water namely. :)
i started learning this bassline a while back and watching you play it i see where ive been going wrong chris squires basslines have an amazing groove to them thats hard to get right but you got it perfect
@bezkingAdmins I use 45-105 - it's Chris' gauge too... I suggest you start trying on that one. Sometimes you might not adapt right away if you were used to lighter strings but let yourself build some strength and check also if your bass is properly setup to the string gauge you use. Good luck!
Miguel, agree with your comments all the way. Of Yes' shorter tunes, this ranks up with Roundabout as the best. Love the bass. It has some Howe's best guitar work, particularly the middle solo and outro. Love watching you play.
@musiclover59 Thanks again! Steve's work is really wonderful here. I also adore the rhythm guitar work he did, if you have watched the video boots from the studio sessions you'll see what I mean - just "simple" chords.
@kuybytkj I hope they are the original J-bass pickups :) But I used my ampeg SVTII-pro head (IIRC), the strings were brand new (blue steels). Thanks :)
You git! How can you flaunt you talent so shamelesly? Chris Squire is a god. Now I can see why. That's an awsome bass line and it was fantastic to see and hear the detail like that. If it's not clear, I loved your rendition and sound. Gorgeous!
@eekypoo You mean I should do something else? I plan to put some of my own stuff here as I did already but I feel good too doing what I do because I believe it's just as valid if you do what you love. Thanks for the kind words!
@miguelbass That would be great to see some of your own stuff. If you're going to do any more more Yes (Chris Squire) how about Ritual? Either way keep up the brilliant bass lines
@janny108 Thanks :) That was courtesy of a good friend who is a very talented cartoonist, btw. Oh, yes I play in 2 bands currently... but not this kind :)
Again awesome job. I haven't figured out much Yes on bass myself, but I am inspired to work on it after watching your videos. I do like to warm up playing the intro riff from "I'm running" though.
Dude - I've really been diggin' your Yes covers. Love your work and attention to detail! It was listening to Mr. Squire that got me playing bass so many, many years ago...
I feel this is Yes' best album by far. This is the tour I saw them on in 1978. Steve Howe was voted "Best Guitarist" for his excellent work on this album. Wakeman's keyboards were recorded in a real church using one of the largest pipe organs in the world. Awaken is in my will to be played at my funeral. I was blown away when I saw this concert and Yes became my favorite right then. You have a really great hold on Squire's style and hit every perfect pitch and position. The Fender sounds good.
That was back in the days when good musicianship was appreciated, even commercially. I remember hearing that Chris also won best Bass Player awards for many years in a row. Thanks for watching!
I tend to agree that the bass on the album was less than enough.. It sounded way better on the available footage during the actual recording in Switzerland. Merry Xmas.
Alright well I've seen a few of your works now, and I gotta say, again... that you nail it brother. Absolutely awesome. and I know my Yes and Squire stuff.
I notice most of your videos use the Rickenbacker, however the tone you get from the Jazz bass here is amazing; close your eyes and its difficult to believe it a jazz bass, well you know what I mean. :)
Watching your great performance reminds me when I saw Yes in 1977 in San Diego, Calif. They opened the show with this song. Thanks for a terrific video and sparking great memories.
Although I played the studio version I tried to make the sound closer to the live version (ex:Yesshows) that has more bottom. I prefer that tone too. Thanks!
I simply had them and they were brand new. They do last quite longer and I can't change strings every day (or month). I think Chris' correct string model is RS66LD.
By the way Miguel. Are you part of any Yes tribute band..? With your skills I would say if you get deacent drummer, singer, guitaris & organ guy with you you could bring that message to thousands of other people. Yes music really is something special, no doubt about it...
