damn they were good! few bands can really cut if live they did on this one! wow, they really outdid the studio version! I can only wonder what happened if ricky hadn't died.
You had to see this live in the 80's.... I saw it in the fox theater in atlanta. The BASS was sooo intense the whole place shook :P You just can't recreate that part. EVERYONE was dancing!! It was insane.
Kate is simply unbeliveable - a brilliant musician! So just pumps that baseline on the keys while singing very difficult vocal arrangements close to spot on all the time! ***** stars!
How's this for a fantasy: Fred & Kate have a child, in vitro if necessary, even if they desire a surrogate to carry it. Cindy raises the child since she already has a little family started & "Uncle" Keith tutors the child in drums & guitar. *That* would be an incredible kid!
Soooooo much better than the studio version. They should have recorded that entire album live. I have a bootleg concert recording including Toss That Beat and Cake along w/ Meso, and they are all so much better live than the Byrne-produced studio versions.
One of my favorite bands . Looking back I'm grateful I took the trouble to see these (new wave&punk) bands live. I saw the B52s twice once in Berkeley in 1980 and later in Mesa Az in 1983/4 Their energy still comes through today.
really good 2 hear this amazing band again, lost touch wth them when my bro swiped my one & only B52 album cosmic thing , is it my imagination or did freddy spawn from Devo ? these guys r soooo ahead of there time ,kinda slipped by mainstream culture though im glad of that ,there loss....
Realeased in early 1982, the album Mesopotamia was produced by David Byrne of Talking Heads. I remember when it came out, it was an alternative rock hit and a great 3rd album.
I was in a cool record store in Greenwich Village the first time I heard it. Already a fan of the B-52s, it hit me like a ton of bricks...a ton of pink, cosmic bricks made out of moon beams...or something. ;)
OK I'll admit this is one of the songs when people ask why I like it all I can do is shrug. It's one you either like or you don't. I like this version better than the album version though :)
B-52s and Mesopotamia 4ever and ever! I went to see them in Coney Island the other day. The girls look and sound fab. Fred does that weird Mesopotamian dance, too
before i write this i should read a book but i will say this , i love this song i wish there was a clip or vid of through that beat in the garbage can thats my fav.
52 Girls and Mesopotamia are my favorite B-52's songs too. Does anyone know if this video is going to be released on a DVD or anything like that? If the whole show was taped I'd buy the DVD of it in a heartbeat
I would of had to though too... and skemle do you mean memories of before Cindy's brother died? I miss him too. But at least the band still goes strong their new album should be out in 2007.
thanks for bringing back some good memories. I remember standing outside a record store in Ft. Worth waiting for them to open the day Meso was released. Love it as much today as I did the first day!
Amazing that such a motley assortment of characters could gel so brilliantly live.

I saw this in the hot summer of 83, as it was broadcasted LIVE late at night on German TV: Since then the band influenced me in music.
The next day i rushed to the record store and bought "Whammy" and it`s still in my shelf today.
Gorgeous Kate & Cindy, Gorgeous band!!!

1) The girls' voices are awesome.(Even today)
2) Fred is freaking cool on stage!
They stick it to the talentless hacks like Britney Spears. They have better voices, and may not be sexy to the media, but they are awesome.
