    Stephan Fiedler

  • @step2fiedler Hi Stephan. Thank you for your invitation. Of course if I ever get that chance it will be a pleasure! Greetings from Portugal!

  • @miguelbass Ah, yes! And how awesome FooW is! Great bass compositions in that one, eh? I have been listening to "Silently Falling" almost excessively here lately haha

  • Respond to this video...In fact part of "Silently Falling" is pretty well re-used in the studio run-through of "Turn of the Century"

  • Miguel! If you ever make it to Seattle we should jam!

  • @MauiBoyTrav One never knows! :)

  • Muito bom !!!

  • @busketa Abraço. amigo!

  • A merry YESmas to you Miguel. from Pete in the UK

  • @maccafan10 Hi Pete. I'm back.. Thank you and happy new year to you!

  • Miguel, you did a great job on this difficult tune. You even did a better job of making your bass sound like Squires' bass sound than anyone I've heard cover this tune here on Youtube. Great job !!!!

  • @orangemod Thank you very much. It's been a long time favourite and it was one of the first songs I really wanted to cover.

  • oh look i have a pic

  • I love Yes, Very cool!

  • @johnzep100 Thank you!

  • I agree Miguel, this song has so much power and contains arguably one of the most awesome bass lines ever! It's certainly one of my Yes faves along with many others, including Chris' solo work....Run With The Fox and Fish Out of Water namely. :)

  • @gmmakesmehurl Parallels seems to be a leftover from FooW, I read it somewhere :) Thanks for writing!

  • i started learning this bassline a while back and watching you play it i see where ive been going wrong chris squires basslines have an amazing groove to them thats hard to get right but you got it perfect

  • @pinkfloydrule27 Thanks! I'm glad I could help in a way. Have fun!

  • What gauge strings do you use? Im looking at buying some pro steels but im not sure what gauge is right for me

  • @bezkingAdmins I use 45-105 - it's Chris' gauge too... I suggest you start trying on that one. Sometimes you might not adapt right away if you were used to lighter strings but let yourself build some strength and check also if your bass is properly setup to the string gauge you use. Good luck!

  • Miguel. You rock!

  • @eekypoo :) thanks!

  • well done...nice bass!

  • @FunkInDaPocket47 thank you very much!

  • Sweet! Excellent work - you got the groove going, too - I agree - one of the best all-time rock bass lines. Keep it coming!

  • @beachmenow Thank you so much, I'll keep trying!

  • Bravissimo, complimenti. Davvero fantastico.

  • @FillHippo Grazie! Thanks for watching :)

  • Aí portuga! Muito bom! Parabéns! Logo farei o meu!

    Grande timbre!

    Até mais gajo

  • @AlanGarcia86 Fico a aguardar. Boa sorte e um abraço!

  • Fantastic Show! Awesome :))) Best cover I've ever seen on this site :))) !! Keep doing

  • @SkaterKwik Thank you so much, hope you enjoy the rest of the stuff! Greetings from Portugal!

  • MUSICIANS!!!!! CHECK OUT MY COLLAB PROJECT!!!!!

  • Well Played!

  • @NilezII Thank you!

  • I agree! great song and great bass line. Great job covering.

  • @ibanezsr3000 Thank you very much!

  • Excelent !!! .A beautiful song and a good bass performance.Thank you!

  • @chikkhai thank you!

  • Did you guys ever notice the organ in this song ? The whole album has a huge pipe organ recorded in a cathedral.

  • @sporsterini Yes, via phone line. There is footage where the band is playing while Rick is at the Church, and Steve, Chris, and Alan at the studio.

  • Truly excellent!!

  • @OcalaMusician Thank you very much :)

  • Miguel, agree with your comments all the way. Of Yes' shorter tunes, this ranks up with Roundabout as the best. Love the bass. It has some Howe's best guitar work, particularly the middle solo and outro. Love watching you play.

  • @musiclover59 Thanks again! Steve's work is really wonderful here. I also adore the rhythm guitar work he did, if you have watched the video boots from the studio sessions you'll see what I mean - just "simple" chords.

  • Ha! I see you even use the jazz as Chris did on this one. Yet it still has his sound, doesn't it?

Your homage to him is admirable. A true bass genius.

  • @plangentmusic Thank you very much! This is one of my heart-loving Yessongs and basslines!

  • what are these pickups?(:

    sounds very good!

  • @kuybytkj I hope they are the original J-bass pickups :) But I used my ampeg SVTII-pro head (IIRC), the strings were brand new (blue steels). Thanks :)

  • You git! How can you flaunt you talent so shamelesly? Chris Squire is a god. Now I can see why. That's an awsome bass line and it was fantastic to see and hear the detail like that. If it's not clear, I loved your rendition and sound. Gorgeous!

  • @eekypoo You mean I should do something else? I plan to put some of my own stuff here as I did already but I feel good too doing what I do because I believe it's just as valid if you do what you love. Thanks for the kind words!

  • @miguelbass That would be great to see some of your own stuff. If you're going to do any more more Yes (Chris Squire) how about Ritual? Either way keep up the brilliant bass lines

  • You are very talented Miguel! Are you in a band? Oh and your backside on the album cover is a humorous touch too!

  • @janny108 Thanks :) That was courtesy of a good friend who is a very talented cartoonist, btw. Oh, yes I play in 2 bands currently... but not this kind :)

  • beautiful bass, Miguel !

  • Thank you very much :)

  • Ecstatic.

  • thanks you!

  • Excellent cover. The tone sounds just like the way I run my sansamp too, when I use my parts-made Jazz Bass with 70s spacing.

  • Thank you! Bass greetings!

  • Brilliant:-))

  • Thanks :)

  • superb !!! if you can check out some of my videos, i would appreciatte your reviews!!!

  • Thanks my friend!

  • what strings do you use? try Rotosound nickels! (black box)

  • Thanks, then im going to buy the sansamp soon.

  • Did you get this kinda rickenbacker sound thanks to the sansamp?

  • Yes, also because strings were brand new. My full setup is described at miguelbass..com/faq. just in case... Thanks!

  • You are quite a talent....what a great song to pick to play to show your versatility.... very impressive!

As much as I like the album you sound terrific playing the bass line!

  • Thank you very much! I tried to make a crossover between the album and the Yesshows version, that to me has a much more powerful bass sound.

  • Awesome tone. How did you get that?

  • he's playing with a pick, it makes a punchier sound.

  • Hi Nick, I put a description of my setup at my site, miguelbassdotcom on the faq section. Let me know if you need further info. Thanks.

  • Realmente me gusto mucho, se nota que lo tocas con el corazon. te felicito !! Muy bueno.

  • Muchas gracias. Abraço!

  • A favourite of mine. Well done my friend.

    Andy

  • Hi Andy! Thank you very much :)

  • el sustituto de squire

  • Gracias amigo. Abraço!

  • Again awesome job. I haven't figured out much Yes on bass myself, but I am inspired to work on it after watching your videos. I do like to warm up playing the intro riff from "I'm running" though.

  • I see you found it already... hope your practice goes well! Thanks!

  • Dude - I've really been diggin' your Yes covers. Love your work and attention to detail! It was listening to Mr. Squire that got me playing bass so many, many years ago...

  • Thank you very much, glad you're enjoying it! Nice to know of more players inspired by Chris!

  • No Problem, I love the Ladder Album!

You Should Try The Messenger, that is a great bass lead!!!!

  • One day I'll get there ;) Thanks!

  • I feel this is Yes' best album by far. This is the tour I saw them on in 1978. Steve Howe was voted "Best Guitarist" for his excellent work on this album. Wakeman's keyboards were recorded in a real church using one of the largest pipe organs in the world. Awaken is in my will to be played at my funeral. I was blown away when I saw this concert and Yes became my favorite right then. You have a really great hold on Squire's style and hit every perfect pitch and position. The Fender sounds good.

  • That was back in the days when good musicianship was appreciated, even commercially. I remember hearing that Chris also won best Bass Player awards for many years in a row. Thanks for watching!

  • still wild i cant play it on a tanglewood 4 string acoustic but will keep tryin thanks

  • Thank you for watching!

  • I also lik this song so much !!!! greatgroove, great work.

  • Thanks, gotta love this bassline!

  • Man You Are A Great Bass Player!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you very much:)

  • That's how the bass should sound on Going For The One! Nice work.

  • I tend to agree that the bass on the album was less than enough.. It sounded way better on the available footage during the actual recording in Switzerland. Merry Xmas.

  • Alright well I've seen a few of your works now, and I gotta say, again... that you nail it brother. Absolutely awesome. and I know my Yes and Squire stuff.

  • Thank you very much for the kind words and for watching! Merry Xmas!

  • Oh My GOd. That is one piece of ultimate bass playing. One of my favorite songs.

    You are awesome dude.

  • Thank you very much! One of my faves too!

  • great job!

I notice most of your videos use the Rickenbacker, however the tone you get from the Jazz bass here is amazing; close your eyes and its difficult to believe it a jazz bass, well you know what I mean. :)

  • er sorry for being dumb, chris uses a jazz bass for this song too :) before everybody tells me!

  • Those were very new strings and it made the tone really bright. The Jazz Bass can be quite versatile too :)

  • Really nice! Not only all the right notes but the right feel too, and that's saying something.

  • Thank you! Cheers!

  • Simply amazing!

  • thank you very much!

  • Thanks Paul!

  • when Mr. Squire retires, you have my vote for his replacement! i've watched quite a few of your videos so far, Kudos to you.

  • Thank you very much! Glad you're enjoying!

  • Watching your great performance reminds me when I saw Yes in 1977 in San Diego, Calif. They opened the show with this song. Thanks for a terrific video and sparking great memories.

  • Thanks for sharing your memories with us too! I bet it was awesome!

  • It's funny, but I think your sound is almost better than Chris Squire's. More bottom...

  • Although I played the studio version I tried to make the sound closer to the live version (ex:Yesshows) that has more bottom. I prefer that tone too. Thanks!

  • You got your tribute band here. I like that miguel.

Personally I think that your devotion to Chis Squire, and everything that you have done here is probably the best tribute one could give.

    Keep it up

  • Thank you Paul. Let's keep the wave growing!

  • I simply had them and they were brand new. They do last quite longer and I can't change strings every day (or month). I think Chris' correct string model is RS66LD.

  • MOST impressive. You are alright.

  • Thanks!!

  • very good bass sound!

  • like a big ampeg stack

  • Thank you very much, my friend.

  • By the way Miguel. Are you part of any Yes tribute band..? With your skills I would say if you get deacent drummer, singer, guitaris & organ guy with you you could bring that message to thousands of other people. Yes music really is something special, no doubt about it...

  • My Yes tribute band is right here. I got all members :)

  • i hate asking but do you have a link for a tab? i cant find any :`(

  • I didn't use that... just by ear. But if I bump into something I will tell, maybe on my site. Thanks!

  • WOW!! Only Squire does it better!

  • "Create a new dimension" - that's Chris! Thanks!

  • this is very good this song is hard enough to play as it is but you nail it man well done

  • Thank you Mr!

  • Good job

  • Thanks!

  • from a YES fan from Italy - Miguel, it's simply amazing!!! Wonderful, I can't say more, I have no words...

  • Grazie my friend! Greetings from Portugal.
