Martingale is a great way to lose everything you own in short order, especially in blackjack as progression systems don't overcome the house edge. And anyone that says a strategy in blackjack is "never-lose" is flat out lying to you. Even using the best level 3 count system with full index plays and Kelly betting only gives you a small 1-2% average edge over the house, hardly never-lose.

Spent various weeks in Vegas durring 2009. Tried the Martingale system. DId fairly well at War and Roulette 5 times in a row and pocketed about 2K. If its going to work then best at simple odd games right? I had other nice runs, but all in all six loses in a row came more often than expected. I ended up spending (lost) about 8K. Really not that fun. Should have spent it on cloths. I know some heavy hitters 100k or more. They have made it clear - its a game. Winning is PURE luck. All for fun.

Its good to "restart" at the minimum after a certain amount of wins. I play online .10/20 tables and with this system after i make 5 bucks i restart at the minimum. it's about 20 bucks in an hour and great for someone like me who is in college.
Um you did it wrong...you only double your bet when you lose.You doubled it when you won. Basically you set it up so that they were using the strategy against you.haha.
It's a strategy that's based on losing, but not losing EVERYTHING. I think it's a great strategy if you don't want to win big, but don't want to lose more money than you started out with.
I can see why it didn't work out for you then as you are wrong; the system assumes that you are going to lose eventually (and often, I might add) and THUS you should take those losses into account whilst playing pretty aggressively. You are however taking huge risks if you don't know how to effectively apply this strategy in practice... as easy as it might sound, it's no child's play.

WHY on earth would you think it wise to risk more than your reward on the assumption that probablity will wave its wand and give you your desert before going bust. Let me ask this. If you had $1000 to play with on this system, how many losses could you take before not being able to cover, assuming your first bet is $10. ANSWER 6 losses would cost you a total of$630 meaning at 1:1 you wouldnt have the remaining money to cover this loss.
So on your 7th bet you would have $370. Youve just lost 6 hands in a row (how improbable) would you risk your last $370 to minimise the damage. NEXT QUESTION: REWARD, How many winning bets would you need to have to place to DOUBLE your $1000. $1000/10 a bet would leave you at 101 to clear the $2000.
SO for a chance to double being 101 bets and the chance to blow it all being 8 bets (im giving you a chance to win 40 odd hands so you can cover your last bet) I would wipe my arse with ths method
the only way you can "theoretically" win, is if u do dollar bets at a time.. and it's not worth the time, you'd make a dollar every 5 minutes or so, that's $12/hr.. if you bet any more than 1 dollar, you are royally f*cked.. as, say 5 dollars X well, lets say 10 blacks (on a red bet) you would owe $10,240 for your next spin.. so unless you only ever bet 1 dollar a time, and make sure u show up with a few g's, you're completely screwed. casino's would be broke if this worked..

The Martingale betting system is, in fact, a system where you can win short time, but end up losing EVERYTHING at once.
Thus, it's more exact to say that it's a strategy to win a little bit when you win, but lose a lot when you lose.
I have tried Martingale myself once.. I doubled my bankroll and then lost it all. Don't try it out.
